At first, the idea was to get om0 and "cancel" the Race thread with some mission that does not crash when doing so. I then had some other idea: Make sure that the race ends right before the mission starts (hold F): (onmission = 1 after that, I doubt that you can end up with om0 again, but not all hope is lost.) Almost all missions should be supported: [1:06 PM] Patrick: Afaik, the only requirement is that the mission sniffer ("""marker""") causes a fade before starting the mission. You want both fades (race-end-fade, mission-about-to-start-fade) to happen at the same time. Your time window is big for that (the race fade is 1s, IIRC - or is it 2?)

The rest of this post is just failed ideas. I have not fully tested them all, though.

  1. Enex triggers are disabled (you cannot enter buildings during races).

  2. Tuning garages: I had a look at the code that disables the tuning garage during races. With $CARMOD_DISABLED_FLAG == 1, the tuning shops almost literally do nothing, not worth testing. Btw, Driving School does not set this flag, disables the tuning garages themselves so that they do not open. You can prevent them from closing in the first place before starting Driving School by parking a car in there, though (Blantas finding).

  3. Save points I could not get them to work, yet. That was before I had the genius idea to hold F to cancel the race "menu", I do not see how that helps, though.

  4. Using properties instead of missions [4:58 PM] hobrev: oh yeah Patrick, can you buy safe houses with that race failing thing? I could not be bothered to test these fully.

Dupe Saint Mark's Bistro (x2) so that enemies get stuck inside each other. The "getting stuck" part is not 100% consistent and I have not done it a lot, so it could be anywhere from 10-90%. Test it. Better test it with the next strat already done (BP x7). Home In the Hills is unlocked.

Black Project x7 Get 6 Quarry instances (if you have duped Explosive Situation, you only need to start it twice since you get 2 instances each time you enter the mission trigger because you get 2 Quarry starter threads). Now start Black Project. Instead of enemies, you get a bunch of meat stuck inside each other. Saint Mark's is unlocked even though you complete more desert missions than necessary. I recommend saving/loading afterwards since it is free in this unoptimized category and not everything is cleaned up (mission cleanup list gets full), I don't know about weird side effects.

All Missions

  • Most likely unnecessary: You can dupe Flight School to get max wanted level 0 until Meat Business

Architectural Espionage I remember that this is rather precise. Not super hard but if you are lazy, just copy where exactly I stand at the exit, when I trigger the satchels, and when I jump:

  • You can still do Black Project x7, but you need to get rid off 4 instances to not skip Green Goo by dying with onmission1. The first death is ez, for the other three, you need to hold a call while dying. It does not say "mission failed" but that does not matter, one instance fails. Do the dying part after getting the jetpack, as you can get a wanted level again after dying - 5* inside A69.

Green Goo You can stand in front of a sprunk machine "nearby" (just stand there). It allows exiting/entering the jetpack and then you can use the Hunter to kill them all. FIAB = Fish In A Barrel TLDR If you are too lazy to read, try using fullscreen, maybe that fixes your problem, already. The rest are rather minor things unless you do something absurd like starting pause buffering half a second after skipping the cutscene.

You can fail by

  1. being too slow to hold it
  2. not getting the call

So the solutions are

  1. Hold the call as soon as possible once you get it.
  2. Make the call come in """faster""". a) Make "pause buffering" as effective as possible. b ) "Pause buffer" as soon as possible: Start early.

In depth 1) Holding asap Preparation: Bind a shift button (e.g. right shift) to "answer call". A mouse button should also work. All other buttons should not work. In the run: Once the phone rings, hold your button (I'll use shift). If the game is paused, unpause while still holding shift. Make sure to test this: Outside missions, wait until a call is about to come in, then pause buffer, then do as above (read from "Once the phone rings).

2a) Make pause buffering more effective i) Don't use filthy windower mods ;) , use fullscreen. It has had a dramatic effect for multiple people. iii) affinity / priority:

  • set gta_sa.exe priority to high (not real-time: [10:01 PM] Anti: really choppy audio and the mouse not working sometimes iirc)
  • set gta_sa.exe affinity to a core other than #0: Afaik, every process uses CPU #0 by default ** in general, set the core affinity of other processes to the cores that gta_sa.exe does not use - if you feel lazy, only do it for OBS and LiveSplit, those make a big difference
  • maybe even set it to all cores just for the dupe. Reset claims that that makes pause buffering unstable (cause a crash - or app hang?) - test it for yourself
  • for all this, remember to have prio installed ( resources -> ctrl-f for prio, read the description ) iv) overclocking Well, look into this yourself, maybe for your hardware there is software that allows temporarily overclocking your CPU using hotkeys.

