I know several emulator players are asking if a camera on the keyboard, or input display will suffice instead. Be prepared for plenty of questions :-)
I assume old runs won’t be removed that don’t meet these guidelines (like no video for times higher than 5:21, or no input file for emulator runs, or old approved runs with now unapproved emulators)?
I enjoy playing on OpenEmu for sure. It's a great emulator.
Just know that your times will be slower than if someone played the game the exact same way you did, because it runs at 60fps instead of 60.0988139fps thanks to VSync (I haven't found a way to disable the VSync, so seems like we're stuck with it).
Correct @Darpey
OpenEmu apparently runs at 60fps instead of 60.0988... fps so despite me having a pattern that was 4:59.989 on console, it's a 5:00.4xx on OpenEmu because of the frame rate difference.
So that's why I'm switching away from my mac and to my PC starting next week, so I can get away from OpenEmu
Awesome good to know! Thanks Blazit :-)
So the difference to me is that it looks like the buzzy beetle is one pixel further to the left when it is 100% good judges (or, one pixel further to the right when 50/50 bad judges)
Does that apply to all the enemies? I'm specifically thinking about the three goomba part where we use a pipe jump and then the koopa bounce to despawn a goomba, because otherwise it's a 1 frame jump.
I came across an old interview video with darbian, Andrewg, and kosmic where they believed the 1 frame window to jump the three goombas was 2 frames but felt like 1 frame, and then kosmic said he was recently told it's 1 frame. Then they thought maybe it depended on the judges. (Here's the video with debate is at the 34:00 min mark: )
I'm wondering, is that the case? Because now if we stomp the beetle and see bad judges, then if it is the case that the goomba is also one pixel farther to the right on bad judges like the beetle is, that opens up that goomba jump to being 2 frames again (which may still be harder than the pipe jump and despawn, but at least gives people options on what they prefer).
Just wanted to thank you for this find blazit ... I use it every 8-1!
I like it because the no-jump second bump has a lot of things going for it:
- It requires one fewer input (no A press for the jump)
- It's super consistent (for me at least, once you get the hang of it), I think because there's simpler inputs
- It gives you a nice quick bump that sets the elevator up pretty high for the 3rd bump
- When I used the position hack, it always gave me a 9 or 10 bump. I never got an 8 or 7 out of like 50 times. Now, obviously that's not proof, but even if it's a super high frequency that's good. It allows for a pretty deep pipe entry using 3 bump method, as you can see in the video with one or two of the pipe entries.
