So I've managed to come up with a consistent way of beating 1-2 in an any% run without having to do both pipe lip jumps. My question is related to optimal time in the level. I know the goal is to finish the level with 346 remaining (not going for wall clip); however, how does it play out with regards to frame rules? Is it a good strategy for people new to running the game for example? Below is a video of what I've come up with.
Yeah, that's what I usually try to do as I'm not the greatest at pipe jumps. I'm still pretty inconsistent, but that's just me.
In almost all instances, it isn't fast enough to save the regular framerule
Thanks Eddiecatgaming, that's kinda what I suspected as far as the framerule goes.
I imagine (as I am a medium ability runner), that this is a good way to practice the lip jump, and it saves time vs. Just waiting which is why many new players do. Faster than not doing it if you're trying to improve time. But not a wr alternative
@AlphaDeltaHD My intent was to help new runners by showing that it's possible to obtain a 346 end time in the level without needing to do the second pipe lip jump. As far as WR goes, I should probably point out that I have NO desire to even go for a WR attempt. That wall clip to go into the warp pipe room in this level is pretty ridiculous as is lol. You've got me wondering though just how close a player could get to the optimal frame rule if they did this strat plus the wall clip. Anybody want to take that one on? 1, 2, 3, not it!
Also, my initial goal with speed-running this game was originally to see if I could beat it faster than it took a bartender at my favorite local pub to make me an old fashioned. I managed to pull that off in October so my next goal was to beat the game in 5:30 or less. Then 5:20, 5:15, 5:10, and so on. Now I'm just trying to go for as close to 5minutes as possible.
One major hangup in my current skill-set is fast 4-2; I struggle badly with doing the elevator bump in that level. I've even tried the strat of hitting the coin block by the mushroom block but when I do that I fail to turn in time to do the backwards bump. It's a blemish on my record that I'd like to remove in the future lol
Effective immediately, any submissions using the SNES9x emulator will not be verified. The SMB1 mod team has concerns about its integrity due to its ability to overclock and remove lag frames, which may not be easily detectable. Additionally, we request that all BizHawk submissions avoid using the S
