Trying to reverify older speedruns, Questions
United States

I watched a few videos about cheating in speedrunning and I decided to check some older speedruns for myself. There are some things I need to know however.

  1. What tools would I need to do things like frame-by-frame and audio analysis, etc. The tools would have to be on Android because my main device is an Android tablet.

  2. How do emulators (including the NES Classic) render Super Mario Bros. compared to the original NES console?

  3. Is there anything else I need to know when doing this?

Thanks for reading and (maybe) answering my questions.

  1. I'm not really sure what to suggest for tools for Android as I haven't had a tablet in several years and I'd likely never use one for verification of runs anyway. I'm assuming the rest of the SMB1 mods use tools on PC as well.

  2. Console and the emulators (FCEUX, Nestopia, Bizhawk) we most commonly see render the game at 60.0988139 FPS for the NTSC version. Wii VC runs at 59.824 FPS and WiiU VC runs at 59.94 FPS. I'm not sure we have the exact n umber, but we figure the NES Classic runs around the VC framerate which obviously makes those versions a little slower.

  3. A lot of experience watching runs and knowing what's normal and what isn't goes a long way. There are several things we look for and check and may even ask for additional things from the runner if we lack confidence or if there isn't adequate data about the runner that we can find. I won't get any more specific than that on that topic though.
