FFX PS2 JP (Banned skips)

Hi, I want to run the JP PS2 version soon and I wonder why most of the skips are banned? Also are you going to add Clasko skip since all the other ones are banned pretty much? Clasko isn't listed so it would be nice to pre-emptively add that to the rules in case you want to ban it after I do a full run. I don't want to waste my time running with a skip that is going to get banned.

If there are any skips allowed please state which ones. JP probably needs more clarification. I am trying to get WR if possible and I want it to be clean.

Its not allowed.

The reason the skips are not allowed is because the original JP leaderboards did not allow them either. I don't agree with the Skip's being banned but they are.

Thanks! I'm fine with the skips being banned, but make sure to add it to the rules since Clasko skip isn't listed as of now. Basically no skips allowed then. I like it (no need to worry about failing a skip).

On another note. Since this category is POWER ON - THE END you guys are aware that setting a fixed time at the beginning of the run is allowed under these rules. Just a heads up to anyone if you want to ban time manipulation like setting date to 1999 at the start before inserting the game. There are no rules banning this as of now. I am just bringing attention to the flaws of the ruleset for FFX JP as of now so you guys can fix them. :)

  1. Power On Console
  2. Change Time
  3. Start FFX

Technically that's still part of Mi'ihen road, (you capture mi'ihen creatures there, not MRR) so the rules saying "Mi'ihen skips" bans all 4 of the possible Mi'ihen related skips.

I'll add some clarity to the rules but yeah essentially all skips are banned, so even if there is a new one, it'll very likely be banned too.

As for timing, yeah you can change the system clock if you want to, but for JP that'll eat into your time a little bit. Though you could probably simply do

  1. Power on
  2. Change time
  3. Power off
  4. Insert game
  5. Power on + start timer

I'm not sure what you want to change the time for though. Have you managed to achieve RNG manipulation on PS2?

Alright, thanks.

I understand that it would waste time or be a little bit tricky. It is possible, but if you mean getting no encounter armor from a new game would require to play all the way up to that point every time. You can do smaller time saving strategies like seeing the first 3 damage numbers in the New Game if you try to start from the same date/time every time until you get one that you are familiar with since before and like. Meaning you get 2/2 drop with Seymour crit or something. At least you go back and try to replicate that RNG seed by noting how much damage you deal in the beginning and reset if you didn't get the same seed.

Luzbelheim did tests the other day where he got the same seed a few times using a metronome, so if you mean RNG manipulation is possible on PS2, yeah sure. I don't know if the odds are 1/15 or 1/30 per second. So trying to get no encounter with a 1/30 in a second chance is not a good idea mid-run, but at least you can find a good seed for encounters (like many pre-emptives, good drops and damage). At least you won't be running with RNG in mind. You know everything that will happen. It's like you get a 2nd chance running with the same RNG seed if you start taking notes on the date and time you run with.

My idea for how manipulation would be quite accurate in the future:

  • If someone eventually gets a really good RNG seed, then someone can make a sound file where you hear a beep 3 times in succession and you press on the 3rd time you hear it to confirm the date/time.
  • Then it waits a few seconds and another 3 beeps starts when you are going to start the game or console.

If this is only allowed in the JP version, then I guess we will have fewer runners to find a good RNG seed for this game. At least eventually it will be possible if everyone shows their startup/manipulation and then gets lucky one day. We will always be able to go back and replicate it. The first time I run with a date would be random of course, but every time after that if I want to get the same I can just restart until I get it.
