I believe an estimate was made that a run would have a minimum of ~25 minutes of total cutscenes that are required for any%. However, that was a pretty old one so it may be different now

Dang, hopefully you can get it properly verified now. Honestly I've never heard of this issue, but it could have just been a one-time issue with a moderator, it should be resolved quickly.

What do you mean by "on the re-load"? are you talking about resetting the game from the Wii pause screen? (Also I would just like to mention, if you have the option then joining the SPM discord linked on the leaderboards will make it much easier to get questions answered as soon as you need by a variety of great runners)

SMB isn't done with time save, and it's both 2D and a good deal older. I doubt we're as close in time to reaching our limits as it seems. And when we do, well, we move to other categories and games.

Very nice chapter 1! This will be tough to beat

Recording from separate devices is perfectly acceptable, the only requirement is that the footage is watchable and consistent so it can be properly verified, and it needs the game audio as well. On your other question, the timer doesn’t have to be accurate. It just helps with knowing roughly how the run went, your run will be properly and precisely retimed by mods after submission.

If your runs are still in the high 20s (like mine) you probably don’t have to worry about save and continue. In 16 star it really doesn’t lose that much time until you get some really fast runs going. Also I’m pretty sure all save state use is banned

I was super hyped to speedrun any% and I quickly realized why I couldn't make the glitch work. Super sad, but I'll still go for IL runs and maybe all wonder seeds

I plan on beginning any% runs as soon as I finish my YouTube series on the game. Anything major that's been discovered so far?

Yeah, 16 star is definitely a better option for any beginners.

Emulators are perfectly fine within certain perameters, but it has to be one of the good ones. Certain emulators aren't allowed from what I know, so make sure you're using something like project64.

Thanks, the run ended up going really well and the games were surprisingly fast.

I'm going to be doing a massive 3D Mario Marathon starting tomorrow and I was curious if anyone has any tips for just general speed in the galaxy games, since I feel like those will take the longest.

Yes, it's entirely 3D. There are 2D images and textures used for a few things, but generally you are playing in a 3D world with full 3D movement. If you take a look at the game files, you can clearly see that it's made up of 3D objects and not 2D ones.

I do understand why you might have been confused though, since around that time there were '3D' games that weren't actually 3D. Take Super Mario RPG for example, It looks like you can run around 3D and can move back and forth and all that, but In reality it's just clever programming mixed with carefully layered images and sprites. That's not a true 3D game. However, SM64 is most certainly a true 3D game.

I think that would count as any other emulator, but you might want to get some advice from a moderator of the game.

Just make sure the full screen is visible if you can, and have a camera that won't break down or lag a lot. As long as you've got all that, everything should be good. Oh yeah, and of course make sure your game audio is hearable in the video.

Using a camera pointed at the screen is defidently the best alternative, that's how I had to do my first run.

I've been wondering, why do we need our runs to be somewhere on the internet like twitch or YouTube? Would it really be so hard to make it possible to just make a way to give them a video file?

I'm not sure, but I know that on Mariokart 8 deluxe a digital copy has faster loading times than physical so it may be the same for Odyssey.
