Hey everyone!

This board used to have no moderator actually for the longest time. I run the Game Boy version, and was set to one here after the board had no moderator. It used to have some confusing categories with very arbitrary goals - some of which made no sense (25 levels, 50 levels, 75 levels, "All Levels" and Any%).

I believe the way the boards were setup in the past was to create categories for every time you see "credits", but, this game was and is very unpopular and no one ran it anyway. At the time, there was no runs for "Any%", "25 levels", "75 Levels". Then, Nintendo decided to play necromancer and brought it back from the dead for Switch online and it's seen a little bit of activity.

All the previous categories had no rules at all, and, if you check Sutte Hakun as a series, had categories that also weren't exactly unified. I since deleted "25 Levels", "Any%", and "75 Levels", and added some basic timing rules as there was nothing established. I chose timing at the time for the legacy Japanese runners that previously had submitted runs.

Traditionally also, the previous categories in other games were sequential. 50 levels meant 50 levels in a row (1-50). All stages meant all stages (usually 90-100, minus bonus sections) and bonus levels had their own category, like an extra mode.

Unique routing happened and I verified some runs I honestly shouldn't have trying to get the board in order. 50 levels should be 50 in a row (1, 2, 3, 4, 5...) but people have been routing it to pick 50 levels total not respecting the sequential order. What do people prefer?

I personally would not add another category for 50 Levels, just change the rules to reflect the community preference. Thanks!

Hey, this release date totally crept up on me and I wasn't around much on SRC the last week.

For now, the boards are sub-separated into the 3 difficulty modes offered, and, characters are also separated (and are listed as a variable you can select under Any%).

If anything is found in the future where the characters play or time very differently than each other to render one non-competitive, I'll separate the boards into two main categories instead: "Any% - Cedric" and "Any% - Orchid."

Rules are super simple. No turbo, and, timing begins on character select / ends on loss of control.

Anyone need anything else let me know!

Hey everyone!

It's always been heavily implied (but not specifically written) that starting runs from a savestate was not allowed. I've messaged many random runners asking for people to start runs from complete resets. As of June 10th, 2024, runs starting from a savestate will now be automatically rejected whether or not G gun dropped in the first stage.

I'll accept the ones still in queue right now as I don't think anyone cheated starting from a savestate, but moving forward any run that starts with a savestate will be rejected. Again, I don't think anyone is cheating, but it's entirely possible off savestates to always start and force G gun drops in stage 1. This is now prohibited in the rules and explicitly stated so instead of just being "implied" as a thing not to do like in every other game on SRC.

Thanks!

Hey all.

My girlfriend and I have been playing this a lot recently, and kind of a long shot, but maybe someone here knows since finding information on the internet about the SNES port in particular is a bit rough.

Is there a specific way to spawn them?

I read elsewhere it was basically depending on dipswitch settings a 1/256 or 1/2048 chance (depending if it was set to "easy" or "hard' mode) on official arcade hardware.

Any idea if it's just that simple and a 1/256 chance as the SNES port defaults to "easy"?

Thanks!

Survival mode is really fun and I was really surprised to see there was never a category added for it.

Hey there.

Is there a way to remove an entry on a leaderboard (as redundant) if two people end up switching between player 1 and player 2?

An example is actually myself and my girlfriend:

https://www.speedrun.com/keeper?h=Co-op-Low&x=zdnxrpn2-6njq4mjl.mln0380q

We played this online a long time ago, then recently broke the record locally, but in that process (1P and 2P literally don't matter in this game) swapped sides compared to when we did it online.

So now 1P and 2P show up as two different runs and there doesn't seem to be a way to categorize us as the same run without switching sides next time. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks.

I recently played this and am thinking about running it.

Does this game (or the series in general) have a way to practice individual screens? This is actually my first fan game / game in general of this franchise. I really like the mixture of Warioware.

Anyway! Just curious.

I wouldn't mind actually practicing certain screens, but if I don't have that luxury I'll just keep playing and learning over time!

Thank you.

Hey all.

I made a new tutorial (and put it under guides) for Batman today, but I hope in general it helps out a new generation of runners trying to learn this game. It's good for probably <10:10 times, which in my opinion is very strong, and once the foundation is laid for new runners to be around that time, I really hope it encourages more to try for that elusive <10 time.

You can find the tutorial here:

If anyone has any questions feel free to message me on Twitch or to join the Batman Discord!

