Fast Accel violates Newtons 3rd Law.

Seriously, Even with TAS, I can not get fast accel to do anything except lose 1 frame.

Though once, I got it to save a game second in 8-4 first room. I believed in it!

I attempted to practice doing it, in 1-1. Looking to get a higher R into the underground. That never works, even with TAS!!

What is it I'm doing wrong?

send a video of your tas inputs

Thanks for the reply, Perhaps easier if someone can send a video of the correct inputs? I'm following what I read here.

Fast Accel I'm following the no L+R. I'm sure someone will come by who has a video already uploaded that shows what I need to do.

This is an old tas of mine from 2017 that has L+R fast accel

This is my human theory tas thats also quite old, using no L+R at 4:13

Maybe I got too caught up in the "press nothing" and should just hold B the whole time? I feel like I tried that but maybe I didn't?

Still wanted to complain about it.

yeah you can hold b the whole time and it's much easier.

United States

You in fact need to push something in the frame between the left press and the R+A input. It can be B (the most natural choice), up, down, or even select...there just has to be something there because otherwise Mario will retain some of the leftward speed from the left press and you'll get a bad accel. (Don't ask me why this is the case.)

Andorra

Now the question is, A perfect fast accel done at the beginning of level 1-1. How many frames should it save? I tried TAS very briefly got R07, Usually get R06.

A better question, Where is the best place to practice a fast accel?

( I plan to practice doing it with a controller.)

i dont think theres a "best place" to practice fast accel, pretty much anywhere with flat ground would be good

if you mean what rom then use the pellsson practice rom and turn on subpixel display, if your accel is perfect and you're on flat ground you should get 1/9 flashing

I think the difference between your R07s and R06s is the down press to enter the pipe. I know that happens in 8-4 (first room) so it might just be that. Also, R06 can be achieved without accel, so its was probably just bad. I think R07 or R09 was the limit, so you're ok with that. I usually find that when TASsing with a pipe entry like that, I already have the feel for it and is easier to do RTA.

why is this called "Fast Accel violates Newton's Third Law"

"His third law states that for every action (force) in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction." i guess he never got the R07s (opposite of losing a frame is gaining a frame)

United States

It should be R08 with a perfect fast accel (R09 if you add a second backwards jump to get to running speed faster)

Maybe some were bad accel, some were perfect accel and bad down press, and none got perfect accel + down press. Also I don't think he did tas accel so R08 would've maxed out. Also, on the topic of fast accels, how does UFA (underground fast accel) work? Why do you do a full jump sometimes? How does it gain speed?

Andorra

@Miggle13 Yes I was thinking R06 was max with no accel. Is R08 max perfect human accel?I shouldn't have mentioned TAS, I really never use it. I agree with what you said though.Best I have managed so far, no TAS is saving 1 frame? I think. It's a bit hard to tell exactly.

In a completely unrelated note, An idea for a ROM hack. Didn't want to make another thread.

Ghost Mario to run against, Originally I thought it would be neat if the ghosts were different WRs so you can visually see how you keep up to them.

Of course it would be nice to record your own, so you can visually race against it.

Maybe it already exists?

@EvaTheWingdate I think you need to ask Newton on that one lol
