For what it's worth, go ahead and add the run under a Misc. category on the game. I was against it because at the time it violated the rules put in place at the start of this thread, however those rules were overturned later on due to the plain stupidity of them. This was all discussed in depth in the Discord in the #leaderboards channel.
At that time, all you had to do was ask again to have the category added and it would have most likely been added. As long as it's not compared to PS2 I don't care if it is there or not anymore. It make's no difference to me if it exists under a Misc. category for BC PS3 Any%. But again, that is my opinion, just one runner.
And that forum from 11 months ago that Punchy referenced is what started this discussion. In fact, that forum post doesn't even contain a request, it's just a simple question. That question was answered pretty clearly at the time and it was decided to not allow the console on the LBs at that time for a couple reasons - primarily of which is stated at the end of the thread "There isn't enough interest in it to allow it or do anything about it". It wasn't so much he was requesting it, it was more of an inquiry on it's legality for the LBs. He was not ignored then, he has never been ignored in his requests.
It wasn't until months later (6 months later as you can see by the 5 month old OP on this thread) that he made a formal request (it should be noted he didn't actually request it then either, he just went ahead and submitted his run with the console listed as PS2 and never told anyone it was actually on a PS3, it wasn't until during a close inspection by a moderator that they noticed the difference in performance over PS2). At that time a discussion was held over a week or so and the decision was changed to allow it under certain conditions. Then a month or so later, it was decided even those limitations were arbitrary and were thrown out too (like I mentioned before and like was mentioned early on in this thread)
Im not reading long paragraphs, but I have NEVER and will NEVER ban or remove someone from the discord because of my personal feelings for them. (bolded for emphasis, not anger).
There are a few of people in the discord who I dislike (and at least one of them is aware of that dislike) and I have never once disrespected them in the discord, deleted any of their messages or treated them with any kind of malice. They have continued to post as if nothing is wrong between us. The discord is a public place and my job as a moderator of the discord is to keep spam/rude/problematic posts out of it - aka, keep it a civilized place where everyone is welcome to speak their minds. Ive had differing opinions than people in various discussion in the discord as well, but I never silenced them or abused my moderation powers on them (I've never treated with hostility either, believe it or not despite how head the debates had become).
This is not meant to be a "you should have known" kind of post. This is so that you, or anyone else for that matter, knows that just because I personally dislike somebody, it doesn't mean I would ever go so far as to remove them from a public, community discord. I keep my personal opinions to personal outlets (my twitter, forums, etc.) and I keep my personal opinions out of the KH Discord since that is not a personal place of mine. (that sentence sucks but it's 3am)
In short, don't feel terrified to speak there because of me. The owner of that discord would never let me get away with abusing moderation powers anyway, so if I did do something like that a quick message to them would end my time there. You are not the first person I dislike nor will you be the last. In fact, that discord probably has a slew of people (mods included) who dislike non-mods and vice versa and nobody has ever been removed or treated badly because of it. At the end of the day, all of us in there, mods and non-mods, are mature enough to keep personal arguments and feelings away for the sake of a unified community.
I thought it was obvious that my personal feelings expressed on these forums or my twitter account were separate from what happens in the discord but clearly I was wrong and it wasn't as clear as I had thought. So please, talk there and raise concerns there, it's what it's there for. All of us mods know better than to let our personal feelings control conversations in there and none of use have ever lashed out (nor will we ever).
One last note on that topic, I present you with some notes:
- Punchy, you have a total of 2 posts in the discord, both coming on May 19th, 2016, and not a single post prior to or after that. 2 posts in almost an entire year of you being in the discord,
That is long before this thread's and my personal opinion of you's existence (it is also long before I got mod which was about 4-6 months ago).
-
2 other people in this thread voicing disagreement with the current rules have never posted in the Discord (1 of them was never a member at all).
-
2 people disagreeing with the current rules post semi regularly with maybe a post or two a week for probably half a year or so.
So, I find it hard to believe I'm the reason for anyone's silence prior to about 36 hours ago since 2 people post without any "fear" of me (and have been doing so before and after I got mod) and 3 people never posted to begin with. Not sure how my presence has been preventing anyone from talking in the Discord at all, in fact it seems that the people who have issues with something just don't raise them in the Discord in the first place.
But I guess I can't assume anything, all I can do is clarify these things.
A rejected run and an obsolete run are two different things. One, the rejected run, was not accepted for a reason (usually not following a rule) while the other, an obsoleted run, is a run that was once accepted but later beaten with a faster time by that runner. You can't combine the two, that makes no sense.
You can view all of your own rejected runs on your pending actions page if that is what you're looking for, but I cant think of a reason why having them visible to everyone on your profile page is a good idea
Moderators are added to games either by:
- requesting a new game (you get modded for any games you request)
- by being added by existing moderators for the game
In other words, mods are only added on an "as needed" basis. If you wish to be a mod of a game, ask the existing moderators of the game if they are in need of some assistance and they will take it from there.
If a moderator has been inactive for over 3+ weeks and you have already attempted to contact them with issues or pending verification for your runs, you can request to be made a moderator of a game using this thread http://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/63nr7 (please note the OP of that thread, it is for last resort cases, you cannot just use that thread to get mod on any game you want).
