Flagpole Glitch on Samsung TV

I am trying to become a good runner at Mario, and I’ve been doing pretty good. But the problem is I’m not always pixel perfect because SPG is hard for me because I have a Samsung smart TV which I’ve been told has a delay on old NES games. For example: flagpole glitch. I was only able to do flagpole glitch one time in one year on my other Roku TV and that was it. Also that was just completely out of luck, I had no idea how that worked. So I tried doing it again on a twitch stream and that didn’t work, so I tried doing it on my YouTube stream, and guess what, that didn’t work either. So I was wondering if someone could voice/video chat with me on my Google hangouts chat box because I really would like to know if anyone knows how to do flagpole glitch on a Samsung smart TV or any TV that has a delay like the one I have right now. Either that or email me at skitaculour@gmail.com . Thanks!!

UPDATE: if anyone wants to voice chat with me about it, email me at my email address so I can give you the link, because this website won’t let me post the link to the google hangouts group chat.

Doing flagpole glitch is no different than on your Roku, all you need to do is press the same inputs but later

Okay, well then, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, because I am doing the inputs as instructed (and as fast as my fingers can go with the inputs) and I can’t do it.

I would recommend using a crt or an old tv (90s tv) to play your nes games. Because there is an input delay on the newer tvs. I used one in my warpless pb and you can tell how bad I am due to the input delay. So use a crt, aka a box tv. Not a flatscreen.

Also, what's your pb?

Flagpole glitch is hard. It's extremely precise, and doing just one input one frame off can screw everything up. Getting it 0 times is normal.

Mars02 I don’t have a PB rn because I can’t get the inputs correctly every time.

Mars02 I don’t have access to a square tv so I’m trying to figure out a way to do the inputs on my current TV

zsjetu9 yeah, that’s true, but not to be rude, that’s what I’m trying to figure out. How to make it less hard, especially on my flatscreen tv.

hey.. you know you don't need flagpole glitch to get a pb right? My first pb was 10:30 and it was the furthest thing from perfect

That’s true. But I wanna learn. I’m not trying to get a PB necessarily with FPG, but I wanna practice to soon try to get a 4:56/7.

getting a crt will definitely help but if you don't have access to it you just have to practice if you want to do a fpg

you should probably work on getting a few PBs before practicing fpg because it would help tremendously to be intimately familiar with the game's physics first

Yeah you shouldn't be going for fpg walljump, or bbg until you're going for 4:57. Walljump actually go for when trying sub 5. And for walljumps and piranha plant pipe jumps, don't go for until sub 5:10. I would go for a sub 6 time at first, with fire. And work your way up the leaderboard.

It's like dangerous said... You do the same inputs... But later. Fpg is really hard. It sounds like you have a misconception of how hard it is. Talking on a Google call with someone isn't going to help you. Get pellssons rom with the practice mode. It literally tells you what inputs you pressed and what you SHOULD have pressed for fpg - - - also if your emulator has a slowdown feature, try slowing the inputs down to 12% or even 6%... (or slower) So you can make the correct inputs to show you conceptually how it is done then gradually speed it up

1-1 Flagpole Glitch (DISCLAIMER: This is not practical to add to a run until trying for roughly a low 4:57) See for full tutorial

You must land on the 3rd block from the top on the first pixel while not holding "B" - on the first frame with mario in the "running" animation (as opposed to the jump/falling animation), you hold only right (not "A" or "B"), then for exactly the next 2 frames, hold "B", then do a full jump on the 3rd frame (as shown). Hold all inputs until the jump is completed. By the time you reach the flagpole block, you will need to release "A" and "B", and hold "left" for exactly 3 frames (as shown), then jump on the 4th frame. If you do the first "jump" half of the trick correctly, you will clip into the block assuming you do a full jump, even if you mess up the "second" part. If you do not clip into the block, it means you messed up the jump.

Frame counter will obviously be different depending on your pace - as long as you hit the first pixel on the block, it doesn't matter if you do a full or partial jump. In order to "save" the framerule, you will need to be 4 frames from perfect on the coin pipe section, which means that some "380"s will not be fast enough to save the rule. Credit to runner "Sockfolder" for finding out exact inputs for an RTA run.

There are what? Like 20 people in the world that have done 1-1 fpg in a run? It's a hard trick. Especially with extra input lag.

From what I've gathered from this thread, you don't seem to have a PB, so I don't understand at all why you would be trying to get FPG right now.

I know that this has been said numerous times in this thread, but FPG is difficult. Like, really difficult. I know that there are runners like somewes, Kosmic, and tavenwebb2002 with really high consistency rates, but that's because they've spent so many hours perfecting it that a lot of it has become muscle memory.

I myself only have a 30-50% consistency rate most days, and although that may still seem impressive knowing that FPG is difficult to some people, I don't personally see myself as good at it currently.

But uh yeah, bottom line: FPG is a difficult trick. Like what zsjetu9 said, failing it is normal, since there are a handful of frame perfect inputs. If you don't have a PB, I highly suggest you get a couple so you can have more knowledge of the game, and I also recommend you get a CRT TV, since using a newer TV has input lag, as others have said.
