Regarding The PC Customization Glitch in IL's

Should it be allowed? I mean, it's pretty awesome someone's taken down Sahelanthropus in 22 seconds, but I feel like it's discouraging more inventive means.

France

This matter is still on going. We didn't take any decision about that. If you want to use it do it in ANY% Has we will probably ban this glitch in ANY% S Rank and above category.

How the hell I am supposed to compete against your_name_here on mission 31 :< ...

Newfoundland, Canada

And how is a pc run supposed to compete against any run that uses the companion app to call a helicopter? Which, by the way, more people should be doing.

Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Say that to my crappy Windows Phone. Pretty sure I can't do it with it. Argument invalid anyways!

Newfoundland, Canada

The argument is simply that there isn't really a means of making PC and Console runs on par with each other. It sucks that you can't compete with a run that uses PC only strats, but really, console and PC runs are different and should be considered differently.

United States

The argument for me isn't console vs PC. It's glitch vs glitchless. Especially if the glitch ends up being fixed in a patch (which it probably will be).

FWIW, I don't think it should be allowed. There are skill-based glitches that can add to a game's skill/strategy (like using the horse to clip through a wall) and then there are glitches that just break certain segments of a game. To me this is the latter. Therefore if accepted, it should at least be its own category.

That's just my opinion though.

Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

I use a glitch on my run, check it out if you want, the fight is shorter than a normal one, and at least everybody can do it. For now. But I don't think they will bother patching the solo, it looks like they simply don't care.

Yes, pc and consoles are different. Just don't like being 2nd on a category because I just have no chance to beat the 1st one. Anyways :) !

Germany

I like to differ. Consoles and PC are not that different. Let's just implement that nobody is allowed to use the companion app and let's ban the costumization glitches for good measurement (because you know, 100 round silenced rocket launchers are kinda lame Kappa )

In all other fields Console versions and PC Version are exactly the same time-wise. After all, console players have been able to beat my phantom limbs time numerous times and maybe will again now that I got my 2:39 on it ¤shrugs¤

Since I started speedrunning I disregarded glitchy games that exceed the good amount (a few in my head) by producing runs that are one big string of glitches. So far the horseback glitch is fine for me, if the Sahelanthropus mission sticks with the customization glitch that's fine for me too, I'll just not run the mission then.

Switzerland

ban pc only glitch

ban app

Switzerland

^this

either allow or ban both

France

Enemies placement being display by the compagnion app is untrackable.

Newfoundland, Canada

I certainly would not want the companion app to be banned. It feels silly to ban tools that are a part of the game game just because they introduce version differences.

And, I feel like if someone wants to run a game while using the companion app, it should not be excluded from the website.

Switzerland

its not really "part" of the game though... its an additional app outside of the game... its not even running on the same device as the game...

what does this app even do? is it really such an advantage? if it is... do we really want runs where half/some of the "action" isnt even in the video but irl where you cant see it? how bout people that dont have a smartphone (HAH!) or just a shitty smartphone... should they be excluded from being competetive?

i really doubt this app gives such an advantage that everyone would wanna use it... the only thing i can think of is calling a helicopter while riding/driving... and that saves like what? a second?... seeing enemies on the map isnt really that much of an advantage (at least for IL runs) since you usually know exactly where the guards are

i feel like anything that in all of the games should be allowed... anything else shouldnt... so if both pc and console had the app i guess you could allow it (i wouldnt) but right now it isnt fair to allow stuff that the other platforms dont have (unless you split the leaderboard, but thats a bad idea)

France

Well spliting the leaderboard isn't that much of a bad idea tbh. It got his pros, and cons

Pros being, not have to deal with every single issues about a platform (related tricks, advantage, glitches) as right now (Glitch VS companion app etc.).

Cons are Leaderboard get messy, and it's an huge pain in the ass to check what the best time for a ILs and does not repressent anymore who really is @ the first place or is the fastest.

has right now, you can look up and see that the leaderboard, is competitive for every platform . Should that change ? I don't think so.

Again there is pros & cons. I think that leaderboard shouldn't be change atm. But it would also be fair to switch it form for a platform filtering as we don't know what kind of glitches might be found in future. But for that matter we can always end up changing it later when it become a real issue.

Sweden

I'd say allow it on any% categories, they're already pretty much entirely silly anyway, may as well go full blast.

Newfoundland, Canada

I can understand banning the weapon glitch from higher categories, as those are meant to be challenge oriented, so removing something that eliminates some of the challenge makes sense. but, banning the companion app purely for organizational reasons doesn't make sense. A PSNK run that uses the companion app wouldn't be diminished for using it, it just wouldn't waste half a second on the pause menu at the start of some levels to call the helicopter. If one version of the game is missing a feature, that shouldn't stop everyone else from using it. We're running the game as it exists, it's up to us to reflect that, rather than ignore features which don't suit us.

As for splitting the leaderboard, right now, there's not much different between PC and Console on most levels, and the leaderboards are still able to show you the platform records, albeit in a more hidden capacity, which I think is fine, because the casual viewer probably doesn't care about the difference, and it allows us to directly compare times when there isn't a difference.

United States

It's pretty common for games to ban glitches. Every speedrunning community has to deal with these questions at some point.

We've already established what allowing this glitch detracts from the speedrunning the game -- consoles can't do it and it creates some absurd runs on some of the levels.

But let's frame the question another way, "What does keeping the glitch ADD to speedrunning the game?"

This is the difference between the horse-clipping glitch and this. The horse-clipping glitch ADDS a dimension of strategy and execution to running the game. As far as I can tell, the weapon glitch adds nothing. Just detracts.

Switzerland

^^ this ^^

killing the "main" boss of the game in 22 seconds is kinda broken and has nothing to do with skill... also ONLY pc players can do it. i feel like that alone should be enough reason to not allow it.

i also dont think we should allow it in any%, if we ban it we should keep it consistent... any% is a fun categorie to run, lets not exclude console players from running it.

Sweden

Daily reminder that version differences never exclude other consoles from running, just from being the fastest (oh the humanity)
