So basically my question is are things like the RetroDuo or RetroTrio+ or Retron5 Allowed or are you required to use original consoles. Also the RetroDuo/Trio use actual nes hardware while the retron5 uses emulation, but would you put both the consoles under emulation?

Approved hardware/software

  • Original NES, Famicom or FDS
  • Original NES or Famicom with Everdrive or Powerpak
  • Wii, Wii U, Switch and 3DS Virtual Console
  • FCEUX, Nestopia, Bizhawk, OpenEMU
  • NES Classic Edition
  • Analogue NT Mini

A lot of the clone consoles are notoriously inaccurate. For many games, it might not be a big deal to use those. However, for a game as optimized as this one where milliseconds are significant, we have elected not to accept those. We maintain the same ruleset for all skill levels to keep things fair.

I'm just confused as to why clone consoles aren't allowed yet emulators are.

Roopert literally just stated why

The emulators we allow are perfectly accurate.
