I was speedrunning smb1 any% on emulator. In 4-2 to do the wrong warp, you need approximately 3 back bumps, right? Well... i did NONE and still got the wrong warp. someone help me
here's a video
because it's wayyyyyyyy slower. Mario accelerates faster backwards, so backward bumps give more x-pos as well as almost instantly giving Mario running speed again
The way it works is that when you hit a wall, the screen stops scrolling for a set amount of time. So the idea is to move as far as possible into the level during that time, to increase your x position as much as possible. Facing backwards gives you the most acceleration and thus the most x position gain from each bump, but it's not impossible with forwards acceleration. You would need more bumps, however, so it would be slower overall.
Og speedrunners when these skips were discovered at some point used to rely on foward bump. Then that one guy came in did nearly the entire game with Backward Jumps and somewhat proved it to be faster. Sadly its not a discovery but hey its alway nice to learn something new isn’t it?
Any% (NTSC) runs below 4:57.000 must now fulfill additional requirements in order to be verified.
- The run's full session must be included in the submission description.
- For emulator runs below 4:57.000, some form of input display must be visible for the duration of the run. A hand-cam or input
