You don't have to climb the ball-holder structure & pillar - you can use rope, go up casual way and then roll off the ledge to force Croft to grab it. Make sure she is far enough to the right before dropping down.

Tested on PC, with VSYNC ON/OFF. On video way inside the boss fight and out of the boss room are shown - you still have to do the fight to progress the plot.
