Item duping, or item duplication, has been a major part of every speed run on D&D: Heroes for a while now. As the name suggests, we take an item that we want a certain amount of, and we duplicate it to reach that amount e.g. Duplicating 1x Health Potion to 12x Health Potions.
Since D&D: Heroes has a system in place that allows us to save a character and then spawn that character as a 2nd/3rd/4th player, we can easily duplicate the items we need for the run.
As mentioned above, Item Duping is as simple as saving the game/character with the item we want to duplicate, then spawning said character as a 2nd player.
The items that need to be duplicated for use in the speed run are:
-Health/Will Potions (will=mana): Found at the beginning of the run, duped for necessary use throughout the run. Will potions get duped often so moves can be used.
-Raise Dead Amulet: Every new character/player starts with one, initially sold for Rods of Fire, then duped in Bulettes’ Lair to prevent game overs throughout the run.
-Rod of Fire: Found in Vasaks’ shop at the beginning of the Middle Crypts. Three are bought after selling 20x Throwing Daggers, 1x Fiery Oil and 1x Raise Dead Amulet. Duped for killing Bulette, killing Trolls in Market, clearing enemies in Great Hall and killing Gargoyles/Skeletons in Shadow Spire areas.
-Ring of Meditation: Found in Lower Crypts, just before Silver Skull gate. Duped for selling to then buy items that grant Strength multipliers.
-Tome of the Pupil: Found in Treasury Hall, behind a gate that leads to a pathway, which leads to an area containing a Soul Shard and the 1st Jewelled Sceptre. Duped to unlock Hide and Move Silently, Sweep Finisher and Volley of Arrows.
-Berserk Brew: Found in a hidden area in the Barracks, used to double all damage dealt in battle. Duped for any battles after Barracks.
The method for Item Duping is as follows:
-Save as Akio -Load a 2nd Akio as player 2 -Give item being duplicated to 1st Akio -Leave party as 2nd Akio -Save as Akio -Load a 2nd Akio as player 2, we’ll now have 2x of item being duplicated -Give 2x item being duplicated to 1st Akio -Leave party as 2nd Akio -Save as Akio -Load a 2nd Akio as player 2, we’ll now have 4x of item being duplicated -Give 4x item being duplicated to 1st Akio -Leave party as 2nd Akio -Load a 2nd Akio -Give 4x item being duplicated to 1st Akio -Leave party as 2nd Akio -Save Akio and continue
The above method applies to the duplication done after grabbing the Berserk Brew in Barracks.
In Bulettes’ Lair, we duplicate 12x Health/Will potions, 13x Ring of Meditation, 24x Rods of Fire, and 4x Raise Dead Amulets.
For Tome of the Pupil, we need to duplicate to 18x Tome of the Pupil initially for Hide and Move Silently and Sweep Finisher, then later in the run 80x Tome of the Pupil for Volley of Arrows. A similar method applies but instead of duping/saving to 4x Tome of the Pupil, we dupe/save to 6x, then duplicate without saving to the 18x Tome of the Pupil we need. Will potions and Raise Dead Amulets are also duplicated here.
