Loading Autosaves doesn't work, next thing to try is Exiting to the 360 Dashboard, then restarting the game, prior to starting the mission.
Not sure, last time I did a run to that point I just loaded an autosave before the mission and it didn't crash. Whether this was just luck or not though...
I'll try it again today if I get a run to that point.
Fridge, there were more reasons than that, the massive "discussion" we had over this is buried in the SDA thread somewhere. But until someone actually wants to support those old arguments there's no point going back.
All the reasons were bad anyway
As one of the people who originally argued FOR 30 FPS, I apologize for making things annoyingly complicated for every SA runner for bad reasons. Just showing that the FPS Limiter in game is on with every run would be much easier, and would reduce the amount of variables a run can have which can impact it (E.G. Hardware dependency).
While I still believe the game should still be played at 30 FPS (or higher) for a better playing experience (MTA, Casual etc), it shouldn't be a part of speedrunning.
So yeah, I agree
Turns out the throwing kinfe is not actually the issue, as the game just crashed on me while I was only using the regular knife.

Next thing to test is just reloading a save before the mission and see if that works.
If THAT doesn't work, then I guess I will just try restarting the whole console before the mission instead.
I'd be down for an Any% race, I just checked and the 26th is a Sunday so I should be free that day.
Just over 3 hours into the run you get to a mission called "The Great Mexican Train Robbery", during this mission you have to ride a horse with Abraham Reyes for about 5 minutes, then you arrive at Chuparosa. The game then gives you a throwing knife and you're told to stealth kill a load of guards to steal a train. The problem is this has a tendency to crash the game.

It seems like something to do with the throwing knife in this mission, and the crash only seems to happen during runs and it never happens once the Xbox has been restarted and the mission resumed, making it hard to test anything.
Some theories as ways around this were suggested when it happened to me last on stream, including:
Don't use throwing knives (maybe speedrun-no-stealth-strats are faster anyway)(On possible way maybe to climb upto the train station roof, kill the guy guarding the machine gun and use that gun to kill everyone else)
Save and Restart the console before starting the mission (to not waste time on the 5 minute horse ride)
Don't throw the Knives so fast (seems to be why I didn't crash on the 2nd throw in one of the examples)
¤insert more ideas here¤
Any other ideas or findings here would be nice, keep in mind that we're not 100% sure what triggers the glitch, as it only happens in full game runs and not short practice segments, so testing glitches which just stop the game crashing are harder to test than strats that just avoid using the knives altogether (if using the knife is even the issue)
So, for the past week runs have been building up for GTA V in the submission queue and from what I can tell no one is verifying/denying them. We're up to 7 submissions now.
I don't really feel I know enough about GTA V to verify or deny a run, and apparently no other mod is doing it either, so I think we should try to decide on a new mod for GTA on this site, obviously one focusing on GTA V.
My first thought would be Dekap, but again I don't really know anything so I thought I'd ask what you guys think. Keep in mind anyone we choose will have the ability to deny and verify other GTA games too
Doesn't work, that was the 3rd thing I tried 2 years ago
:(
EDIT: I also tried it recently and it didn't work, I just tried it now and again, it doesn't Q_Q
Plz pac
I was thinking about hosting all the splits and the guide etc on here to get people over here. People keep asking me to upload the splits now
Ok, so I posted this 3 months ago and then kinda forgot about it. Can someone be amazing and make an Updated speedrun.com logo for me. Just the plain style that LuaTanuki did is awesome :P I'll give it a shot myself with the fonts linked but I doubt I can get it right
Since Twitch Bux is given once a month, we could have a post/vote on where the money gained each month should go to. If that month we used Oasiz's server a lot, give it to him. Maybe we used the mumble server a lot that month? Maybe we had a load of SRL races.
Anyway, I think rather than deciding on what we should give it to right now, we should look at what we did and how much was earnt every month. If no good cause is found then save it for next month. Maybe once a month is too much, so save up the month for 3. Twitch Bux has a delay of 45 days so maybe looking back on what was done that long ago would be wise
$3.5k? Jesus man, I really hope this site gets bigger and takes off for you with that kind of investment I wonder how many people just go to "www.speedrun.com" wondering what it is
Similar to what's happening now in Vice City, if a way was found to dupe missions in SA, almost all of the game could be skipped. This is because the mission counter in SA works differently than 3 and VC. When a mission is completed a counter is added to, increasing it's value by one. When the counter is a certain number the next mission in that chain of missions is set to a certain one. Therefore, if it was possible to dupe Tagging Up Turf (Sweet's first mission in Los Santos) 9 times, the next mission in the chain would be The Green Sabre, the last mission of Los Santos (Note that Los Santos Sweet and Return to Los Santos Sweet are different counters)
I apparently did this glitch in SA once http://www.twitch.tv/m/607529 however I've watched the video through a few times (I downloaded it too) and I can't figure out what caused it. It seems that Grove 4 Life crashes upon completion of a goal (one territory) and so does Tagging Up Turf (Lighnat0r tried it with hacks). This is probably because mission specific memory is stored globally and not per script as in 3/VC. It may be the case that finding certain missions that don't crash upon completion is the key to the glitch, once a way to dupe missions is found.
