Ah, nice to know.

I'll try to setup something later, but I'm pretty sure (and please do explore) you can't sort by high score. I'm not sure if there's a way where individual scores can be displayed, but I think this is a caveat with speedrun.com.

Alright, sounds fair so far.

Is there a difference between easy/normal/hard mode for how scoring is done? I've only ever played hard mode and submitted a hard time (which I'll return to someday soon... I promise. xD)

I think I'm more in favour of a time cap, but I'm not sure technically if the high scores can be displayed by omitting time. Check out things like Wrecking Crew (26000 points) Tetris (300000 points) for example and how they do it on their boards. There's a set score (which is the category name) and then all results are sorted by time. What would a "good" score for this game be? Maybe 2 million or 3 million? Perhaps that could be the name of the category (and objective) and from then, endlessly farming doesn't matter because maintaining a good time will play a bigger role.

So what happens when someone takes too long on spawned enemies in boss fights? I think the only thing I don't like about about an honor system is it will inadvertently create divide between submitted times. Say someone DOESN'T farm, is slower, and has more points than someone who does farm, has less points but is faster. How do you rank them against each other?

Maybe before I speak to them, you could create a very concise idea of what you want the new category to entail? That way, at least then I know what I'm talking to them about. xD

Ah, I don't mind alternate categories as long as they produce decent runs. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense me to add a category where all runs will take 9 hours because people want to max out points. But, let me talk to either crack_atak or herpderp about it and we can figure it out. I'm not entirely opposed either as long as it creates runs that are decent. :)

I recently had this game approved. I hope more people have the chance to pick it up and add it to their repertoire. To start, I created 3 main categories: easy%, normal% and hard% reflective of the difficulty options in-game.

I have serious doubts anyone will run this except myself, but I hope folks stumble upon it and enjoy it as I did! I just scratched the surface of the flexibility of movement and suction in the submitted hard run, and it'll be neat to see how this game evolves as more and more people pick it up and optimize it over time. As it stands, my hard run is a barely optimized and nearly deathless play through. No TAS strats or anything of the such were implemented. Tech in it is very day 1.

Any questions? Feel free to ask here or message me directly on Twitch!

Thanks for checking this game out!

It legitimately is an awesome community. Just in general, and especially in niches. Retro for instance is amazing and one of the best internet communities I've ever met online. :D

Yeah, I think the categories should be separated.

I don't understand why they're not, because running the Japanese allows for death abuse since you can set your lives at the start and a totally different route that can't exist on the US version. That alone should separate them, and that's not even including if there's differences (like between enemy numbers and stuff) as I don't know yet - only started running it yesterday.

Also, I'd really encourage maybe some new rules to be written to simplify confusion. :)

  • SDA timing (time starts on control of the turtle and ends when you lose control of the turtle).
  • That any% easy and any% normal are two different categories (since currently normal % is default and easy% is tucked away under misc).
  • Whether or not adjusting stock in different categories is okay, etc.

I tried out two runs yesterday and was legitimately confused about what the difference between the US and Japanese version were, if the default categories difficulty was easy or normal, and whether or not setting lives to 7 was considered okay, etc. My two cents anyway.

I routed and ran it a few times. My first initial clear was 2 hours and 28 minutes or something due to an incredible difficulty spike in the last stage. I routed it and ran it deathless and submitted that time for now (26 minutes) with plans to come back after getting sub 11 in Batman - which actually just happened a few days ago. It is indeed fun and a great little platformer! I'd check it out as it's one of the more solid platform games I've played on the system, but then again, it was handled by Taito and I think we can all agree for the most part, they knew what they were doing during the NES days when it came to platforming goodness. I look forward to exploring it more. :)

What do you guys run?

Made a quick tutorial that explained the basics behind most annoying enemies (sans scorpions) on how to quick kill all the bosses we know how to do as of 2017. Hope it helps out new runners.

Note: this was made for the Japanese version in mind in particular, but unless it involves different height dive kicks, or a change of direction of special attacks, anything there you could do in the NA version as well.

Batman on NES and probably Batman, still, on NES.

I run TMNT2(J) sometimes though and I'm getting that stupidly optimized. Dropped the previous 2nd place time by 4 minutes now. (33 -> 29).

Hello all! I run Batman on the NES, Wild Guns on SNES, TMNT2(J) on NES and routed Flintstones: The Surprise at Dinosaur Peak, TMNT3 and a few other games I don't have runs submitted for. I started streaming on Twitch about 200 days ago, and despite using this website almost equally as long, have never really posted on the forums.

I look forward to meeting more of the community here on the forums. :D

It's probably hard to balance as organizers nostalgia goggles and feelings about modern gaming. Everyone remembers playing Mario as a kid, and are more akin to watch multiple runs of that instead of a 6 hour Diablo 3 run despite likely infinitely playing Diablo 3 as an adult. Regardless, it's always a neat time to see and watch some games if you're not familiar with running at all. :)

Hey, nice to see someone else from Alberta! Good luck with everything you do! =D

Yeah, guess I should have specified better. I run a few games and sometimes it's taken like 19 days, etc, and I never think twice about it, but they have moderators that log in way more frequently than 2 months and a year, respectively. I've never submitted to a game before where it had visibly inactive moderators.

4 days, but the two mods of the game (up until today) hadn't logged on for 2 months and one for a year. The one that didn't login for 2 months logged in 4 days ago, so I'll try to message him. Thanks you two. :)

Canadajunkyard_dave8 years ago

Nice! Adventures of Batman and Robin is legit tough, so a speed run of that would be neat to watch. :)

Good luck on all your future runs!

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask:

But if a run is in submission limbo and taking a vary long time to get verified, presumably because the moderators of the game aren't active anymore, who should I try to contact about it?

[edit]: I'M NOT A CAVEMAN I ACTUALLY DO HAVE MANNERS.

Thanks in advance. :)
