in the 1.9+ SSG, the 2nd nether portal doesn't always send you to the end portal room
I know its 1 block in the nether= 8 blocks in the overworld, so is it some really precise spacing, or is it rng?

you have to stay in the middle of the portal
make sure not to have your back against the netherrack too

oh, I didn't see this and I still had some runs go into a cave with diamonds and I was really confused. thanks for this, sorry I didn't see it till now.
