Depends on what you think of overall leaderboard integrity and accuracy. If the community cares a lot about having every time listed on the boards for accuracy, list them all, no exceptions. If they don't really care that much and only really care about the top times, remove runs at request. I know the Sonic Adventure 2 community cares a lot about board integrity (directed at Drakodan) and will list all known times for the game, mostly pulled from SRL.

tl;dr: community's choice imo, I don't think this should be captured site-wide.

The boards for Star Fox 64's miscellaneous categories have been moved! This was a change made on June 17, 2017, with the agreement of the entire moderation team, save MHFsilver, who is not currently an active mod for the game, and had support from the rest of the community. The main reason for the change was that Star Fox 64 does not really have any "good" miscellaneous categories, and the categories that we do have don't have enough variance to justify a board on this website (especially Kill Slippy, which had more tied times than unique times).

This forum post is for grievances and suggestions. If anyone has any major reasons for why the boards should be on here, post with the reason why they should be moved back. If you have any suggestions for categories that should be added to the miscellaneous boards, feel free to suggest them with a ruleset here. Generally in the past, we've added categories to the boards if they have support from the community and runners, so if both of those things are in place it shouldn't be an issue adding runs.

The new boards can be located here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FCYLYS9VFaauoks_ZkJtPhJOzrxBnDtW2RehmXWCP9k/edit?usp=sharing

Runs can be submitted through PM to me at any time on either twitter, twitch (whisper or PM), or through the discord server, which is located in the Resources section of the game's page. All runners will be PM'd informing them their runs have been moved to the new miscellaneous category leaderboards. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me.

I mean technically you can speedrun anything as much as you like, you just may not be able to have your time on the boards. If the community doesn't allow that version, why not play on it first to see if you like it and then buy a legit copy if you want to go further?

If I didn't go to the event I wouldn't watch, you get a lot more personality by watching individual streamers.

I would be really thankful if you could change my name to LylatR

Thank you very much. I appreciate the effort you guys are making :)

TBH I've never once thought about games being like "Filipino games" or "American games" (I guess this would kinda be a UK game if we're going that way). Anyways, a good way to find other Filipino runners is clicking the thing under your name that says "Philippines" and it'll bring you to a page with all the runners registered as being from there.

I recommend speedrunning something other than a visual novel. Maybe an autoscroller? Star Fox 64, perhaps? Nope? Okay then.

Everyone can improve menuing.

Biggest tip is to stay away from TGH_Plays. That guy is a dick. TGH_Practices is okay, though.

Star fox 64 is pretty short and easy, and there are tutorials for almost every category. ~30 mins for a first Any% run.

I agree with Pottoww.

And to clarify what I mean...

  1. I don't think we should make sub-categories for Any%, Blue, and Red Line. It clutters the boards, and there is no restriction currently saying that you can't do runs on expert. Feel free to submit a PB played on expert as far as I'm concerned.

  2. I don't think we should remove the restriction for 100% being on expert. As per discord discussion, all runners who have given their opinions on this (every current runner other than Psonar) is against removing the restriction. When you play on expert, you get an ending screen that says "Great" at the end of the run. I say that's a "different ending" caused by playing on Expert, and it's the best ending because it makes you feel good (literally my reason).

  3. I'm all for a separate category for all medals on Normal, but I feel like it should be a "if people come we will build it" sort of deal. I don't really have any reasoning for this, just my opinion, and also, there's nothing wrong with making a google doc board in the meantime.

  4. We were also discussing changing the name of 100%, I don't think we should. That's just the elitest attitude talking tbh, I don't have any reason other than "It sounds cooler" and I feel cool running 100%.

So in a nutshell, I agree with Pottoww.

If there was a time that's not WR that's witnessed by a mod in-person (ie: at a marathon) that's below the cutoff, is that still cool with you? I mean, I don't have a problem with it personally.

TFW Drako posted Sparkster. Of course.

I'm gonna go with the same suit though. Obsessed with one game. A lot of autoscroller. Great memes. Got this PB the other night. Not a world record, but considering the RNG it's basically a perfect run at any skill level.

If TAS runs were on the board, WR would be SEVERAL minutes lower.

Longest run I've finished is Donkey Kong 64 101%. WR is like 5.5 hours and my run was 10.5. That's considered pretty decent for a first run.

Even as someone who has a Star Fox 64 Any% PB without video evidence that's not on the boards, I 100% think, and most people would probably agree that, "top times" must have video evidence. The question is, what qualifies a top time on the boards?

I think the "times below XX:XX require video evidence" rule is totally fair. The Sonic Adventure 2 community has that rule and they've never had a problem. It works really well for moderation purposes and speeds up verifying runs on average. The biggest contention for that rule is, what should the threshold be?

I feel as though that's for the mods to decide. Personally, I think the mods know the game well, and they know the community well, so they should be able to come to a clear consensus pretty reasonably. Now, I only mod 64 and Zero, but here are my recommendations for each category:

Runs under XX:XX require video evidence:

Star Fox 64:

Any%: 25:00 Blue Line: 28:00 Red Line: 38:00 100%: 1:35:00 Kill Slippy: All times 100 Rings Training Mode: All times Emulator Runs are the same as console runs.

Star Fox Zero (IGT):

Any%: 35:00 100%: 2:00:00

The times were picked based on what I thought was "the best reasonable time someone could get on a first run". This is without interacting with the community, looking at the rules, and posting a previous time. If they've posted a time before, there's no excuse for not reading the rules and if they want a time on the boards, they should abide by those rules. I mean, this kinda applies for a first run, but it's kinda understandable if someone decides to just do a run and doesn't look at the board first.

Let me know what you think. By no means am I making the rule, or are these thresholds set in stone, this should be an open discussion with the community to see what they think.

You should watch Drako run Sparkster, and Star Fox 64 is a pretty comfy game if you watch Beefwellington run it. He's doing it at StR.
