@CursedToast I noticed they have 60, 120, and Any in the filters. Soooo it's a thing?
Nah, don't take that as a thing, that was from me testing some configurations earlier.
Sidenote: If you got a notification saying I took WR, my apologies. I was testing some configurations and I didn't change the "Player 1" field to be "Test" -- sorry if you got a notification.
I've not even routed this game yet, personally. Been observing and working on the splitter.
Actually noone here assumed knife may be patched soon. I mean, we don't know. I think they will patch it, but don't really have to do that. We may have to wait for Ghost Survivor update for that actually. But for now I am actually down for whatever, we may change things if it gets patched.
I hate to bring the argument back up, but since 60 and "120" seems set in stone to be together on the leader boards, why not just have 144 instead? It's a much more common value than 120, and isn't hard to reach if you reduce your image quality to 50% for bosses. People with 60hz monitors are still locked out of 120 without getting 3rd party software, so I guess I was just wondering why it's still 120. Again, I apologise for being a hassle.
When I tried vsync with 120hz on my monitor I couldn't even reach 120 anymore, but with rivatuner and 120 cap enabled with the software I am 120 throughout. This is the only reason I bought it up.
Also nobody is telling anybody to get a new monitor to run this game.
Is that what was decided? Your frame rate can only go up as high as 120? And if you can’t cap your frame rate to 120 you have to cap it at 60?
Honestly this is a touchy subject. The reality is, nothing else can really be said in regards to this topic, we just need to come to a decision. There is no middle ground here, the knife is broken at 120+ FPS, and a game capped at 120 FPS will just be a knife fest, basically almost no ammo routing is required (Not to mention 50%[rough estimate based on this thread] of the playerbase will be a major disadvantage). At 60 FPS about 50% of us will have to play at reduced settings, I personally see the lesser of two evils, but I don't make these decisions.
When has speed running been about maximizing the graphics and admiring the scenery?? We're talking in circles here, lets just make a decision and live with it.
60/120 fps for the main category is a good ideia. But banning variable is a huge no, its like banning OOB, makes no sense, putting variable into misc or CE would be better.
This will be my final post in this thread.
I proposed earlier a solution that would benefit everyone which is 60fps and variable. 60fps would be fair for everyone bc I'm certain that everyone here can achive a stable 60fps by tweaking some settings. Everyone would be on an equal playing field. Variable is provided by the game and combined with OoB it makes it the true Any% and should therefor stay here and not be moved to EC, its the fastest way to play the game and people who had the hardware could achive the best possible time there is.
Then people wanted 120fps. Here's my problem with it:
120 is NOT an equal playing field. Everyone will NOT be able to achive a stable 120fps. It is a way to devide runners instead of keeping them together. The reason people want 120fps is because of the OP knife, they think 60fps is too slow and they dont want to run on variable cause they will be at a disadvantage. So let's ask for a higher framerate. Biggest problem about this is that in the future people will ask for 144, 165 etc and you will NOT have an argument against it without contradicting yourselves. If you allow it once you can allow it again. So you might as well allow all kinds of FPS's from the start. It will be a total mess.
Secondly is that most people are on 60hz who now would need a 3rd party program to overclock their monitor in order to play at 120fps. Sure they could stay at 60fps if they want which would make 120 even more pointless bc it would have even fewer runners.
I dont see any valid reasons why 120 would even be a thing tbh.
I've been on SRC since the start and i've seen everything, drama, bad moderation, terrible category setup and I do not believe that this is the right way to go. This is a new game, it is extremly important that things are done right at the start otherwise it will catastrophic in the end. The changes we will do this early will affect the game on SRC forever. Going back will not be an option at that point. That's how I think about it.
Whatever happens I hope that people will enjoy running this game and find new stuff that everyone can benefit from.
Imagine 10 years ahead, people asking for a 1200 fps because 1000 fps looks like shit, and they cant even broke a knife in a 1/4 of second Kappa
So... you're literally agreeing with the fact it shouldn't be one category that's capped at 120, so why not just add two categories, 60, and 120. I can wholeheartedly say people are not going to request the difference between 120 and 144. If they want above 120, they can go run variable OoB. All 120 allows us to do is use our knife strats, 60 is normal gameplay. I really don't see the issue with having those two categories, but oh well. You're not keeping everyone happy, you can't it's impossible. But i feel like you're ignoring and displeasing a lot more people not adding two categories rather than forcing one. Decisions are in your hands, so do with it what you will, I tried, at least.
Honestly, no mayter what we do, it will not be 100% fair and people will be unhappy regardless since that what pc always was..if you want records you gonna out the time and money into your equipment to get that fps. Not everyone can run the game at 120 fps constantly so thinking that is “fair” is not 100% accurate and not everyone wants to run at 60..we made then variables to where it doesnt cludder the boards and make unnecessary categories that may end up being dead weight while giving people the freedom to run what they want and enjoy. All of the mods have had several discussions about the game, the fps, the rules and testing for this game..and I can say it has been hella stressful and I know the others will agree. We want this game to accommodate everyone both serious runner and newcomers. You can run at 60-120 or go nuts with your fps on OoBs. Just enjoy the game..enjoy the run and have fun which is what speedrunning is supposed to be. This will be the final post for this board. The decisions have been made and the mods think that we did the best we could to accommodate everything that has happened with this game this opening week. Happy running and let the games begin.
