My way of doing it is to grab him as soon as I can (i.e. as far left as I can). That way, when I throw him, he won't land on the stage, and will usually jump. If I time my run from the throw properly, I can get to the edge of the main platform on time to grab him as he jumps. I then run off the main platform as I throw him.
If you are having problems with the re-grab, making the first grab sooner seems to be more consistent for me. Also, if you do grab him late so that he lands on the stage, he can be grabbed after landing, when he "bounces". You can grab Link from the main top platform at the height of his bounce on the lower platform.
If you are having troubles with the attack after the second throw, jumping and using a down air would be more consistent than the forward air move that some runners use. It's a difference of a few frames, so using down air instead of forward air really isn't that big a time loss.
(down air being the aerial attack that happens when you press down on the control stick and then press A).
Hopefully this helps <(^o^)>
There is no skill or previous knowledge required to run the game. I've seen 3 or 4 man races on SRL where several runners had never played smash 64 before. Obviously the more knowledge you have of the game, the easier it is to go fast, but skill and knowledge are not required in running this game, and just by running the game, you'll gain knowledge of the game naturally.
Which character are you trying to use? Different characters have different outcomes. (also what difficulty?)
Looking into this a little more, the only thing that concerns me with sub-categories is that I believe we lose the table format. It ends up being better organized, and easier to go from one category or sub-category to another, but at the cost of the table format.
I might be completely wrong, and the table format may still exist, but if not, we will have to decide which one we'd rather keep.
That sounds great to me. The only change I would suggest to what is said above is having the "version" as the first sub-category, then followed by the "difficulty". The versions are completely separate games as far as the speedrunning community is concerned, so having that as the first sub-category makes the most sense. Most people will be clicking on their version, and then swapping between the difficulties from there.
Thank you for this suggestion, and welcome to the smash 64 community <(^o^)>
I made Pokemonmaster888 a supermod, and unmodded myself.
I'm sorry for all the trouble that may have happened while I was a supermod.
I missed the last 2 posts here somehow...
As Ghillie said, the last 3 aren't actual speedrun categories, and I just put them in there as a joke while making categories. Though I guess I can explain the three of them...
Tri-Attack is an actual challenge we've done. Prime made a ton of challenges, some legitimate, some questionable, and that was one of them. So, when we were bored, wanted to do something, but didn't feel like doing anything, we did Tri-Attack attempts. It was a fun way to do nothing, maybe practice techskill, and just generally fool around while talking with each other. That said, so far, I'm the only one to have successfully completed it... :p
Luigi Wins by doing Nothing is self explanatory. It's not a speedrun, and was more of a meme than anything. I added random rules to make it look like a category (and so that Master Hand was 'possible'), but... well, doing nothing is not a speedrun Kappa.
RaccAttack... well, just look at the rules. I actually crashed the category for making the rules have RaccAttack too many times, so now I can't edit it, and I think the only way to change that is by deleting the category (which I'll do along with the other two once everything is transfered over). Anyways, RaccAttack is an emote we spam very often in our chats, if that explains that :p
Anyways, hope that helps out :p
When we transfer a run to the new leaderboard, should we delete the run on the old leaderboard? I think we should, as it will help us figure out which runs have not been transferred over yet.
We are finished our changes, so submit your runs here.
I missed your post (forgot to refresh). If I understand correctly, you're saying that essentially character and difficulty should be swapped?
Alright guys, I submitted 'test' runs to the leaderboards to get an idea of what it would look like. It seems the individual character table shows the top run for that difficulty/character category, while clicking a square/cell brings up all the runs for that category. The long categories are set up similar to the last leaderboard.
What are your guys's thoughts on this?
Also, is there anything on there that you think needs to be improved or fixed?
For now, while we edit and change the leaderboards, submit runs here:
http://www.speedrun.com/ssb64old
once we finish the leaderboard changes, all runs will be submitted here.
I have not done any testing yet. I had time to play around a bit with it, but I have no idea what this layout will turn into.
For the time being, at least while we are making the core changes to the leaderboard and creating it, I will leave myself as the only one able to edit the leaderboard. The reason for this is because I think if two people try to edit the leaderboard at the same time, one person's edits may be lost. So just to be safe, I'll make myself the sole mod. Once we like how the leaderboards are set up, and we won't have to worry about deleting each other's stuff, I'll add mods.
I tried putting some categories in, and I ran into a set-up that may actually work very well for us. I am going to leave it as it is for now, but it is something we can definitely change if it's something we don't like. Oh well, we're experimenting and theorizing for now.
For a reference, the old leaderboard can be found here:
Lets keep conversations about creating or changing the leaderboards here for now.
I'll let the melee speedrunning community decide who should be a mod/supermod (I don't think I should be making that decision myself), so if the community is ok with you being a mod, then I'll do that.
So I just noticed that I have the ability to mod/supermod people, as well as remove people/myself as a mod (I have never looked into that, as I have never really seen a reason to do so). So that said, who should be the mods/supermods of this game? I can set it up how you guys want, then unmod myself afterwards.
Again, sorry for the confusion, I have no idea how or why I was a mod/supermod to begin with, and never wanted to be one for this game.
So that said... who should be the mods/supermods of this game?
