We actually don't know if the G&W works the same way an NES does. Also, you probably have a computer which you can play emulators on. Also (#2), you can find NES's + games for fairly cheap if you know where to search. I saw some selling for 20 bucks with games
^^ That's probably a scam. Original Nintendos go for more $100-$150 USD.
Original NES's actually go for more like $50-$70 average on eBay, if you're buying an NES for over $100 it isn't worth it and you should consider looking somewhere else
Look at my original game and watch post here to understand why they will not let it in
Basically it can not be used because it can be modified(at least that is what I gathered)
just because you personally believe they are the same does not verify that the versions are identical. comparing 370 on the in-game timer is no use since you can get 370 on any speed/framerate, and that's only 1-1.
i don't know the details, but i assure you if the mods are suspicious of it, it's something that will have to be looked into. they know more about the game than any of us, that's why they're mods.
just try playing on a different platform, i would go with emulator.
If you haven't yet try Mesen or FCEUX. I've heard they're really good, especially FCEUX for TASing.
Also, we did discuss a while back (like months ago iirc) about making it a separate category. I think this could be much fun to mess around with but it was only an idea and until more is found out about the G & W nothing is for certain. I'd say not to get your hopes up, but I'm not a mod or anything so I can't say that someone has proposed the idea or anything.
I know Mesen is not allowed. Anyone who has read the rules would know this. I was saying that Mesen is good for TASing as I've heard, not to run with it. Yes I should've been more clear about that, and thanks for reminding me, but again my first point. Thanks again anyway :)
if you need tutorials on how to play the game check the guides section and resources section on the smb1 leaderboard page
@SpeedIn continue practising on G&W if you like but until further notice it's very unlikely to get it's own category. try Nestopia or FCEUX, they are valid emus for leaderboards.
you aren't going to be a god with emulator on your first few attempts. every platform has something different about it that you'll have to get used to. it would be best to play on a wired keyboard and low response time monitor so you can minimize input delay, if that's an issue for you.
emu is allowed and G&W currently is not. if you'd like to have your runs verified i would suggest playing and practising on emu since it's free and you can get easier access to different tools such as practise roms.
whenever you're ready for runs just be sure to switch to an accepted platform. have fun and gl with your future runs :3
Re: Mesen We ended up banning the emulator and you can read about it in this thread: https://www.speedrun.com/smb1/thread/5koox
Re: Game & Watch The ROM is not the same and there are some differences. Infinite lives, faster pause buffering are a couple.
Yeah as Roopert said the G & W is different so that's why we were talking about the new category, now that I can remember properly.
there is no point in adding a category that no one will run. Also, the game itself is pretty much the same
We talked about it. Not that we will. Read my other comments above to see what I said @WolfAttacK. I only think it would be cool to mess around with, not that there should be a separate category. Also, people would run it. As you see above, SpeedIn wanted to. And I'm sure that other people would. But I don't know. I don't really care.
Effective immediately, any submissions using the SNES9x emulator will not be verified. The SMB1 mod team has concerns about its integrity due to its ability to overclock and remove lag frames, which may not be easily detectable. Additionally, we request that all BizHawk submissions avoid using the S
