Time delay at the beggining?

Hey I just got a new PB (not the best ever but PB anyway) using an abnormal time delay at the start.

I usually use the ones I found in this SMB Frame Count, normally -5.03 or -4.33 and sometimes -7.12 or -8.52 when running. I use them for no particular reason other that they're the most common delays I've seen but no matter what delay I use somehow I always found an extremely hard (for me) Bros. pattern in 8-3.

I was using -4.33, I made it to 8-3 where the Bros. told me "not today", instead of resetting I kept playing and the next pattern was very easy: down, up, jump all bros.

When I finished the level I got a +12s in my split after dying in 8-4 I reset the run and added 12 seconds to my delay hopping to get that easy pattern. I don't know if my thinking is correct but I was very tired and annoyed of always getting a double kill pattern to I just used a -12.33 time delay at the beginning.

I finished the run with a new PB and a big question.

Are abnormal time delays allowed?

To avoid the demo playing I spammed the Select button until -2.5x when I press Start to begin the run.

Of course, why not

The game is heavily optimized I thought we all had to choose a fixed delay. I used -18.33 LOL I made a typo on my first post, I already had -4.33 plus the 12 seconds and my awful math I ended up with a -18.33.

Thanks for the reply now I know two things:

  • My delay seems fine.
  • I shouldn't do math.

The reason people delay on the title screen is so that they can arrive at 8-2 on a particular framerule, which allows them to do BBG. If you're not doing BBG then there's not much of a reason to use any kind of set delay at all.
