PresJPolk, I think you're looking a little too deep here lol. I have no way of ever beating this person's time, we run two variants (like region-wise) of the same game, and the one I run is inherently slower. As the leaderboards make no distinction between the region difference, I don't realistically have a way to beat them, even with flawless play. Couple that with the fact they're infinitely more experienced with the game than me? Lol. My time isn't even in the top 10. Idc about claiming a WR. I do this for fun. :)

And yes you can skip cutscenes, we all know this. I think I need to specify a thing or 2 for clarity. The game starts, timer begins. Now, normally 2 cutscenes will play, they start up but you can't skip them for about 2-3 seconds, maybe more. So I was just noticing that this run went straight from hitting start to the action without all the loading and having to skip in between (which as I said DOES count towards the time in this game, afaIk).

Anyways, this is already starting to breed drama and ridiculousness, which I don't care to entertain. Bygones = bygones :)

I'm not going to name the game as I feel it would being unnecessary drama into the mix, but I can tell you that in this game the timer starts from the moment we hit start, not when the beginning cutscenes end. The cutscenes and their skipping are included in the times. Also, as I stated above, there's a big chance that maybe I'm missing something and perhaps there are variations between the different regions of this game, and maybe they can skip the cutscenes straight up with no loads? Idk haha. The point of this wasn't really to accuse anyone, it was to ask is there a criteria for verifying runs for a WR bc it seems odd that someone gets to verify their own WR. Seems very odd to me.

@Komrade, I see what you're saying, but as I said this wasn't really to call the person out, as I'm new to the game I was viewing and could easily be uninformed on how it's timed. I'm not trying to openly accuse thix person of cheating :/

This was more in line with what Drakodan is saying. Idk if having self-verification on a run that's for the WORLD RECORD is such a great idea. I can understand up until that point, bc anything less than the WR has very little prestige attached. I just found it odd that the one time I notice something fishy it's in a WR run, and was both submitted and verified by the individual claiming the record.

Didn't mean to stir up any drama, I've said before in my posts that even if I disagree personally with a rule/standard on the site that I'll always support what the masses want as long as it's within reason. I was just curious if there was any kind of additional screening done when a run claims a WR. Seems like at the very least that's a situation that would merit it.

Edit: also @ Komrade...wait...how does only gameplay matter and not when we choose to start timing something?! Lol. Thats the whole point of this site and activity we engage in. If I start timing my run at the second I hit Start and so does this other person yet their video doesnt have 2 loading screens with 2 cutscenes that you have to view 2-3 seconds of before you can skip it how is that fair? Gameplay matters but stuff like that matters just as much when time is a major factor.

I apologize in advance if this isnt the correct section to point out something like this, but I just noticed something a little odd to me, and I'm hoping for some clarification.

In watching one of the runs on the site, I noticed a glaring problem right at the start of said run, something that would shorten the length by some 20-30 seconds. It seems an entire cutscene that would need to be skipped never even started to play. The game just starts right at the action lol. I thought hmm maybe the person who verified it just missed this? And then I look and the runner who submitted the video is also the one who verified it lol. Something about that just seems fishy as Hell. Im not looking to call this person out, Im just wondering how a run can be a WR run if the only person looking it over for problems is the person who made it?

It was my understanding that since our videos are the only means of verification that if anything (no matter how small it is) is wrong/suspicious about it, then thats a major problem. This video has an entire section missing that afaIk cant just NOT happen lol.

Thanks for the info SephJul! I had a feeling mashing could cut down at least a LITTLE, something about 3 bites per zombie run-in seemed WAY WRONG lol. Man...this is a totally different beast than RE2 haha. Can't see myself ever seriously running this, but it was mainly meant for fun as an alternative to running RE2 all day, every day. I'm looking forward to learning the ins and outs :)

Texas, USAConkyJoe897 years ago

Ohhhh right, I forgot Jill and Chris have different damage ratios. Thanks for the input, I just need to get the run down better and I won't take these particular bites again. They were due solely to me being totally unfamiliar with which way to dodge lol

I apologize in advance, as I know this is a very rookie question, but Im new to Director's Cut (only classic RE's I've played seriously are 2 and C:V). I got a copy today, and was bit by 2 zombies pretty early on. I look at my health and boom..DANGER! Am I missing something? Do zombies always do the bite 3 times animation, or did I just not mash out or something? I tried mashing but it didnt seem to shorten their attacks at all.Never played a RE where 2 bites drops you to Danger.

P.s. I was playing on Normal not Arrange, so its not like they were dealing extra dmg.

Good to know, my copy of Director's Cut should arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to having a game to take my mind off RE2. It's been driving me insane trying to get sub 1:18:00

True, but I mean you essentially need perfect play to even come close to those anyways! Lol. When I said "be competitive" I just meant to crack top 8 in general. As most of us are using a PS2 with FDS.

