Animal Crossing on the GameCube has a feature where you can get secret NES games and play them via some built in GameCube emulator. One of the games you can get is Super Mario Bros. Is that legal for runs? Lol

I would think so because it's an official release but don't run it until a moderator has approved it

if it isnt in the list of the rules, it isnt allowed, p sure tho it would be super cool lol, but yea that sounds very likely to work quite different to the original emulator in a variety of aspects to be accepted (i would bet it would be rather slower but yea)

We don't currently allow the Animal Crossing version of Super Mario Bros. for leaderboard submissions, primarily because that version of the game does not have any restrictions in place to disable pressing left and right simultaneously.

Maybe it could be a separate leaderboard or something.

this is something that should probably be on the category extensions rather than the main leader board

it's the same game and like 2 people will run it. There's no point in adding it to the extensions

I'm sure there's some gecko code you could force players to use so left+right is disabled. I know barely anyone would run it, but I think it's a pretty funny idea and probably not very hard to moderate

To be honest you probably don't even need to use a gecko code. With how optimized and popular this game is, any use of L+R in a speedrun would get detected instantly.

Additionally, the NES emulator in Animal Crossing is one of, if not the most accurate NES emulator released by Nintendo to date. It's more accurate than the NES Classic and Switch Online versions, both of which are currently allowed. There's no excuse as to why the Animal Crossing version shouldn't be allowed.

its an official release so it should be allowed, even if L+R still works on the animal crossing release

Effective immediately, any submissions using the SNES9x emulator will not be verified. The SMB1 mod team has concerns about its integrity due to its ability to overclock and remove lag frames, which may not be easily detectable. Additionally, we request that all BizHawk submissions avoid using the S
