Any tips on how to improve my PB?

Well, since people were suggesting, I posted my first ever PB video. I honestly feel like I could be better. Any tips?

P.S. I had to use my iPhone as a timer, so it’s probably not 7:20 sharp. Correct me if I’m wrong.

  1. The best place to grab the powerups are at the beginning of 1-1, and beginning of 1-2. This will save time over the route you did.
  2. At 1:46, you tried to jump off the lip of the pipe. It's possible and easier to just jump over the plant, and not losing powerups will save a lot of time. At 5:00, you can also jump over that plant.
  3. In 8-1, you grabbed the star at 3:27. It's faster to just not grab the star, and either wait for the plants to go down, or just shoot them with fireballs. But if you're more comfortable with the star, you can keep getting it for now.
  4. On a few occasions, you waited for enemies or were careful with them, even though you had fire. At 5:10, you could have shot that plant, and you wouldn't have lost the powerup. I'd recommend getting familiar with fire, as it would greatly help you with this game.

Good job with this run though, and good luck with improving. P.S. Next time if you can, angle the camera so that the whole game can be seen. There are some places like at 2:53 when we can't see mario.

I have a tutorial on all of the "tricks" for the game - https://www.speedrun.com/smb1/thread/uz8f3 - also a video showing 100% safe strategies for a run that ends in a time of 5:18
