Comparing it (like i always do lol) to sotn, we allow all consoles and emulator even, however they are all condensed in one leaderboard so if someone decides to run on the slower versions, they just have to deal with the fact that they wont be at the top of the board, you can however filter it yourself if you want to see only runs of a certain console, people dont mind, that fact. Only difference is the sega saturn version because it is actually a different game with different controls and added content.

As packsciences mentioned, it IS a room inside the game, this is how the game displays a wall without a texture, kinda weird thats true but engine wise this is not considered oob.

I dont fucking know anymore, source engine is too stupid by now. I understand that other games (even one i run) use pause buffering since forever but they are all timed as they should. But what do i know...

In hl2 maxam got shit for using pauses during loads, afterwards it was changed to engine ticks with pauses in livesplit.

Well its the "easiest" version. I stopped doing it a long time ago because for me the abh version was way easier, not sure if i even showed that in the tutorial series because most people think its harder...

That timestamp shows how i used to do everything, requires middlefinger scrolling though.

(remove the - in https, had to do it or it would've embedded the video without timestamp) h-ttps://youtu.be/AEtDUME9NZ0?list=PLKN-0BTRxpIh8AFXH5LSKULo-Edcc2mme&t=161

Another thing to pay attention to is, those 2 screens that got linked only tell half the truth, if you just do what the second one looks like it wont work either.

You have to start out with how the first one looks and THEN move over to how the second one looks. If you go too far you messed it up, if you are too close to the portal you messed it up, if you are too far away you messed it up. Its all just a feeling thing like people mentioned.

I know you mentioned you are using unpack but make 100% sure you actually started the unpack and not steam version by accident. :^)

Changes or additions on 9/2/2015

Timing: You are allowed to use the official save (resource section) to skip the vault. You have to set livesplit to start at 53.01 seconds if you use the save.

Proof: All runs HAVE to be submitted with some sort of proof in form of a video or demos. In case of suspicion demos can be requested by the mods. Demos including the vault.dem HAVE to be submitted if you decide to use the save to skip the vault, videos are not sufficient. As a result of the save implementation screenshots are no longer a valid proof and will get rejected (as they should've always been...).

This topic is to easily see and track rule changes and similar things.

Should you find any missing information that NEEDS to be in there or a missing command that was previously allowed please notify a active moderator. This is NOT the place to discuss if something should or should not be allowed.

Since inbounds and oob are similar i just took the inbounds ones since they needed more info in them. Should there be something different for oob i will point it out seperately.

_

Goal: Beat the game without having your camera or placed portals leave the map and without scripts, macros or cheats. Beat the game in one sitting, quicksaves and quickloads are allowed. Should you peek oob by accident and DID profit from it - you have to load the last save. _

Version: For portal runs the Source Unpack is used which can be found in the resource section, you can do runs on the latest steampipe but note that not all tricks will be usable (mainly saveglitch) _

Timing: Timing begins when the crosshair appears and ends when it disappears after Glados' death. Timing is done using Ingametime - Livesplit is highly recommended due to its auto-start/stop and load removal. You are allowed to use the official save (resource section) to skip the vault. You have to set livesplit to start at 53.01 seconds if you use the save. _

Proof: All runs HAVE to be submitted with some sort of proof in form of a video or demos. In case of suspicion demos can be requested by the mods. Videos have to show the full run from start to finish. Demos can automatically be recorded with Maxxuss' demo plugin (see resources). Demos including the vault.dem HAVE to be submitted if you decide to use the save to skip the vault, videos are not sufficient. As a result of the save implementation screenshots are no longer a valid proof and will get rejected (as they should've always been...). _

Allowed commands/bindings: -Any bind that is accessible from the menu -sv_player_funnel_into_portals binding (checkbox in the menu) -toggle_duck binding (default controller bind) -cl_showpos 1 -binds for sensitivity -save/load on one key binding -custom named save binds -demo plugin related binds _

If you are unsure about a command, bind or other rule please ask via the forum.

So i guess this went through? Tried counting as accurate as possible on both threads taking into account everyone with a run in the last 6 months even including people on the "dont allow it" side that are more known (i know i said i hate that shit but w/e), excluding me and fnzzy, excluding people who are not capable of making a clear comment.

19 vs 5 for it. If i miss counted, missed ¤something¤ let me know, otherwise i will change the rules accordingly today as planned.

Prelude isnt the same as portal, no one here has any control over it, well no one active at least, only series mods. I guess your best bet is asking blizik or someone directly.

I dont know about that, people who really were into getting good 00/01's already did reset a lot there anyway, at least i did, maybe im an exception. But yea i thought about biiwix point, however i still think its not a really big advantage, i doubt we will see more sub 2's as cubethrow isnt really the only reason for that to happen. Not many people are capable of getting one in the first place.

thread: Portal

Forgot to mention, if this gets through demos will become a natural requirement as proof. Not that those are too hard to make...

thread: Portal

Seems to be a bit of a different case but shows that other games do stuff like this too as long as the option for it is there. This does not affect anything of the run as in rng or something.

Hey, right now you can only show or hide rules as a hard value.

It would be nice for games that require larger rules sections to have an option that allows to auto-hide the rules after a certain number of visits if logged in (maybe after the first, second or third visit?) to make sure new people see the rules and existing runners dont get annoyed by walls of text.

Maybe it would also be nice to have that auto reset when the rules get edited so that new rules or changes to them will be obvious even to existing runners.

We just rewrote the rules section for portal no oob and oob. Legacy etc will follow since they require a bit more work.

So far no changes to actual rules were made, we just wrote them more clear and switched from blacklisting commands to whitelisting them as it is easier and clearer to maintain.

Should you find any missing information that NEEDS to be in there or a missing command that was previously allowed please make a post in this thread.

Yes, i know its a wall of text, we might just set the default to hidden after a while.

This is NOT the place to discuss if something should or should not be allowed as, once again, this isnt CHANGING the rules - just REWRITING and CLARIFYING them.

"Note: This is only a rewritten rule section switched to whitelisting things instead of blacklisting, no actual changes yet, should i have forgotten a already allowed and used command (no, timescale is not allowed...) please contact an active moderator (fnzzy, xeiz, ???)

PackSciences: No real idea what would make a category misc or not to be honest. My reasoning for having it stay misc is that the current main categories have a lot of submissions compared to legacy but thats my reasoning, i might be alone with that and thats fine so whatever people think is right.

thread: Portal
XeiZ8 years ago

This should be another discussion entirely, right now screenshots of splits are okay but that wouldnt proof anything about following the actual rules of a category with such heavy rules. But again dont start discussing that here please or this will get nowhere.
