There doesn't appear to be any comprehensive list of games/series whose not (allowed) on this site. There are a few I've noticed.
These games do not allow their leaderboards to be copied: • Super Metroid • Donkey Kong Country 1-3 • Halo 1-5 + Reach • Super Mario RPG • Super Star Wars 1-3?
These games DO allow their leaderboards to be copied: • The Legend of Zelda series • Mega Man series (discussed in another thread)
There's probably more I haven't noticed. If you know of one be sure to mention it here.
Right now if you submit a run, it always defaults to the day ahead of the current day. If you're honest and set it to the current day, you usually won't appear on the frontpage because the 'future' runs are on the top. That, and slow moderators can prevent someone from appearing on the frontpage even if they submit immediately after a PB. Maybe have the frontpage (and unfollowed games that appear) display most recently approved runs that were recorded in the past 7 days.
Hope that makes sense. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Depending on how organized you want the site, there could be an option for Year and Month for release. Some games in a series get more than one release a year and go out of order. /cnc is an example: The Covert Operations and Firestorm should be before Red Alert and Red Alert 2, respectively. It wouldn't need to be a requirement, especially if the information is unavailable; any month left blank can be treated as 00. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– A setting to display what games you follow under Info would be kind of neat. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– If a game is only on one platform and region (or the leaderboards don't care for region), have an option for moderators to hide the Platform column. It would help make room for variables. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– An option for users to override certain display settings for leaderboards such as always display/hide rules, emulator runs shown/hidden/only, and show/hide empty time columns. Otherwise these can be worked around with a local script. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Options for themes on how the background is displayed: Centered, Tiled, Fitted, Filled, Stretched. User setting to disable moving/animated back/foregrounds, mostly for phones and potato PCs. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Some kind of measure for how active a game is; maybe based on the number of runs submitted in the past X days. Popularity shows the number of runners for a game but doesn't show if there's people still running said game. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– If we have a 4th place icon we may as well have 5th one too. It's sort of awkward looking to see an even number of 'trophy' icons. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– A cancel button when editing a post. Right now to cancel you have to refresh the page. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– A European/PAL name option makes more sense than Japanese. There could be an option in settings that allows you to change which is displayed, which defaults to which region you live in. The Japanese names will be of more use once the site has translation options.
Speaking of translations, if you want to be more completionist, have American and European name entries always appear with a 'show more' button to display individual countries names (like Japan, France, Germany, Australia, etc) –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Not in the near future but maybe in the long term: Marking games that you may run in the future, to signify to others possible interest in the game, and to keep track of what you want to run too. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– This is what I meant by alignment as I mentioned before:
Left is what it is now, while right is what I have in mind. When there's more significant figures, especially with milliseconds, it can make it slightly harder to read. Aligning the hours/minutes/seconds/ms with each other looks nicer and is easier to read in order. This may be a bit difficult with font widths. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– As for millisecond ordering, here's what I was thinking:
If a digit is provided, we assume it's true, whereas if it's missing, it prioritizes times that do have it; we shouldn't make assumptions and should treat it as the lowest number (essentially as 'A' instead of '9'). Like with the above this may be difficult with font widths, internal calculations, and even API.
IMO for single-segment full campaign runs, the version should stay they same. Would there be loading of pre-saved missions or selected through the menus?
Unless you're referring to individual campaigns for All Campaigns, which then it just becomes schematics. Arguably you're not really running the same game anymore by changing versions. It'd be as if you change NTSC and PAL cartridges midrun to beat a different portion of the game.
@trunk_slamchest If you have tried to contact him, then your request is valid. The 3 week requirement is there to deter people from being impatient and making sure they've tried to contact the mods before jumping to their position. Once an admin gets on I'm sure you'll replace him.
I wasn't trying to come off as hostile; there's been an awful lot of requests with people not willing to wait. I get being frustrated when your run has been a long time, I've had that problem before too.
The minimum time before anyone should even post here is 3 weeks. This is a last resort thread for a reason. However, if that is true and trunk_slamchest has at least made an attempt to contact him, then he'll probably replace him.
@trunk_slamchest Have you tried contacting GrandTheftWalrus? This thread is meant as a last resort.
That's up to the mods to decide if there should be milliseconds. Seeing how there is a difference between the top two times by less than a second, they probably should add it.
They may have to check the videos frame-by-frame to be sure of the timing.
@Garl_Memory That is a common problem with contacting people over Twitch. There's an option to disable the spam box for people who aren't flooded with PMs constantly.
On my PB/WR run of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, I had a moment in Mission 11 that nearly killed an incredible run. You have to have at least 10 Harriers (jets) to destroy the enemy Nuke Silo, and on my way to take it out 2 of 11 got shot down. It still pulled through when one of the Harriers kamikaze'd the silo, doing just enough damage to still destroy it. It was so beautiful.
Here's the run I'm referring to: http://www.speedrun.com/run/8m7wx29z
Oh god they're coming in swarms. Check each main forum.
It's been requested a lot of times. It's not a top priority for them ATM.
Would probably be a good idea to put "(LAST RESORT ONLY)" in the title of this thread.
Depends on the game. Some games have 'Time without Loading' whiles others don't. If the game you're running does, then you can exclude them from your total time.
I do not suggest splicing your video to exclude load times or it could come under scrutiny.
A between one "like 'New fullgame top 5 run in followed game'"
I'm not entirely sure what you're after. Do you mean only having top 5 runs in followed games shown at the top on the front page or an extra notification type "between" 'New fullgame run in followed game' and 'New fullgame WR in followed game', so something like 'New fullgame top 5 run in followed game'?
That's about my line of thinking, yeah.
@TheStachemallow I wasn't dismissing you, it can just seem odd when someone requests moderator for a game they don't run. If coming on a lot and knowing the game was the only requirements then there'd be a lot more more mods in general.
@TheStachemallow Usually the wait limit before asking is 3 weeks. They don't have any means of contact, so that'll expire soon. Nor do they have any runs submitted...at all. But I also checked your profile and didn't see any broadcasts of the game; trying to set rules for something that hasn't even been ran is frowned upon.
The most qualified user to moderate it is http://www.speedrun.com/user/Almo -- He's recently been routing the game out and comes on quite often.
