If using Gambatte-SR under Settings > Video, select any of the Video Filters. This does not actually change the timing at all - it's purely visual that the screen goes black abruptly instead of fading, but the time between pressing hard reset and the game booting up is identical as is any game behavior involving the hard reset timing with respect to saving the game or anything else. I forget how to change this in GSE - I kind of prefer the look of the fadeout so I never edit mine on emu. (Also, good question - I had the same question/concern a while back the first time seeing this.)
Emulator is not banned. The latest release of Gambatte-Speedrun and the latest release of GSE on GBP mode, with a GBC bios image are both allowed console-accurate emulators. Going to lock this thread now though since it is very old and this is all answered in Game & Category Rules.
People on controller use https://gamepadviewer.com/ and add it as a browser source in OBS after doing custom mapping if needed. Getting A and B swapped and having extra A and B buttons showing is done by just adding more browser sources from gamepadviewer and moving/cropping them together to sort of make it look like it's just one capture.
If you haven't already watched the RBY Manip guide, be sure to watch or rewatch: https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnredblue/guides/9oea2
Also, to second what glitchy is saying - hold A longer than is intuitive. You do not need to release A before the next tile (unless you are performing consecutive A presses one tile apart). Normally just press as long as you want as I tend to do here just releasing some time before the next A press is needed:
The latest release of Gambatte-Speedrun and the latest release of GSE on GBP mode, with a GBC bios image would work and are allowed for speedruns. All other emulators are banned for speedruns, but some still do function properly. Regular Gambatte, BizHawk, or BGB would be fine for glitches, but mgba probably not. 3dsvc is also not ideal due to inaccurate emulation causing rng manips and probably glitches to be different.
No, it is not allowed for the leaderboard. Whether or not it is emulating doesn't matter too much (though I think most of us do see it as emulation), the big issue is that RNG Manips that work on GBP, GBA, (and GBC) will not work on the Analogue Pocket which implies that it's not behaving the same as original hardware from power on. So it is not accurate enough for the LB. As far as I know, this issue applies to all FPGAs that are out there right now. Under Game Rules you can see the full list of allowed hardware and links to the two approved emulators. You can of course practice on Analogue Pocket if that's how you enjoy playing - I'd suggest sticking with the manipless / "Classic" category in that case though since manips won't work right.
Yes, that would mean that you do not have the correct NidoranM. All three "good" nidos from the manip will have 57 Speed @L25 from their E / 14 Speed DV.
Have you been checking Stats at L6 and then at either L8 or 9 according to HP?
You can take a look at these notes here if this is not familiar to you: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dBLH0rrgtL0GFJjuQvw3DGkXStdmLtSmuE9YCgROkm8/edit?usp=sharing
L23 Stat check for reference ATK/DEF/Speed/Special - not really an important spot to check stats typically when starting out or even intermediately but just including so that you can see they all have hexadecimal "E" = 14 Speed DV
- 47 def/48 spec is FBEF ("15 special")
- 47 def/47 spec is FAEE ("14 special")
- 46 def/47 spec is F9ED ("13 special")
I'm not too up on the new Any% Routing, but I think this is the most recent glitched route https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Rd3huUjUlqjLkNTRmZEj1l-6_6PEcjzVSF5lDh8P4TU/edit?usp=sharing
Good question! So PP management is definitely the hardest part about this challenge. Using the PC to replenish PP and/or heal HP is not allowed (it's mentioned in the category rule-set).
If you catch more than 6 Pokemon, then I would recommend depositing to make room for the new party member prior to catching them so that you do not run into this issue.
For example, if I have a full party of 6 and catch a wild Pidgey at full HP who gets a Gust off against me, then that Pidgey is no longer use-able since it used 1 Gust PP that ends up being replenished by the PC.
However, if you have a full party of 6 and you Master Ball the Snorlax at full HP or catch it with any ball before he uses any moves or takes any damage, then no rules would be broken if you wanted to withdraw this Snorlax from a PC (but it may be faster to have planned ahead and deposited a party member that you will no longer be using).
Lastly, I think that it would be fine to deposit and later withdraw a Pokemon who has full HP and full PP on all moves (I do not think this is ever useful to do though). By contrast, depositing a Pokemon who either does not have full HP or has used PP on a move would permanently make that Pokemon no longer use-able.
If you haven't checked out Crrool's run of No Centers / No Marts on Crystal version - you may be able to borrow some of the strategies since they are very similar games: https://www.speedrun.com/pkmngscext?h=No_Centers__No_Marts&x=wk6nqmp2
When you say control are you pressing ctrl on your keyboard? This might be causing the emu to do some unrelated function. I’d advise against having ctrl mapped as your select button or any button for that matter.