Edit: Actually I just looked and I have the same model that Carci used to set his Leon A WR, SCPH 70012, with the 1.11 driver. So thats good news lol :)

Donkey Kong Country 1 all the way! It's just the right blend of all facets of gaming (imo, of course). Perfectly balanced difficulty/progression, plus an easy to learn moveset with a few advanced techniques for the hXc player. Lovely and unique (and oh-so nostalgic now!) visuals. And a sick soundtrack, featuring what I consider the best tune in video games (Aquatic Ambience!!!). Whenever I think SNES I think DKC1. It takes me back to happier, more innocent times.

I know now that in reality things around me were actually falling to pieces (addiction issues on both sides of my family, money laundering-ish type activity and the subsequent getting caught lol, as well as a host of other familial troubles), but me & my sister were blissfully unaware, our biggest problems being having to choose the next SNES purchase wisely, and if we were getting Happy Meals that day or not lol. DKC will always transport me back to when life was still amazing, unspoiled by stress and the ills of modernity.

Brb, headin to dust off the 'ol SNES, insert DKC, and have a good cry...lol! :D

In Resident Evil 2 (my speedrunning game of choice), there's a strat to get the Final Boss stuck in an A.I.-loop where he can't damage you, and will just jump in place up and down whilst you plug shot after shot into him. It's A.I.-exploit hilarity at it's finest, and I wouldn't have ever known if it wasn't for the thread here.

Like actual, in-control gameplay when the camera angle switches? Or like when it's loading the next room during a door opening sequence? Does it totally freeze to where you have to reset or you mean it just drags ass a little bit?

It has yet to freeze or lag on me when I'm actually in control of the character, although sometimes depending on which room I'm entering it'll sorta pause a second or two on black-screen before it comes on, but still, it's nowhere NEAR as long as it did sometimes on my old, fat PS2. I swear it would sometimes be loading the next room for 3-4 seconds, literally. And until I got a slim PS2 with FDS I thought that was unavoidable and just had to be tolerated...lol. It's insane how playing on a slim PS2 is essentially non-negotiable if you want your times to be at all competitive.

Texas, USAConkyJoe897 years ago

It loads MUCH faster with it, it can end up lowering your time by alot. I bought a SCPH-70012 and the change was immediately noticeable. Hope this helps!

Texas, USAConkyJoe897 years ago

The splitter I'm looking at is all female slots, so I think I just need to buy the splitter and two 6-male RCA cables. PS2 goes into splitter, and then one RCA to tv, the other to the capcard. Now, hopefully I can finally start submitting runs soon. I hope this set-up doesnt have frame dip or sync issues.

  1. RNG, and how it feels like when I watch WR runs they get good RNG EVERY time it comes into play, and I can't make it through the first 5mins and I've already gotten the worst RNG you can get in every instance lol. Seriously, it gets old. I feel like I have cursed game copies haha.

  2. Some of the categories (or lack thereof). I feel like some games could use more categories (or perhaps removing one to add one, stuff like that) and no one else feels the same lol. That always sucks.

  3. The elitist thing, as the OP mentions. I especially don't like when runners act all elitist and the sole reason their run was good and not ass-bad was bc they were blessed by the RNG Gods. Lol

Well, ConkyJoe is an old childhood nickname my Dad called me (and still does sometimes). Absolutely NO idea where he came up with that, as my name isn't Joe, it's Jonn haha. But I like it and it stuck. 89 is my birth year, sure that much is obvious though. Lol

RCA is the Yellow/Red/White cable right? That's what my capcard takes, it has RCA input (female). So I need a splitter, and 2 RCA double male ended cables, gotcha.

FINALLY!!! Lol I've been trying to get this simple answer for weeks now haha. Hopefully this is correct or I'm back to Square 1! :/

Texas, USAConkyJoe897 years ago

So would this work: PS2 goes into the input of a powered splitter, then one cable goes from the splitter to capture card, and another cable from splitter to tv? (Those cables being double male-ended or whatever its called)

Texas, USAConkyJoe897 years ago

Hey gang, Im brand new to capturing and very PC illiterate haha. I can figure out how to get the USB2 working once Im hooked up to it, as there are instructions for that much. What I need to know is how to hook up to it, like apparently I need a splitter and cables but Idk which ones, this may seem like Day One stuff, but as Ive said Im brand new to this. Suggetions please?

(To be specific, I need to record Resident Evil 2 for PS1 played on a PS2. I have an HDtv, but theres no lag when I play. Its just as good as a normal tube TV).

Texas, USAConkyJoe897 years ago

I thought I had heard that somewhere too, thanks for the quick response. I was asking bc I saw a video of a runner and he pause canceled during the Tyrant fight and started getting upset that "it compromised the run" lol. So I just wanted to clarify.
