Regarding The PC Customization Glitch in IL's

since the leaderboard is one and the same currently (and i hope we can keep it that way) allowing pc-only glitches does kinda make it pointless to run certain missions on console... unless you figured out how to somehow kill salopopetropulus in 21 seconds on console :P

Sweden

If your only pleasure in speedrunning is seeing #1 next to your name, then you should play on the fastest console available. If you speedrun for fun, who cares?

France

LOL Zefie i laugh so hard. thanks you. That video is great, and we need the same thing. to not have to deal with any of the current issue that we got.

United States

Again, I don't think the issue is just console vs pc. The issue is a glitch that breaks certain levels vs glitchless. I'm a PC runner and I feel like there's no point in running certain levels now. Which bums me out because I love the game and would love to run a bunch of different types of levels.

And before you say, "Well, run them anyway," I think that misses the point of speedrunning communities in the first place. It's not about having "1st" next to your name. It's the spirit of competition - both with yourself, but also with others - that makes it so fun and interesting. In my opinion, the glitch harms that spirit of competition, and thus harms the opportunities to speed run the game.

But I've said my piece. I'm done with the thread. If some people feel strongly about keeping it for various reasons, I'm totally fine with that. I just haven't seen anyone put forth any reasons other than, "Stop complaining," which to me isn't a very good argument.

Sweden

I haven't exactly heard a very convincing argument for banning it either besides one level that's already a joke being faster. If it breaks other levels sure but 99% of them aren't very affected by it because their objectives don't necessitate multiple hits from a rocket launcher. The only ones I can think of are Sahelanthropus, Quiet Exit, and Metallic Archaea (with this one being pretty arguable since it kills the radius) in all the others even stopping to fire any gun at all is mostly a waste of time.

United States

Ahem... that's actually five levels if you count the extreme versions. Or essentially 10% of the game.

I could also see it potentially messing up both "Backup, Back Down" levels, 100% runs on "Code Talker" and "Traitor's Caravan" and not to mention every single NG+ All Missions category.

So yeah, that's way, way more than 1% of runs being affected.

And even if you don't agree that that's not a convincing argument, you still haven't offered any reason to keep it.

Sweden

My main reason for not banning it is entirely practical, you can't ban things from an any% category, it makes it by definition not any%. I certainly think it provides more depth in gameplay than the alternatives in any of these missions, which would just be mashing out rockets regardless. Especially considering it has the trade-off of killing your radius, making you rely on more carefully aimed shots rather than the fire-and-forget style of most other launchers.

so apparently a limited version of this bug exists on console:

havent tested it yet since im at work...

I would like to get some confirmation that this doesn't allow you to do the full glitch. Because, I currently don't see why it wouldn't.

Switzerland

you can only do it with slots that have a "allowed" slot above or below... havent tested this yet though

Newfoundland, Canada

That makes sense, but that doesn't prevent you from storing a selection. I guess the only issue is if the game lets you press X on the empty selection screen. Excepting strange cases where the only empty slot has unselectable slots next to it (I can't think of any right now, but they might exist), this would let us do the full glitch.

Remember that you can apply a stored option using any empty menu. It doesn't have to be the same kind.

The latest update fixes the glitch for PC. You can still use the console method to edit a crossed out part, but you also can't select from an empty menu, so it's no longer doable.

Switzerland

niiice :D sooo now that they removed it what are we gonna do with the old records? are they just gonna be the fastest forever or are we gonna remove them?

Newfoundland, Canada

The thing is, I could still get the record on the current patch, since they didn't take away any weapons that I customized.

United States

Which is why we would make a rule that you can't use glitched weapons. Otherwise, from now on, everyone who wants to run those levels or NG+ is going to be forced to find old installations of the game. I.e., it's going to be really discouraging for any new runners who come to the game because old runners with glitched weapons will have a huge advantage on many levels.

Not to mention console runners (as already discussed).

It's really early on in this game's speed running life, I think it's important to keep the game as open and accessible for new people to run as possible and foster as much competition as possible.

Just my two cents.

this

we pretty much have to ban the weapons (retroactivly) or ONLY people that have glitched weapons already will be able to compete... and running old patches is laaaaaaame
