When you're in the Edit-Profile page and select the name-color WHITE, it's "invisible" when selected since it's the text "White" with white color on white background (Maybe because of custom template). It looks like this then:

Hi and welcome to speedrun.com first of all :) Glad you show interest in doing runs. Let's get to the points:

 1. Usually these platform issues are solved either by a special category by keeping all platforms in one game, or separating each platform into it's own game. You can see examples of it on the Harry Potter Series, where each platform is an own game: http://www.speedrun.com/harrypotter I can't find a good example of the opposite case, but that exists as well. Just like the most stuff regarding games, it's community driven. That means that the community/mods are responsible for the game and not the site-admins, so if you have questions about a game either ask it in the game's forum or contact an game's moderator.

 2. This is also community driven, but in 99% they either deny it or do not allow it for WRs. Ask the game's moderators for that.

 3. Practice and patience. And try not to burn out :P IMO you should not solely run games and take your time off from it as well. Bascially, stay open-minded.

 4. When you have to start the timer depends on the game's rules. Some when the console is started, others when the character/new game is selected or something completely different.

You should ask that in the Game's forum instead, since this Forum is based about Speedrunning in general and not about a specific Game.

I have seen already and answered allot of discussions and questions about auto-splitters, so let me make it quick:

Technically you could make an autosplitter for web-games; Practically you can't. An auto-splitter works in the sense that it checks the Devices RAM/Files and checks for certain parts/sections of it to be set to a certain range or exact value. For example an Item-ID in a Inventory of the Game (in a PKMN for example) or for money values. Since these are usually saved in the RAM or Files (very uncommon but does happen) you have to search for where and how they are saved (Using a Program like CheatEngine for example).

Now Web-Games are different. Since they don't run by itself, since they run INSIDE of an Browser, it can be very difficult to find these values IF they are even present. The reason why I say if they are even present is simply the fact, that usually web-games store it's data SERVER side, so all of your values are received from the Server. With that you don't have access to it in any form and you'll only see the result in the Game.

Well, just take a look into SRL's IRC and ask there. There're always quite some people in there, so shouldn't be too hard to find someone to race (obviously heavily depends on which game).

@Kasumi This like Brapchu pointed out, speedrun.com is only referring to the videos and "only" gives us the leaderboards and forums. To do something like that you need a quite huge server which will process that, since encoding a video again is thousands of times more resource heavy then generating a website/view. Then you also need to have some kind of security checks, since otherwise some bots or idiots spam the uploading and cause like 1000 videos to be rendered again. There're tons of flaws in that and it's also not a good practice to use YT as a server again, since the content of the videos is not speedrun.com's, it's YOURS. Maybe you do some stupid talk in there which could result in problems for speedrun.com again etc. And all videos would be listed to be by speedrun.com instead of you so to make that work out again is just ... no.

BTW, your suggestions for editors/encoders is ... why? You need to run these things automatically on the server, otherwise you'd need to have extra people using their pc to encode the video again which upload it again. And no, you surely don't run such a server on windows, so you would at least have to look for a linux Encoder.

@DarkerStix They? Experienced in UPLOADING Videos? What kind of experience do you need for that anyways? DansGame

I'd say you can play it and specify it as GCN, since it's the GCN Version. The Problem is more in the different Games, since each has an other rule-set/opinion/mods for that. You should ask that in the game's forum or contact a mod of the game directly and ask him/her.

 1. It's not installing OBS, it's installing the LiveSplit Plugin TO OBS, not the other way around.
 2. Why do you need to install it? I use LiveSplit as well and don't need it at all. Just use a window-capture of the LiveSplit window and you're fine. Just start your splits before you start to stream/preview, or you have to re-load the window-capture since it doesn't do an auto-detect for LiveSplit.
 3. Take a look at livesplit's FAQ -> http://www.livesplit.org/faq/ The Questions at the end are about OBS. Here're all the Issues from LiveSplit, maybe you find a solution there: https://github.com/LiveSplit/LiveSplit/issues

There's even a Contact entry in the menu which will open up an email to Pac.

Most people use multible capture-cards, one for each kable/connection type (HDMI, Component, Composite, ...). I use a quite weird setup to convert Component/Composite to HDMI and only use one capture card then.

Before that, I wanted to check if there's a capture-card which DOES feature all of them and found one ... literally only one xD Maybe you can find more, but that's what I found: Black Magic - Intensity Shuttle http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003WSQTWU

Why a new server again? Allot of games already have a own server and there's a speedrun.com server (See in the top menu, the "..."? Click on it -> Discord).

Not saying it's bad or anything, just why a new one again?

It can have various reasons:

 • Your Internet Connection isn't able to load the stream in your streamed quality. FIX: Lower the quality (Bitrate, Resolution, Framerate, ...)
 • Your ISP somehow screwed something up which may lead to bad download-rate at that moment. FIX: Contact ISP if it happens more often.
 • Twitch had some problems with their servers - Because of big events like GDQ/ESA, ESL, LCS, ...) or technical issues. FIX: Wait till Twitch fixes it or change Region/Server.
 • Your PC can't handle that much at once which may lead your stream not to load properly. FIX: Kill unneeded processes, Stop other downloads, Upgrade PC

Asking the Developer where it is, is useless. They don't know either (usually) since the Engine/Game/OS handles that and the dev doesn't have to say at which point he want's to store stuff.

Q2:

Allot of people use emulators to check what the RAM looks like since allot of emulators have that feature. When something is changing inside the game, it's always stored in the RAM, so you gotta take a look there. Of course, there's allot of stuff in there, such as all information about your character (health, speed, states, etc.), your enemies (position, health, etc.) and in sometimes games sprites (graphics) as well.

By observing the RAM on ever change (For example getting hit by an enemy 300 times on purpose), you can check which position your needed information is stored. Good example for that would be PKMN-Inventories. When you mess around with it enough, you notice that the values in there are way off from what they should be and may result in Integer-Overflows. When that happens, usually all the magic starts to begin ;)

Now, for newer games that's quite hard. Since new games are running on current tech platforms, you can't look at the RAM that easily anymore. Consoles don't allow you to run custom code that easily (So you can take a look at the RAM) and on the PC it's hard/nearly impossible to ONLY show the RAM-Section the game is using. Everything is mixed and way more complex now, so there's no practical way (at least on my stand of information) to get the data from the RAM. So the once thing you can do is mostly trial and error. Allot.

As I was going through some random users in the forums, I noticed that when a user has a coop-run with allot of people, it'll mess up the layout really bad. Example: http://puu.sh/pXiYq/595fb4de8e.png

Information-Page -> Mod of part is also ... meh http://puu.sh/pXlJG/485aa17ddd.jpg

Since ALLOT of stuff can be fixed with simple CSS-Changes, could you maybe put the CSS-File on github and allow people to fork it and check for updates? Would also fill the account with new repos Kappa
