And not 24 hours after I said that, https://www.twitch.tv/almolicious has begun to route it.
@Gyoo It's not too obvious. I'm sure a 'Mark All as Read' button has been suggested before.
Some games have identical titles. It may not do much internally, but for searching or API related things it can be annoying. Here what I found:
Bionic Commando http://www.speedrun.com/bc88 http://www.speedrun.com/bc09
Bonk's Adventure http://www.speedrun.com/bonksadventure http://www.speedrun.com/gbbonk1
Bonk's Revenge http://www.speedrun.com/bonksrevenge http://www.speedrun.com/gbbonk2
Spelunker http://www.speedrun.com/spelunkernes http://www.speedrun.com/spelunkercpu
Strider http://www.speedrun.com/stridernes http://www.speedrun.com/strider1
There's also a significant amount of links with same URLs, just with different capitalization. Making it so it's not case sensitive would probably be a good idea. Here's what I found: http://paste2.org/vcthzcas
Not as important but I made a list of which games have nothing selected for platform: http://paste2.org/1ZhA93La
I haven't tried to contact the game/series mods yet, but will when I can.
@FurryWulfz I'm wondering if that'll get me. A couple SDA elites do recognize my name and my viewer count growth has been large (by comparison to others), though I'm only averaging ~13 viewers per stream so far. The series was really popular back in the day, which should help.
Looks like http://www.twitch.tv/ninetigerr plans on running this at SGDQ. If it gets in it'll be a useful reference. Here's his recent speedrun that he hasn't posted here:
¤The game people say they might run but never will¤
Kappa
Just so followed popular games don't consume the front page, could there be a notification setting to limit updates to only when there's a change in the top 5? It's kind of annoying to see a bunch of 20th+ runs push out the less popular games, but I don't want to limit it to 1st place either.
A faster means to organize followed games would be nice. I have mine on custom so my two main series are on the top and chronological, with the remaining alphabetical. Each time I follow a new game I mundanely move them up so it's in the correct spot. Drag and drop to a new position would streamline it.
To reduce the number of people asking for moderator of a game/series because they're waiting for their run to be approved, Full Mods+ can be notified when a run has been waiting 2 weeks or longer. They can either approve it themselves or attempt to contact the game moderator(s). It shouldn't cause too much controversy since game mods can remove a run that was incorrectly approved, and full mods+ wouldn't approve a run of a game they have no knowledge of.
When a thread is replied to, then deleted, the subforum stays marked as 'New' even if everything else is cleared. The recently deleted 'Flaws in speedrunning' thread was the case for the Speedrunning subforum. @Gyoo replied, then deleted the thread. Check the thread through his profile marked it as read, but otherwise most other users wouldn't be able to.
I do believe viewing an even newer post that comes later removes the 'new', so it's not a major bug.
Small bug. I can't take a screenshot in my current situation:
http://www.speedrun.com/forum?show=all Expand Other The game Warframe has '1298' threads when it has 4.
There's quite a few series and games with inaccurate topic/reply counts. That's the extreme one.
It might seem like nuthugging, but zfg is one of the best examples of a good speedrunner.
¤ Stays true to his game and his runs. He's not called the King of Ocarina of Time for nothing. He's been working on that game for well over 5 years now and continues to improve a category that, up until recently, hasn't had any real competition. This isn't saying running more games is bad, he just doesn't get side-tracked for too long with other casual games; he always comes back to OoT. ¤ Despite his popularity, he doesn't try to milk his viewers for all their worth. This isn't a speedrunner exclusive problem; most streamers who get popular eventually change their stream culture to encourage donations and subscriptions to the point where some will start calling them a sellout unironically. He does thank people who subscribe on stream but doesn't have it take away from the game. His main reason to stream is to have a chat while he's playing and isn't too concerned with the money, it's just a small benefit. ¤ Has a sense of humor. While he doesn't actually laugh very often on stream he can shittalk as well as anyone. One time he called chat out for saying they liked his run the most at a marathon and followed up with "Okay you cocksuckers what was you favorite run other than mine?" Naturally, chat erupted. ¤ He doesn't get upset when he fails. He rarely gets noticeably upset when he loses a run. He can occasionally say "I'm mad" but he's still chill about it. Good control over temper is a great trait to have, especially over competition, which speedrunning is. ¤ Proactive in the speedrunning community and supportive of other runners. Given his popularity and longevity on Speed Demos Archive, he's considered one of the elite. While many of the elite have huge egos, he doesn't go bossing people around with his veterency. He talks about the games he runs in their forums and helps out those who are wanting to learn. He also raids smaller streamers with his large viewer count (though sometimes it can be the same people over and over).
He can sometimes humblebrag but it tends to get chat riled up in a humorous way. He's someone I aspire to be.
For specific games, a top tier player is generally someone who has spent countless hours on a game and has a very high position on said game's leaderboard. The more popular a game is, the more competitive it (usually) is, so the top players tends to be the ones who have grinded the game for a very long time.
Popularity plays a minor role, but it's just for recognition.
At least then they're aware of which series can be made.
Reasonably, some of the runners could check emulator accuracy to see if there's any (unintended) advantages. If there aren't any then I wouldn't see the point in banning emulator.
Could there be tags regarding similar categories? So we know what games have 100%, Glitchless, Low%, Middle Category, New Game+, etc.
Not sure how it'd be properly implemented though; category titles alone wouldn't work very well.
I just use MPC-HC to manually check the times in videos. Ctrl+Arrow lets you frame step, and Ctrl+G let's you see the timestamp. For fixed framerate videos, you can subtract the difference of the start and end and divide by the framerate to get the total seconds; otherwise just get the difference between the timestamps provided.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance takes really precise movement.
In my experience, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 has times where you do serious juggling between taskforces where even one slip can end the run.
I got into it after being with the community for about 2 or so years. Someone asked me when I was going to stream which motivated me to finally start (though it may not have been the game he wanted). I hope to do more soon.
Could the 'mod/romhack' games have a technical series similar to 'Other'? They don't appear under series at all in All Games.