Anyway, before anything like that needs to be worried about, a consistent way to start missions twice needs to be found. Maybe gang territories could be duped too, however I'm not sure if that would even help with the "total territories held" counter. Obviously rampages are out of the question, seeing that SA doesn't have them.
I'll probably mumble later maybe but today I'm just staying in bed.
Tirean: Ok that's understandable, but in all your posts you keep blaming everything on Tirean without explaining why. We aren't nuthugging Tirean. He just said to me in steam that he's going to stay out of this conservation to avoid any accusations of blame. Like you say I didn't even know who said it, so who said it is irrelevant as long as they were trustworthy.
IRC: Ok cool, sorry that you told me and I forgot, my bad. I'm not in IRC atm so I can't see if you have joined but most of the time everyone just idles in there. We have name pings so if someone wants our attention they just say our name in a message and it pops up/makes a noise. I've got pings for "San Andreas, SA and Joshimuz" and I seem to catch enough messages. I don't think the website does that though. I just let HydraIRC connect on PC startup and I forget about it. It's not a constant attention thing so having no one to immediately shouldn't be a problem, but if someone calls you out on something you should be able to defend yourself :P
Pause: OK
NitPicky: When we first changed to rules to the whole restart the game thing, we decided that we would restart after every reset, to be completely fair to avoid max health stuff and weapon stuff. This was found to be extremely annoying to do, and after a few days we decided that it should just be done for Lung Cap. This is because of all the stats the lung cap is super important. "but really, what difference does it make if you wait for the vallet without swimming or etc? " You can make the DA spawn in a really good location using spawning manipulation similar to that done in Return to Los Santos. You can't do this if you swim, but if you going 90% lung cap upgrade you could skip it. You could save a lot of time (I forget how much but its 30-1:00) by looking in a specific spot (slightly to the left of the centre of the pointy tower, if I remember right) to make him spawn at the rampy road going east (the one you take to go swim) which is really close by, compared to the other spawns available. You also save time in Snail Trail because the Taxi only spawns for the guy when you get close, more time you spend swimming is more time added to the length of the mission. If you wait too long you could even fail, making getting the lung cap as quick as possible really important. Again, communication problem means you didn't know this.
Talking: Again, communication problem. You have us two on steam/skype and that's it I guess. It's not that everyone hates you (Pac seems to have gone out of his way to help, he was the one who helped us time the starting of the race last time.) it's just most of us can't talk to you (Twitch chat is a bad place to chat), so I guess it's mine and Korteks fault :P
I'm bad at typing and tired, so here's a shitty video featuring my laptop fan.
I forgot to talk about the whole fresh game start thing but yeah you get the point.
Anyway, the problem here is communication. You said it just now in your post that you've explained all these issues but no one hears you.
For contrast mamamia, mine is one of the most expensive :P
I wanted something for people to click in my twitch bio, but all there really is for this site is the SpeedRunRecords thing at the top and that's not quite big enough, can someone with some artistic skill make something for us? :(
I made a quick video rough video to show what happens when you go the other way in Ivan the Not so Terrible
Another thing much later in the game I just found as I was watching Dispersor's WR vod I noticed that in the mission "A Long Way to Fall" you need to point a gun at someone to get the location of a targets apartment. Then on your way to the apartment the guy you interrogated calls the target to warn him about you.
Then as you can see from Dispersor's video (I hope this link works) you have to kill all his guards.
(Embedding the video didn't work so here is a link to the right spot) www. twitch.tv/dispersor/c/3053070?t=162m30s
Well I was wondering what happens if you just shoot the guy you interrogate after he tells you the location, and it turns out by doing that the target's guards don't have any time to react to your arrival and you can just run straight to the target.
Not only is it faster because you skip the cutscene but its faster and safer because you don't shoot anyone :P
