if you’re using an emulator use savestates to practice parts where you die at, and Kosmic has really good tutorials about certain levels and the whole game in general

This is Kosmic's tutorial:

Or you can use this tutorial by Darbian:

dont go for all the strats right at the beginning of running, just try to get a better PB then incorporate strats as you get better, the only strat you need to do to get a sub 5 minute time is 4-2 WW and not die, but are you playing on emulator, NES, switch, or what are you playing on?

with emulator and switch(especially emulator) it's very easy to practice a certain section(on emulator) or level(on switch) but on NES you have to get a mod or plugin to have savestates.

Yeah I'd recommend not really following Kosmic's sub 5 tutorial yet because it's better just to hack away at the times than when you get like 5:00 or something go for sub 5 if you know what I mean.

If you are on emulator use this practice rom, it is very helpful. https://github.com/pellsson/smb

A tip is if you cant use save states or pellson for practice if I do in world 8 I practice world 8 by after I die in a random world you can press a plus start at the same time to practice or whatever

If you think you die too much, maybe do not follow sub 5 tutorials right now. Learn safer strats, don't go for difficult jumps and do not hesitate to slow down in certain areas. There are some good tutorials about those safe strats in the guide/ressources section, you should check those first then improve your tiles by adding one or two new faster tricks at a time