For many of the categories you've listed, they are added by default because of the way variables work. For example, on PS3, people have done runs of BBS Standard categories. So this means that when we add PS4 as a variable, it auto inherits all of the other variables associated with that game. So yes, for games where we have a variable for different consoles, it auto inherits the difficulty variables which means that it will have empty runs. This is not something, to my knowledge, we can change. We can't make variables hidden by default until runs are submitted when they inherited like this.
Succinct, that strawpoll was voted on by the mods, not the general community. We only had 9 at that time. Understand something before criticizing it.
Finally, no category was added willy nilly. When a new category is added, it is discussed in discord/twitter among the runners of the game and the LB mods themselves. A category gets added when it has enough interest and enough people say they want it added. There is no random adding of them it happens with a process. The thing about BC PS3 is that nobody cares about it. No runners of the games have any interest in having it on the LBs because there is no interest in it being run. Not even the only runner of these games on a BC PS3 has returned with any interest in having it on the LBs.
A final point - the LB mods admitted on multiple occasions after this thread's creation that the two run rule was stupid and wouldn't be a consideration. So, that isn't preventing anything. And for what it's worth, I had 1J 100% added two days ago b/c Im doing a run tomorrow. Like I said, it's a process.
(And yes, what neraigo said, all of that too)
That's probably best asked to the moderators of whichever game(s) you're looking to run.
The usual rule of thumb though is that modifying a console's hardware in any way to get better performance out of it is banned, but modifying it just to bypass region locking (like using Swap Magic on a PS2) is allowed.
That's a question best asked in the game's forums and/or to the moderators of the game. They'll be able to clarify any rule questions you may have as well as offer assistance with any other game specific questions regarding the run you might have.
i wait 1 day so if you chagne my name you gonna see britney spears and katy perry front of you
I don't understand this, but if you're upset about not having your name changed after a day, have patience.
This thread is checked once a week on average.
Yeah it's really a game by game basis.
For example, the aforementioned NES Classic - it runs slower than a real NES so it was handled by adding NES Classic as a platform for the games present on it, then when submitting a run for the game, that platform was chosen instead of a regular NES.
For a game Im a part of, the Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 Collection for PS4 (a collection of games original released on the PS3), it was kept under the same game as the PS3 versions but had the consoles split via tabs on the LBs due to loading times being upwards of an hour faster in some cases on the PS4 so we didn't want to compare the two platforms on the same LB.
There is no "right way" to do, it's mostly just whatever the moderators and community members decide is the approach they like best or that works best for them.
More than likely, the games will just get another platform or two added to them to show that it's done on a console with the collection instead of on the original game.
As for how those will be handled on the LBs, that's up to the mods of the games to decide. For what it's worth, if these games are anything like the NES Classic remasters, then they will run slower than the original games and will just be kept on the same, already existing LBs with a new platform.
If you're curious for more information than that, I'd recommend talking to the mods of the game to see how they want to handle it.
snes_fanatic, you can't just use this thread to get mod because "you want to moderate hacks".
This is a last resort thread for when you need a run verified or something to be done with a game and you can't contact any of the mods because they've been MIA for 3+ weeks. That game has a single run so it's more than likely that the moderator isn't in need of any assistance on the game. If you have a run pending for the game, you can contact them on their social media links to get it resolved.
If you're so inclined, you can also reach out to the moderator and ask them to give you mod, but it's unlikely they'll add you unless there is a huge need for it.
Ive never used it myself, so unfortunately I don't know much about the specifics of it, but if it's similar to other split programs, just right click on it after running it and if there is something like "edit splits" or something like that in order to make splits you can use. I would link you to LivesplitOne which is a browser version of Livesplit that works just like the regular application version, but one of the libraries they use recently got compromised and it's not safe to use right now (shoutouts to super early beta releases).
Also, a quick clarification, auto splitting is different than a split program. Auto splitting is something that requires a plugin to read memory values of a game and then automatically generate a split for you when a memory value is achieved. These are most common for PC games since the tools to do that exist easily. For something like SMB, if you're on console you cannot have an auto splitter. It might be possible on emu but I don't think that any tools for it exist yet. So everything you do will have to be manually splitting by hitting a key.
Most people use either OBS or XSplit to record and/or stream their runs. You can either use it to livestream to Twtich, Beam, etc. or you can locally record the run which will save it to an .mp4 file on your computer. Then you can upload that to YouTube.
Most games will either always require video proof or require it past a certain time threshold, so getting in the habit of recording all of your runs will make the submission and verification process much easier. I'd also check out the rules for the game to make sure they don't have any extra requirements and contact the mods of the game if you have any questions for them about submitting runs.
Llanfair will work on Mac, just need to have the Java runtime environment installed
You're going to want to ask that in the forums for the game and not in the site wide ones. The mods will be able to give you an answer there.
Bumping this hoping MicroTransactions will see it lol.
Is this the project you're using for the ps2sdk https://github.com/ps2dev ? I don't want to invest time trying to compile a toolset if its not the correct project.
Yeah, this is known and is how we get up there on the PS4 version since the 60 FPS makes it harder to time a jump attack.
You can also climb up there from the boxes in the corner (some people find that easier).
Still though, nice job finding it on your own, always good to look around and see what there is to find in areas.
