"although looking around I don't think they want any more categories at the moment because of the number of categories without any runs or only a few runs."

Yea there's a handful of categories that are just kinda there. The junkertown bike one seems ok. Very meme-y haha. I thought about it some months ago but never really brought it up. If it were added, it'd be put here: https://www.speedrun.com/overwatch_category_extensions

To add new categories, show us a run of it, along with some possible rules and we'll consider them!

"a 4 man all maps co-op category" -- pretty sure we have this already in category extensions.

The stubbornness to actually make some of the rules clearer for those people who actually take the time to read the rules is quite disappointing, seeing as the main reason they don't wish to change/update them is because "a lot of users [...] don't read."

We don't do pvp-based categories since so many things can affect a run... Tons of RNG, players smurfing, friends being on enemy team to "help" etc.

Hey, we have lots of other categories that were added that ended up not getting much attention, and we'd like to keep that from happening. So for now, we decided to not add this category. If there is a huge amount of interest, we might reconsider.

@Habreno you made lots of great points! I stand down on my remark that speedrunning is an indirect form of pvp. But tbh that wasn't really what I was trying to get across, or the main thing I was talking about.

"PVP-based games will not be accepted" - I am totally cool with this rule. The only issue is that the rules (regarding pvp) are too short, vague, and lack some sort of clear reasoning/explanation. It doesn't have to be a paragraph, it could possibly even be condensed down to 1 sentence. Mention that pvp-based games need a story/campaign mode, and/or that these rules will not be applied to pvp games already on the site.

I see a lot of sass and sarcasm from people responding to runners who've had their games rejected and wanted some clear reasoning as to why, rather than just "no pvp." There's no need for that, and although some people still might not read the rules, I feel that it would help and reduce spam.

"Are you hearing yourself right now?"

Are people not competing against other people? That's what the leaderboards imply? Or do speedrunners not compete against other speedruners for a better time (PVP / player vs player)?

And to be honest, kinda petty to choose that small bit, since we're trying to bring to light that the current rules regarding this subject could be slightly modified to be better understood, especially since current reasons and rules are not mentioned there.

"I mean, its not like it explicitly states in the rules that "PvP-Related Activities" are not allowed..." -Lonne

I think you failed to read the rest of what I wrote. People still keep submitting and posting because the detailed reasons for rejection and details over why other pvp games are still on the site are not mentioned in the rules.

"PVP-related activities" is generic and vague and will continue to cause confusion, especially when specific runs (for pvp-based games) are done solo or against bots, not against other players. PVP = player vs player. If you wanna argue that it prepares you for PVP, then speedrunning in itself is pvp since you are directly competing against other players for a top time.

Also, Overwatch was mentioned, saying that we have pvp categories, but in fact none of our categories are pvp. They are all done solo or as a group. Never in actual pvp matches. Shooting a bot does not necessarily make it pvp-related, seeing as there are other shooting games that are PvE (you vs bots) - for example Doom, Resident Evil (not a shooter, but you shoot zombies from time to time), etc.

It should be explained further in the submission rules because the rules are vague. People keep submitting pvp games and posting about it because the rules are not clear and vague. They could mention in their own words that: they no longer accept pvp-games even though they did before; that pvp-based games already on the site are fine and will not be removed; that series mods can add pvp-based games to the site as long as they are not troll submissions (based on what I've seen in response to these submissions); and that in order for a pvp game to be accepted, it has to have some sort of PvE campaign or story mode.

"Why does a WR in a game with less than 10 runners get labeled as “basic”?"

This was just an idea with a random word for a beginner tier in regards to a hypothetical rating system for WRs. Other factors can definitely be taken into account. And what you mentioned about optimizing a non-popular category did come to mind, I just didn't type it out. It's very subjective I suppose. True, showing the number of WRs would be better if anything like that was ever implemented.

thread: The Site
California, USAdripping4 years ago

The display for specific WRs could take into consideration how many runs/runners there are for that category. Basic would be less than 10 runners, and really notable WRs could be in a category that has more than 1000 runners, etc. I think it would be cool.

Download the beta version from the game's steam settings

Seeing as Grounded is in Early Access and the developers expect a 2021 full release, plus the current best run (yours maybe?) is about 3 minutes, I doubt it'll be accepted currently. I also requested an Early Access game a couple months ago, and that game has half of its content available, making it around a 30-40 minute speedrun, but it was rejected. They just said to wait til the full game is released.

I probably have 100s of favorites, but here are 2:

While originally a Joy Division song, it was later re-recorded as a New Order song. First heard it in 2011 in a interesting phase in my life that I'll cherish forever.

Post Malone ♥ A couple years ago I went to Japan with 3 of my friends and I would play this song on my phone almost every day. We went all over Japan, what a trip.

I requested this game on day 1 of the beta.

Basically, they won't accept anymore pvp-based games whose categories will mainly consist of Training/Practice Range/Tutorial or non-story/campaign. The games that are already here in the database are fine, but new games will not be added. In order for this type of game to be accepted, it needs to have a story/campaign mode.

I suggested that they make it more clear in their rules in regards to these types of games to avoid people wasting their time (people are still requesting this game) but it was too much to ask for apparently.

Pretty sure this has nothing to do with the minecraft community specifically. LiveSplit is hidden if a game is put on full screen. You can see it if you put the game in windowed or borderless windowed.
