D&D: Heroes: Animation Cancel Guide

Animation cancelling is simple in concept, and outside of fighting Bulette is easy to pull off.

On D&D: Heroes, there is a sub menu that allows us to view and change our moves and thrown items being used. When we access this menu, D&D: Heroes stops what the Hero is doing and slows down the gameplay so we can change moves/thrown items if necessary. Knowing this, we can cancel moves at the end of the animation to make using the move and then moving around or using another move quicker to pull off. E.g Using one Rod of Fire then cancelling the throwing animation to use another Rod of Fire

Before starting ANY RUN, remember to go into the options and turn ‘Slow Action Menu’ off. This will stop D&D: Heroes from slowing down gameplay whilst we access the sub menu to cancel out animations.

Timing is of the utmost importance with this strat, since doing it too quickly will cancel out whatever move or item we’re trying to use altogether and doing it too late won’t cancel the animation at all.

The basic method is as follows:

-Use move/item e.g Rod of Fire
-Hit RT/Right Trigger near the end of the animation to cancel out a part of the animation
-Rinse and repeat if necessary

The best place to practice this is either in or before the Bulette fight, AS SOON as you see the Rod of Fire leave Akios’ hands, cancel the animation and throw another one. Another good place to test is in the Market after duplicating the Tome of the Pupil to unlock Hide and Move Silently and Sweep Finisher. Go back outside of Castle Baele and practice on the Hobgoblins outside, and even go into the Swamp and practice on Hobgoblins and Trolls

D&D: Heroes: Door Hopping Guide

Door Hopping is the most recently found strategy and allows us to bypass or ‘hop’ over any barrier/locked door with a physical plain or ‘playing area’ behind the locked door. Whenever a 2nd player is spawned, D&D: Heroes spawns that player in the air, as if they’re on a 2nd story above the 1st player. However, when that 2nd player moves, they get pushed down onto the playing area. Knowing this, we can utilise the spawning system to skip certain barriers/doors, and as a by-product, a large portion of the game. This includes the quests requiring us to gather the four Jewelled Sceptres, as well as three of the four Planar Gem areas.

The steps/method for Door Hopping are as follows:

-Position player 1 as close to the centre of the barrier/door you’re trying to bypass as possible.

-Spawn player 2 on top of, or as close to on top of player 1 as possible.

-Leave party as player 1, then respawn player 1 either on top of player 2, closer to or above the barrier/door.

-Leave party as player 2, then respawn player 2 either closer to, or above the barrier/door.

-Rinse and repeat, once you are either on top or slightly past the barrier/door.

-Once you appear to be over/on top of the barrier/door, you should only have to spawn/respawn players 2-3 more times, depending on the barrier/door.

Keep in mind the above steps are contextual to a best case or good scenario. D&D: Heroes is programmed to always try to spawn each player in a playable area, meaning just trying to get player 2 on top of player 1 can take multiple attempts. Also, whilst this strategy applies to each barrier/doorway, they are all different to an extent. Also, you ABSOLUTELY MUST save the game after picking up any of the essential items gathered in the speed run, otherwise you’ll lose said item and won’t be able to complete the run efficiently.

D&D: Heroes: Item Duping Guide

Item duping, or item duplication, has been a major part of every speed run on D&D: Heroes for a while now. As the name suggests, we take an item that we want a certain amount of, and we duplicate it to reach that amount e.g. Duplicating 1x Health Potion to 12x Health Potions.

Since D&D: Heroes has a system in place that allows us to save a character and then spawn that character as a 2nd/3rd/4th player, we can easily duplicate the items we need for the run.

As mentioned above, Item Duping is as simple as saving the game/character with the item we want to duplicate, then spawning said character as a 2nd player.

The items that need to be duplicated for use in the speed run are:

-Health/Will Potions (will=mana): Found at the beginning of the run, duped for necessary use throughout the run. Will potions get duped often so moves can be used.

