Hi all,
Curious why we need a 1cc category when runs with deaths and continues will inevitably be slower than 1P runs? FWIW, the World Record Holder of 1P did not submit for the 1CC category...
Looks like the Twitch vod got deleted that is under the Guides. Here is what appears to be the Youtube version.
Hi there,
Can we please have emulator runs default as displaying for the game? I see in my personal record that I'm on there, and I can see it if I filter emulator runs in, but I think nowadays, there are enough quality emulators that the board should display those approved runs. I can't think of any other board that doesn't blend them unless there are extenuating circumstances. Thank you!
Just a notice that I'm removing 3 inactive mods. Nothing at all to do with anything other than their inactivity and we have 6 mods, which we do not need and can lead to confusion when there are questions. Mods being removed are b3n4dryl, koffingrockz, KowalLazy. Cheers to them for their previous efforts!
Please read the rules before any new runs are submitted. This includes requesting input display and a few other things. Good luck!
Hey all,
Can we set the release date back to 2021? When I tried to resubmit my demo runs to remove twitch vods and replace them with youtube clips, it said I could not because my submission date for the demo runs was earlier than the release date. I realize the full version was released in 2023, but there's no harm in putting it back to 2021. Otherwise, if I replace them and put today as the submission date, it will ruin the world record progression for the demo runs. Thanks!
Long overdue, but adding Beardstrength as a mod. One of the best framecounters I know. Big-20 will keep us busy with submissions.
I'm making some updates to the Board as the new mod:
-
Adding a Demo version category for NES.
-
Removing SNES as a category until a run is submitted.
-
Adding standard rules for all games.
Locking thread.
We updated the rules yesterday to include ban of turbo and showing controller inputs for emulators. There's a mashing section that allows an advantage for turbo and it wasn't discovered until the other day. Runs should be evaluated closely at the A+B mashing portion to determine if it seems to be done manually or with turbo. Otherwise, have fun!
Hi all,
I will be re-timing the board. Most times should be minimally impacted. This is mainly to isolate runs with milliseconds to sub-4:50. Start Frame will be slightly more specific: the frame that the first stage is visible. Last frame will remain as is: the first frame of the sceen being black after the final boss. I will make a mod note in any impacted runs. This has been discussed with and approved by the other mod, Nescardinality.
Hey Joe!
We'll need a new category... called Any%... because this run happened. The existing category should be called Any% (No Major Glitches). This category may get ripped apart if anyone cares to dig.
Hi all,
Over the next week or so, I will be re-timing the boards. The start and end frame remain exactly the same. I will simply be instating millisecond requirements for each category. I will not be re-timing obsolete runs, as there are many. If a run's time is changed, I will make a mod note in the run's notes.
Milliseconds will be required for runs under these thresholds below. Milliseconds will be removed for runs longer than these thresholds.
100% Easy: sub-6
Any% Easy: sub-5:10
100% Normal: sub-6:30
Any% Normal: sub-6
100% Difficult: sub-9:30
Any% Difficult: sub-8:30
Beanball: sub-0:40
Individual Levels: milliseconds always required
The WR definitely looks like it uses turbo. And I know freehippie is a good, legit dude, so he can speak for himself. There are no rules against turbo in the category rules. I just don't want to put myself at a disadvantage of trying to mash and just getting frustrated.
Hi all,
After spending another few hours back with this game to try and improve my time, I found it impossible to do better than the 3:24.750, which is a frame slower than my submitted time of 3:24.733. I based my submitted time on first frame being after pressing start and it is transitioning to the "Beginner Round 1" screen (there is a weird transition frame in between that is a fully grey screen with some text at the bottom). I based my last frame on seeing the red flag at the end (completely, as this will be important to note for Carter's run). This red flag showing occurs approximately 6 frames, or 100 milliseconds, from after the screen stops scrolling. Curious what I was missing that the World Record runs were doing, I watched all three runs and did framecounts. Besides the fact that everyone self-reported 7xx milliseconds, I think the framecounting is inconsistent.
This is what I found after mirroring my framecounting against the other runs:
Me - Framecount when the stage 3 screen stops scrolling: 3:24.633, and after the flag shows: 3:24.733.
