I’ve been thinking about using rodrigo’s 8x8 texturepack because I like how it looks, but I’m unsure as to whether it will render my runs invalid (because this resource pack is designed to improve framerate at the expense of visuals).

no, any fps boosters if its JUST a fps booster (and in your case a texture pack), wont affect your speedrun. unless it alters the game in some way. tbh, i dont even know if texture packs affect speedruns the same way mods do.

@benchbotch I've had a look at the ore textures (check for advantages), it looks fine to use. I would recommend going to the Minecraft speedrunning discord server and ask there under #help, just to double check

@benchbotch you must reset the crosshair to minecraft's default and must make sure fire height hasn't been changed.