2b) Pause buffer as soon as possible Background: In your browser go to some text field and start holding some letter. You will see that there is a delay between the first letter appearing and the second and onwards. That is called "repeat delay" in the screenshot above. In the run: Once you duped the mission, hold Esc, shortly after, press LMB (to account for the repeat delay). That way, you pause buffer ASAP. If you use some other button than LMB, test it, it might drop your Esc key and you have to start holding it again.

3) miscellaneous

  • Reset claims that looking towards the casino while pause buffering helped. I have tested it and did not find any effect. Maybe it does have an effect when there are a bunch of objects on the screen, though, who knows?

III and VC have instapass mega-threads - but SA is SA. :D

SA only has three known instapasses:

  • Running Dog and Puncture Wounds, both using Bloodbowl
  • Dam And Blast using Stowaway + Vigilante + Property Buying -> Dam And Blast -> mission x to cancel it.

Puncture Wounds This is the only instapass worth doing, imo.

Steps: 0) Get an om0 call like in any% (not by failing the mission, though^^, just pass it instead of failing).

  • Note that you can use the Taxi sub-mission to time your call
  1. Hold that call.
  2. Start Bloodbowl.
  3. Release the call.
  4. Die.
  5. Hold the call so that you do not have to cancel it later (?)
  6. Start Puncture Wounds.
  7. Blow up the car to fail the remaining Puncture instance. Time it to reset the camera at a convenient time.
  • I have done the IP 10-20 times without mashing to skip the intro cs (like for the Monster dupe, for example) but never softlocked - unless I waited until "mission passed" which happens ages later.
  • It seems that the time it takes for the car to blow up after exploding it varies? Needs looking into - is just a micro-optimization, anyway. A safe timing (to reset the camera at a convenient point) should be to trigger the satchel 5 seconds after the fade after the cutscene.

Routing: I'd just do this right after beating Bloodbowl in non-linear. The TL;DR version was terrible. This is a long post, admittedly unnecessarily long, but I have added one-line TL;DRs to each section (each section has an underlined header line). You can stop reading after the "Interesting Applications", stopping at my "notes".

After Nick has explained car AI, recently, I have found that the AI accuracy issue can be avoided in rare circumstances.

TL;DR: Make the game despawn your last car (wrecking it does not help).

The cause of "Car AI" is that the last vehicle you were in is not a motorcycle (->bicycles are evil, so are helis) and (this is new) it still exists. That simple.

  • The only fast way is to park it in a despawn area.
  • Wrecking the car does not work or help in any way ( Nick lied ;) ).
  • Park it in a garage (garages eat your vehicle)
  • Wait out the 3 minute timer so that it despawns.

TL;DR: To avoid "car AI" up until the Hazer garage, park your car near Cesar's friends, get out, wait for everyone to have left the car, then and only then get into the trigger. That despawns your car, disabling "Car AI".

There is a 30 meter despawn radius around the meeting with Cesar's friends. It happens after the 500ms fade that leads to the conversation with them. But if at that moment one of these things happen, the car stays:

  1. CJ is inside the car.
  2. Anyone is leaving the car, atm.
  3. The car is not inside the despawn area anymore. This is useful for OHKO, but for main categories, I doubt that it is worth it, unless your health is low.

Note that there is another huge despawn area when you enter the "second small marker" near the Hazer garage. That eats your vehicle, unless you bailed out, perhaps, as then it might leave the area.