You want to press the buttons you have mapped for “Up”, “B”, and “Select” all at once on either your keyboard or gamepad. If you do this on the title screen it will prompt you to clear save data.
Though SGB2 is allowed, rng manips will not work properly on SGB2. If you have a PC, emulator is a great option. If you prefer console, then yea you want a Gamecube with the Game Boy Player attachment - then you need to either setup Game Boy Interface software for the best quality output (GBI-SR) or you need the official disc (GBP). You can typically find a gamecube with the GBP attachment w/ no disc included and then follow this guide to setup GBI-SR https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_L4Fq1oTLlR2rNgW0jC3hddr0uFb3ezNIQQohE4uTwc/edit?usp=sharing
No, sorry - 3DS itself does not accurately emulate red/blue anyway so it is instead a category extension https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnrbext?h=3dsvc-any-glitchless&x=5dwzp9nd-ql6yr9w8.ln834rjl but even to be eligible for this leaderboard you would need to be playing on original unchanged hardware on a 2DS or 3DS. Unfortunately, the games are not even available for purchase anymore on 3ds so i don't think there is much of a future prospect for gen 1 and 2 having active leaderboards for 3ds - this is just my opinion, and ofc anyone who wants to speedrun for fun on any platform should totally just do that cause why not :)
No, only gambatte-sr https://github.com/pokemon-speedrunning/gambatte-speedrun/releases or gse https://github.com/CasualPokePlayer/GSE/releases/latest are allowed w/ a gbc bios.
The mobile emulator https://t3boy.vercel.app/ has been allowed for a trial period just pay attention to the rules and/or join the discord to double check. And GSE is a relatively new and updated version of gambatte https://github.com/CasualPokePlayer/GSE/releases/tag/v0.3 - GSE should work on Android. Otherwise either GSE or Gambatte work for PC. Other emulators are just not accurate enough or have debug features that are not ideal for enforcing leaderboard rules.
Hey, you can find the patch here: https://github.com/gifvex/pokered/releases/download/aaaa/redblue-aaaa.ips
The best option on Android is the latest release of GSE (currently v0.3) https://github.com/CasualPokePlayer/GSE/releases/tag/v0.3 on GBP mode, with a GBC bios image. If GSE does not work on the device, then the relatively new mobile GB/GBC emulator t3boy https://t3boy.vercel.app/ with a GBC bios image is accurate and allowed on the leaderboard currently for a trial period.
You will need to get the GBC bios and the game itself on your own. We are not allowed to provide any help regarding this.
Hey Griffon and Golderzoa, I recommend asking in the PSR Gen 1-3 Discord in #rb-category-extensions to get an answer faster. I linked this thread there a couple days ago, but join or rejoin and follow up. SRC forums tend to go unnoticed and all communication is really done on Discord now for PSR and there are also a lot of helpful resources on Discord so that’s a plus:
Should just need to react in the rules section, then you're able to access the channels in discord.
Hey, you will likely get an answer much faster if you join the PSR Gen 1-3 Discord and ask there instead. Forums on SRC are not used as much anymore. It is linked at the top of this page beneath "Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen" and next to the link for Category extensions.
Hey, so depending which emulator you chose to download this may look different.
In the video, Alan is using Gambatte-Speedrun <PSR> r717 with a GBC Bios image. If you hard reset using Ctrl + R or the button/key you mapped to hard reset, then good ROMs for red will display "Reset r717 9F7FDD53". The other indication that your ROM is correct for any PSR game is that the top border of the emulator will read: "FileName.gbc <PSR> - Gambatte-Speedrun (r717)". If the "<PSR>" does not show up then you either have a bad ROM or you downloaded the generic version of Gambatte instead of the Speedrun Version. These images can be used as reference: https://imgur.com/a/fda9PjP & https://imgur.com/a/PJupxlt
If you chose to use the new GSE, then just scroll down on each imgur above and you'll see that the checksum displays at the bottom border instead. By default no string shows up upon hard reset on new GSE. You must either capture the bottom border for the entire run or you can disable the bottom border in settings, which will then cause the string to show up on hard reset.
If this does not answer your question, please join the Discord https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnredblue/forums/se2sp and post a picture/video in #emulator-help and we are happy to help troubleshoot. (Please note that if your ROM is faulty, then you are on your own to find a good one since we cannot assist with that on SRC or on Discord)
