It shouldn't make that much difference as long as you used the same version of Shadowplay. I'll check what version mine is because I got it about a month ago. You could always try Bandicam. That works on my laptop. Are you using the Steam release of Thief Gold or the CD version?
I actually got a new 1060 recently and have the latest version installed. You can actually use OBS if you don't mind some HUD stuttering.
Only if I record using Shadowplay unfortunately. It's just not reliable on anything else I've tried so far.
Not sure if this is the right place to post here but here it goes:
On the IL leaderboard for Tomb Raider (1996) tied records do show but they seem to eliminate second place and count from 3rd onwards heres a picture so you can see what I mean:
I did look into the game settings, but I couldn't see anything wrong but I'm not very experienced to tell the truth.
Could one of the current active mods please verify my runs? 2 of them have been pending for over 5 days now.
I'm getting some strange HUD flickers when the recording lags, will that make a difference to the runs validity?
Edit: Managed to sort out this in the end. Turns out, you can actually record the game using Nvidia Shadowplay, in full 1080p as well.
After tinkering with some settings in OBS I managed to record the game with no issues by changing the following:
-
Using monitor capture.
-
Recording the game at 30FPS (The HUD flickers if you record at 60FPS).
-
Disabling Windows Aero.
As the menu cannot be recorded with the OldDark engine and OBS won't record the game I guess I won't be able to run this game. I guess that depends if DXTory will record the menu. I'll buy it and test it out. What method would you suggest in recording the OldDark engine in a way that could be verifiable on SR.com?
Surely you would be able to compare the video time with the time provided to ensure it was the correct time. But you could only get an indication rather than an exact time I suppose.
I have managed to record a run using the OldDark engine, but I cannot get Fraps to record the menu of the game.
So if I recorded and uploaded a video of a completed run and I provided a screenshot of the IGT of the same run, would it get rejected?
Digging into the old speedruns I have found some pretty interesting glitches. There is no way I'm going back to the NewDark engine now. I can record the original CD version of Thief: Gold and The Dark Project if I use Fraps I lose a couple of frames if I record in full 1080p but 720p works flawlessly. Will be uploading some runs soon.
Fair enough, I was unaware of any issues when I played the TDP 4-5 years ago. Guess I'll have to dig out my old CD to play this one.
Can I submit runs of certain levels of Thief: Gold? With the exception of The Lost City, Thief: Gold is virtually The Dark Project with three extra levels.
Are their any other major differences in terms of actual gameplay besides the climbing system in the NewDark Engine compared to the old one? The only problem I can see with using the NewDark engine is what it does to "A Keeper's Training" map, creating a 15-20 second timesave. You can switch it to the original map provided by just dragging and replacing the "MISS01.OSM" and "miss1.miss" from a retail copy making the time save in question impossible.
I believe that the game should be run using the Old Dark Engine as it allows for skips that should not be possible such as out of map glitches on The Keeper's Training. If users cannot play the original game however, a new category should be allowed for such runs, or at least link to some patches that could make the game possible to use as close to it's original state as possible.
A guide from an advanced user can even be attached to the resources page to help people setup the game for modern hardware to make running the game the same for everyone. I am more than happy to create such a guide. I'm going to start another thread to nominate you as the Thief: Gold and Thief: The Dark Projects moderator, the games SR.com page is in such a horrible state. That is if you want to moderate it, since Thief 2 has a great SR.com page which I can only assume was created by you since the other mods are inactive.
Recently, sirbittle uploaded a run of "A Keeper's Training" while having the TFix mod applied. Does that mean that Tfix is allowed to be used in the making of runs for both Thief and Thief: Gold?
Thanks for replying, I honestly didn't think anyone would. So no one knows? How long has this series been on SR.com?
Hello,
I recently started playing this game again aiming for 100% completion, as I really enjoy speedrunning I thought about perhaps running the game.
Is the game worth running? By that I mean are there any large skips, complicated glitches, AI manipulation etc throughout the 3h run?
Would be at all possible if you could change my name to Assassin please?
Thank you.
Hello BekirGames,
Do you fire when you airwalk? Typically where there are enemies present? When you fire to airwalk when there are enemies around Lara tends to lock on to them until she is out of range or the animals are dead. You can either start airwalk without firing with the Advanced Hold control type, or you can switch to manual to stop aiming at enemies automatically.