Note how close that was, the last door was closed just before the fade ended (which is when the despawn happens). :D

It has a 200m despawn radius around the mansion. Since you abandone your car for the quicker exit, maybe it can probably fly outside that area, causing car AI. 200m is a lot, though. If you think you had it happen, post a clip on Discord, please. :)

This 7 meter despawn area is used at the start of the mission. It saves you from entering the bike, might be faster. I tried bailing out in a way that the car would stop inside the despawn area but that seems very hard to do. ^^ https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/271678111748194304/316720781218283521/unknown.png

These are my (edited) testing notes (no TL;DR for this^^):

[I have always wondered why some missions are not affected by car AI but then for some reason Green Goo is. Here is why]

  • Black Project: Always despawns: Mothership becomes player vehicle, gets destroyed.
  • House Party: Always despawns: 160m despawn area around Party house (reaches 20+ m beyond where you climb towards the spraycan).
  • Small Town Bank: Always despawns: has 100m despawn area around the bank (more exact: roughly where you spawn inside the bank)
  • Los Desperados: [covered in main part of the post] Always despawns at Hazer garage
  • Meat Business: no AI bug since your car is destroyed before the shootout and then recreated (with damages etc remembered and recreated, wtf R¤)
  • Saint Mark's: Taxi is destroyed -> AI bug ended
  • The Green Sabre: no hope: has only one clear_area that is used when you lose all weapons
  • Vertical Bird: little hope: the only despawn area at the ship is used when you get the silenced pistol at the boat.
  • Burning Desire: little hope

I have checked every mission that felt relevant. For most, I did not document results. DansGame No documentation means that there is nothing that needs to be done to avoid the AI bug or there is little hope.

  1. [in the carpark] "You were spotted killing the Valet" Video Prevention: You have to let the valet drive a bit further than when the "kill him" text appears. Trivia: [quote]I have solved it (thanks to SCRLog :)). The "Valet is in the car park" text was triggered by the Valet entering the car park. But you failed because the clothes (!) landed outside. It does not make sense that the location the clothes are put at make a difference, but that is how R¤ coded it - lazy fuckers. ;)[/quote]

    • [instantly after killing the Valet] "You are wanted" Bullshit: You can get a wanted level as soon as the Valet is dead (sensitivity_to_crime=1.0). Ergo, if you shoot your smg one bullet more after the Valet is dead and a cop is nearby, you are wanted and fail the mission. Prevention: Use a shotgun or pistol instead. Edit:
  • Reset got a WL when blowing him up with a missile, too.
  • I got a wanted level when I picked up the uniform (or right when I killed him?) after waiting until my wanted star vanished before entering the car park.

2a) [As the D.A. enters the parking space] Something blocks his way. He does not leave his car and the Valet enters it, failing the mission. Prevention: Make sure nothing blocks his way. Video More commonly, it is your car that blocks the way, so drive it away.

  1. [after parking the D.A. car in the garage] Getting a wanted level from stealing a car Bullshit: Cops can see through walls. There is a sidewalk nearby, so if a cop walks there he witnesses you stealing it. Prevention: Well, run instead. DansGame

    • [while driving the D.A.'s car] "Spotted wasting Valet" Bullshit: a Valet can "randomly" die Hypothesis: One valet drives the car you parked at the parking spot and runs over the other Potential prevention: Drive your vehicle out of the parking zone during the waiting time. If the valet enters it and gets stuck in front of his colleague, push him 90° so that he can drive of.
    • several killings Prevention: make sure that you keep dangers away in general, like confused bike cops driving on the parking location (Video)
  2. [When despawning traffic] A cop car spawning right in front of you, causing a crash -> wl. Intervention: You can try to bail before crashing, perhaps? Prevention: Try to drive in the middle of the road / on tracks / where no cars can spawn in general, it will save you quite some time. Also, try to learn from Reset's WR to despawn without car spawns right in front of you?

    • getting a wanted level in general This is not actually bullshit, but Prevention: make sure that no cop is in 14 meter radius as you do criminal stuff nobody cares about, normally. Also keep in mind that the trivial offenses like running people over can build up to a star.
  3. Some nice unsolvable 555 meme 8a) If the ZR Valet gets stuck driving to the car park, pull him out of the car (don't enter it if cops are nearby). He will take the next car to the car park, hopefully with more success. ^^

    • The D.A. never spawns Someone (I forgot who) thinks that this happens if a customer gets pissed and keeps driving around. I do not know the solution anymore. Most likely, you need to drive his car away. I suppose you should kill him, too (by entering from the passenger side holding sprint).
  4. As soon as a Valet gets stuck under a car, he dies. Fragile pieces of shit.