Aaron2U2 - Aaron has a version of the Rom that shows "G1150" on the title screen instead of the LJN licensing, but it doesn't seem to impact game performance as far as I can tell. In any event, Framecount when the stage 3 screen stops scrolling: 3:24.650, and after the flag shows: 3:24.750.
Vesper - Somewes is being annoying and the twitch vod puts a "view next in x seconds" screen that blocks the flag showing, but the screen stops scrolling at 3:24.667, which means flag would show at 3:24.767.
Carter - Might be the recording rate, or something to do with console, or 30fps per second, or something, but the frames fade differently for Carter's run. Nonetheless, Framecount when the stage 3 screen stops scrolling: 3:24.667, and on every frame, the flag starts to fade in, but given what we know about the 6 frames for the flag to fully display, after the flag shows: 3:24.767.
Therefore, assuming that final frame should be based upon when the flag is fully showing on the post (6 frames after the screen stops scrolling), I believe the actual standings to be as follows:
-
Zarc0nis: 3:24.733
-
Aaron2u2: 3:24.750
T3) Carter: 3:24.767
T3) Vespervidya: 3:24.767
Thank you for reviewing this!
Hi all,
I'm planning to run all of the Zapper games for the NES. I've already done two ("Barker Bill's Trick Shooting" and "Gotcha! The Sport!".) with the emulator Mesen 0.0.6. Mesen displays your crosshairs target on the screen so you know exactly where the player is pointing and shooting. It's clear in my experience so far that there are no advantages to mouse point-and-click, so I'm asking that emulator (at least those with visible crosshairs) be unbanned so that we can post speedrun times as well. If video proof of the size of the game on the PC screen is required also, then that is fine with me. You can either require webcam proof or a streamlabs scene that shows the full display of the monitor where the game is being played, either right before or after the run. Thanks for the consideration!
Hi all,
I've added milliseconds for Win% since the runs on the board are so tight, the new WR is a new second barrier, and there's no reason not to have the runs be timed to milliseconds. All existing runs will be re-timed.
Hi Ikki community,
I keep getting this guy twice in stage 3, and he sticks to me for about 4-5 seconds. I notice that the top 3 runners get a much slower guy that does not stick to you. What is the trick? Is there a Start Screen manipulation? I can't compete with this guy always getting me! Thanks!
would love to play it
See title. Two more games to choose from. Oh, the joy!
Hi all,
I've recently taken over mod responsibilities for this game. I've always had some concern with the wording of the rules, so I'm adding some clarity, particularly around the start and end frames. This will impact previously submitted times and I will be retiming the board. See notes below.
On 10/12/23, I added that a reset or power cycle is required for runs effective that date.
Milliseconds in Runs: For Hard, milliseconds will only be required for runs under 14 minutes. For Easy, milliseconds will only be required for runs under 3:10. All times will be updated accordingly in this process.
Start Frame: Will be changed from "starts the frame hit "start game"" to "the first frame of fadeout after pressing Start". This is a clear, objective signal that the game has begun.
End Frame: Will be changed from "ends the frame you lose control after destroying final boss" to "the first frame of fadeout after defeating the final boss". This is my biggest concern because if someone stands still, you cannot tell when they lose control. The first frame of fadeout is clear and objective.
This change in End Frame will ultimately impact a considerable number of top runs with milliseconds submitted. It appears to be around 100 milliseconds. However, I think it will set things right and make the timing more objective for me and future mods.
With this said, a recent submission of 2:59 came in, though it was actually a 2:59.9xx, which would be second to the current 2:59 WR. I reviewed both times under my planned frame count criteria. The new time is 3:00.067, and the current WR held by St4nzzz is 3:00.400. An accurate frame count with the old rules likely would've timed it around 3:00.300. The new submitted time was going to be the new WR anyway, but this will provide objective verification.
With all this said, in the coming week, I'll retime all 84 active and obsolete times on the board and make a comment in each applicable submission note mentioning the new rule and revised time with milliseconds, then will update the actual run time if needed.
