Running VC steam version from Ramdisk

I didn't think running VC off an SSD or HDD makes a difference, but a bit of timing done by Ractrot and Vegeto suggests it does. Now, I don't have an SSD, so I tried Ramdisk (google it, you can get a free version). The problem is, steam version of VC doesn't let you just copy and paste the game directory, the game won't start. So what you do is, make a Ramdisk, copy the game folder to it, rename the VC folder in steamapps/common, start cmd, navigate to your steamapps/common dir, and type in "mklink /J "Grand Theft Auto Vice City" (your Ramdisk drive letter):"Grand Theft Auto Vice City"". This will let you start the game as normal from steam, but it will be loaded completely into RAM. Usually the loading screens are almost instantaneous, but one thing I had trouble with is remote buying Printworks. The loading screen that popped up every time I hit F3 was long and it was messing with my timing. After doing it from Ramdisk, I can get the remote buy pretty much instantly.

Holy cow.. Really! If you have something to do with GTA VC speedrunning, this is a must ! Loading times get cut so hard, experienced a lot of good stuff in only 10 minutes testing :D It's not super easy to understand, but damn this is good! Kreygasm

Alright, but now, just to make sure, are my settings saved in Ramdisk if I close it again? Not sure if I have to save something so I can load it at every start up of the PC?^^

Oh well, but thanks! :)

so running VC on an SSD is worth it? And people were making fun of me for bringing it up

South Georgia

not worth it lenny. This is for people with bad harddrives.

Germany

Not bad harddrivers.. average harddrivers. try it out and see for yourself, but saying it's not worth it is just wrong.

VC is small lol, I don't care if I waste space on my SSD, my SSD is literally empty
