Villager Trading

I'm trying to figure out how trading works in the record by dream to try this speedrun myself (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=989&v=fj28UtF0-Fs&feature=emb_title), but whenever I try to recreate what dream did the villager brings his stick price up to 57 per emerald after his first restock. I also don't see how at 16:25 of the video, dream continues to trade sticks for emeralds after the villager ran out of stock.

not sure why but after 3 more attempts the villager didn't raise the prices. I guess it's random chance or something

If you hurt the villagers at all or if you use flint and steel on the TNT I believe that they will dislike you, and therefore raise the prices. And it doesn't matter who you hurt either. There's a gossip mechanic and at certain times of day, the villagers will gossip around and will tell one another if you hit them or whatever. So more than likely on that third attempt you either didn't blow up their houses or you just so happened to time it so that the villagers hadn't gossiped about you to the guy that you were trading with.

Also, as far as the the restocking goes, there's also certain times of day that the villagers will work. Its at this point that they stand near their workstation and will restock every so often. When they restock, you will hear a little sound effect (like, a twang for the Fletcher, and a bubbling flask-ish thing for the cleric). So if you're trading with them at certain times during the day they won't restock, other times they will be restocking every couple of seconds.

I hope this answers your questions, and if anyone else notices inaccuracies in my post please point them out!

Hi thanks for the reply. I made a video demonstrating my problem( I was just testing like this and not doing the whole run). I think it has something to do with supply and demand, but the inconsistencies make no sense.

I've never seen that before! I honestly have no clue whats going on. What version are you on?

Edit: I just was able to recreate your problem. I'm guessing that you didn't make a new world in-between tests? I found out that the bad trade deals persist even if you kill all the villagers before spawning new ones. This is probably a bug... But if you're actually doing speedruns this shouldn't be a problem so long as you don't hit the villagers or blow up their houses.

Let me know if this wasn't the case. This might require further investigation...

I got in contact with Dream, and he said that villagers give bad trades on the first day, so like hb33green said, this doesn't matter in the run. Glad that's all cleared up haha!