Happy Batcember. ;D

I created a TAS for this game a few days ago. As of this post, the current RTA record is 3:16 with 1 death. The TAS came in at 2:49 and 0 deaths (only saving 2s on the death I took in the record.) Re-posting this in guides. :)

Some of these room are pretty tight, but there's definitely time to save/pull from in the run if you tried to replicate strats. Hope it helps out someone!

A loooong time ago, someone tried to submit a co-op run that prompted a change in the rules. Sadly, this game barely sees co-op submissions, but in the future, I would like to slightly change one of the rules.

Back then, the runner started a co-op run solo (killed off one of the turtles) then beat the game solo, and tried to submit that as a co-op run. I rejected that run back then, and change the rules to state that each turtle needs to survive until the end of the game.

I think I would like to change the rules going forward: one of the turtles can die at the end at Shredder, but, have to be present on every stage. So as long as each turtle survives each stage, but, one dies at the end, the run is no longer invalid. This still prevents people from running a co-op category solo, but, at the same time, doesn't punish people at the very end who unfortunately die on Shredder (and hopefully, opens up co-op a bit more on this board.)

What does everyone think?

Hey all. :)

In the last few days, I went through all the runs here and made a variable that shows whether or not a run ended in the infamous Joker glitch.

If you're unaware of what the Joker glitch is, you can understand it here:

But basically, there are some frames where if the Joker is killed on, it immediately skips his death animation and saves about 4 seconds. I added the the variable because it was neat to see at a glance how many runs ended in the glitch, but also what the best non-glitch times are.

And before anyone asks "why isn't the board separate if there's a glitch?" it's because I think, just that. The glitch can be gotten accidentally, and there's really no other glitches in Batman that the speedrun uses to save time. It's just the Joker glitch, of course, right at the end of the run.

@mikethev run is a funny example. Right now the leaderboard, it's 81st place, but he got the glitch accidentally, and if you filter by that, his run becomes 9th best. xD It would create all kinds of strange leaderboards if people got it accidentally, so for now, it's just something nice to see on the side.

Feel free to just leave "Joker Glitch" blank and one of the mods will adjust it if you don't understand!

Thanks for reading. :)

Hey all, on a board I recently created for a new game, the developer himself actually made some little trophies for 1st to 3rd place.

I added them yesterday, and if you click on anyone's individual page, you can see them (they're like gold/silver/bronze coins):

https://www.speedrun.com/user/junkyard_dave

But on the main SRC page, it shows the default trophies:

https://www.speedrun.com/beard_blade

I waited a day thinking maybe it was a site/cache thing and it would update, but it seems no matter when I upload them, they stay the same on the main SRC page. Is this functionality broken? I know it exists on for example, Mega Man X2 (custom 1st/2nd/third place trophies):

https://www.speedrun.com/mmx2

Thanks.

So close to sub 10! <10 in this game is a hard achievement.

Good luck to you two!

It says to me trying to duplicate the request via the tool I made one day ago in the old thread:

"You cannot submit a moderation request because you must have email authentication turned on and your account must be at least 1 month old. To turn on email authentication, visit your account Settings."

I've been the moderator on several games for a long time now and it's always been enabled. Is this the option it's talking about, here?

If so, it's again enabled.

Hello everyone. :)

This little board has seen a bit of activity lately, and when I created it I really didn't expect tons of people to run it. I think, furthermore though, the activity it has seen is starting to make some of the categories very competitive to the point frame counting (from my side) will be necessary soon. In the past, the final timing was when the box appears, but this was unclear and just when the box literally appeared.

So I think there's two options (and I'll go back and retroactively adjust all the times and also write that into the rules):

  1. When the box appears stating you met a population goal, on the first frame, or -
  2. When the box finishes drawing on the last frame.

Does anyone have a preference as to where to split?

I would like to hear from everyone before deciding. Thanks!

I know he flees on the 4th turn if you didn't do enough damage, but does that mean you have 1 extra turn and he flees at the END of his fourth turn? Does he always flee at the beginning of the fourth turn?

Is there a way to for example slow him, if he does flee at the beginning, and get extra turns in?

How's the 4th turn work exactly?

I've always just assumed you have only 3 turns to kill him and he immediately runs on the beginning of the fourth, but I honestly don't know for sure.

Thanks. :)