-Raise Dead Amulet: Every new character/player starts with one, initially sold for Rods of Fire, then duped in Bulettes’ Lair to prevent game overs throughout the run.

-Rod of Fire: Found in Vasaks’ shop at the beginning of the Middle Crypts. Three are bought after selling 20x Throwing Daggers, 1x Fiery Oil and 1x Raise Dead Amulet. Duped for killing Bulette, killing Trolls in Market, clearing enemies in Great Hall and killing Gargoyles/Skeletons in Shadow Spire areas.

-Ring of Meditation: Found in Lower Crypts, just before Silver Skull gate. Duped for selling to then buy items that grant Strength multipliers.

-Tome of the Pupil: Found in Treasury Hall, behind a gate that leads to a pathway, which leads to an area containing a Soul Shard and the 1st Jewelled Sceptre. Duped to unlock Hide and Move Silently, Sweep Finisher and Volley of Arrows.

-Berserk Brew: Found in a hidden area in the Barracks, used to double all damage dealt in battle. Duped for any battles after Barracks.

The method for Item Duping is as follows:

-Save as Akio
-Load a 2nd Akio as player 2
-Give item being duplicated to 1st Akio
-Leave party as 2nd Akio
-Save as Akio
-Load a 2nd Akio as player 2, we’ll now have 2x of item being duplicated
-Give 2x item being duplicated to 1st Akio
-Leave party as 2nd Akio
-Save as Akio
-Load a 2nd Akio as player 2, we’ll now have 4x of item being duplicated
-Give 4x item being duplicated to 1st Akio
-Leave party as 2nd Akio
-Load a 2nd Akio
-Give 4x item being duplicated to 1st Akio
-Leave party as 2nd Akio
-Save Akio and continue

The above method applies to the duplication done after grabbing the Berserk Brew in Barracks.

In Bulettes’ Lair, we duplicate 12x Health/Will potions, 13x Ring of Meditation, 24x Rods of Fire, and 4x Raise Dead Amulets.

For Tome of the Pupil, we need to duplicate to 18x Tome of the Pupil initially for Hide and Move Silently and Sweep Finisher, then later in the run 80x Tome of the Pupil for Volley of Arrows. A similar method applies but instead of duping/saving to 4x Tome of the Pupil, we dupe/save to 6x, then duplicate without saving to the 18x Tome of the Pupil we need. Will potions and Raise Dead Amulets are also duplicated here.

D&D: Heroes: Moves Guide

HIDE AND MOVE SILENTLY: Hide and Move Silently is a move unlocked after grabbing the Tome of the Pupil that we use for moving around each area without being detected by enemies. This makes moving in the fastest direction and setting up for Door Hops a lot easier to accomplish. 80 level up points/8 Tome of the Pupil are required to unlock Hide and Move Silently.

SWEEP FINISHER: Sweep Finisher is a move unlocked after grabbing the Tome of the Pupil that we use for fighting certain enemies and Bosses. 100 level up points/10 Tome of the Pupil are required to unlock Sweep Finisher. Finisher moves provide several frames of invulnerability and Sweep Finisher specifically has a chance to poison enemies.

Any%: Used for killing Gargoyles and Skeletons in the Shadow Spire areas. At this point in the run we are only at level 6 at the highest and need to level up to level 8 before we can use Volley of Arrows against Kaedin. Level 8 is the lowest level we can be to use Volley of Arrows, since we don’t have enough Willpower otherwise.

All Bosses/All Quests: Used against Yrthak in the Nature Gem areas.

VOLLEY OF ARROWS: Volley of Arrows is a move unlocked throughout the run that we used to fight certain bosses. The lowest level Volley of Arrows can be used is level 8 since we don’t have enough Willpower before then. 800 level up points/80 Tome of the Pupil are required to unlock Volley of Arrows.

Any%: Used to fight Kaedin at the end of the run.

All Bosses/All Quests: Used to fight Lich/Beholder/Kaedin I, II and III
