Do you think humans are capable of performing FPG backwards? So that mario is facing left when the glitch is done? Or is that not humanly possible ATM?
I'm pretty sure mario automatically faces right if he's touching the flagpole. However I believe he could be facing left up to that point. (somebody correct me if I'm wrong)
StickeredNolmy has done a backwards FPG (not as in allstars backwards fpg) you can find it on his YouTube channel (linked with his src profile)
A TAS has never done it in the original super mario bros. So I doubt humans can do it...
The only way this is possible (without fpg, for now) is to scroll the screen enough when you go over the flagpole so that mario doesnt have enough space to even look right
What do you mean backwards FPG? Going above the flagpole and doing a FPG in the other side? Or facing left on the FPG? If it's the third option if you jump a frame later on flagpole base Mario faces backwards on the jump, my first FPG ever was like that.
"So that mario faces left when the glitch is done?" That's what I mean.
If you're still confused, I mean when he clips into the block, and sits on the block on the right side of the flagpole, but without going over the flagpole.
Oh, you mean after Mario lets off the flagpole still faces left and does a fast accel like thing?
Yeah, it's the same thing as normal FPG, but when mario clips into the pole and grabs the flag, he's on the other side.
That is possible in the All Stars version of SMB1. Its the mix of Fast pole and FPG. But Fast pole is not possible in NES SMB1 (at least we don't know how to do it). I don't know if it would have the same effect, probably no.
When you hit a powerup block on the Japanese all stars version of SMB1, Mario will go instantly to the right side of the flagpole when he touches it. When you mix that with FPG, he does a fast FPG. On the allstars version of SMB2J, you can do a backwards jump to the flagpole, and the same effect will happen, without the need of hitting a power up block.
Btw, when you do a Slow FPG in SMB1 NES (when you do pole inputs, but jump 1 frame after you should, Mario does a backwards jump and still gets FPG), He doesn't get warped to the other side of the flagpole, so it is not possible to do that on the NES version (or if it is, we just don't know how), unless there's another version like the FDS or PAL that allows it to be done.
It'd be pretty amazing to see that it would be possible to snap to the right side of the flagpole instantly, and we could be just missing something. It's not like we've totally dissected every line of code in this game, there could still be more out there.
Effective immediately, any submissions using the SNES9x emulator will not be verified. The SMB1 mod team has concerns about its integrity due to its ability to overclock and remove lag frames, which may not be easily detectable. Additionally, we request that all BizHawk submissions avoid using the S