And another one from 100% - obsolete but for the sake of completion) - [while eating Pizza] Wasted a valet Interiors like to mess with AI coords. Demo video in Vigilante.

Context Husho owns a couple of PSP versions and it turns out that there are at least three different main.scm versions out there. Since main.scm is pretty much all that matters for instapasses, I ignore all other differences. I am aware of these regions:

  • European/German (same scm)
  • no region specified
  • Japanese
  • I do not know which version I use. It is different again.   The same probably applies to the PS2.   For Android, I am not sure if there are releases for each region. Help me out, please. ^^   Add to that that there are probably multiple versions for each region.

So I guess we should find all the versions: Some PS2 version might have a huge instapass. Mobile might have SA-style despawning. I mean it does, but for me it was too laggy on my Smartphone to be of use, that might be very different for other people with proper hardware. It also has only 9 levels of Paramedic and Vigilante (Firefighter is instapassed anyway) - that also makes it relevant.

What we need The main.scm of each version. Only that matters for instapasses - almost.

Why don't I do it?

  • I am not experienced in stealing stuff (although I also do that sometimes) - finding exact versions, in a foreign language even :D
  • I have lots of other things to do - lots and lots of hours of work (only counting GTA related stuff, ofc)
  • I would rather do those but if nobody does this then I'll have to do this, too.

1) Rapid camera movements near certain things 1a) All escalators I am only aware of the Just Business escalator. Some missions lower the friction of train tracks for non-trains for their entire duration.

If you load a save or start a new game, then the friction stays.

missions:

  • Wrong Side of The Tracks (until killing every Vago) (30% friction)
  • Snail Trail (40%)
  • End Of The Line 3 (30%)

The strat is: Save before Snail Trail(I call it the "pre-ST save"). After Snail, save(post-ST save), load the pre-ST save and start the mission, then load the post-ST save and enjoy nice track friction until End of the Line.

The tracks on the way to Export might make it worth it. It is a must-use for non-LP ILs.

We need a mod to make them since we cannot save that property.

The mod should replace some section of the RAM copy of the scm with code that creates an NRG near CJ and then restore the old code. Seems easy enough. Someone beat me to doing it. ^^

First, I'd like to focus on how much faster Monster duping actually is, so maybe someone who can actually play this game would like to time it. I don't feel like talking about the rest for now, I want to do a run. ^^ Someone press me so that I do it tomorrow morning.

The problem is that the Catalina call is unlocked by Ran Fa Li (or duped Mountain Cloud Boys - not worth it anyways). So we need to use the Zero call or the The Truth call to dupe High Jack (or Monster). Zero is too slow, I'll leave it at that for now.

The The Truth call is only relevant if you dupe High Jack, for Monster, using the Zero call should be faster, anyways.

About the The Truth call If you are curious as to how we would keep the The Truth call until High Jack - I can't be bothered trying to give you a good explanation, just the usual confusing one you are used from me, I guess... It is not my intention that you completely understand this by now, only that it is an option. So how do you keep the The Truth call? By cancelling it every time it comes up. You can use shooting if you are in a hands-free call, getting teleported into a car in a cutscene, or jumping into the water. See the video.

The big problem is the two Toreno calls, for them you can only stand next to the water and keep cancelling the The Truth call until you get the Toreno call... :( These are my notes. It seems quite consistent to me when you do your tests without quitting and restarting your game, but from starting a game and loading the save, it likes to softlock for me. I did not do many attempts but it seems like 1/3 to me... But maybe I am just bad at cutscene skipping and it is fine? You need to skip the cs insanely fast (use two or even more buttons). Sprint, Shoot, Enter and NumPad-Enter work.

I mentioned one instance getting stuck in the other thread. I don't know what causes it but since trying it again a few weeks ago, I never had that problem in the ~5 times I played to the end.

I tried an alternative setup where I hang up the phone during the cutscene and then skip the cutscene with the right timing. If you time that frame-perfectly, it has the same effect as it has for Mew (intro cutscene during the tutorial cutscene), but it can also softlock. Feels not worth it to me. ^^

The text box disappears during Learning to Fly, afaik (Edit:confirmed). If you dupe Learning to Fly, you also get a text box that does not disappear and you get rid off that by starting Flight School itself again after passing it or using Bike School.
