I’m so glad you created this very important and relevant thread.

It depends entirely on the game’s community for whatever ROMs you hacked onto the console. However the general consensus is that modding a console to do something like that is banned because the ROMs you’re playing on it aren’t native to the system itself so there is no gaurentee that it’s being emulated properly.

It depends. For example, to use a Chinese iQue here in America I had to buy a converter that changed the 220V coming out of my outlet into 120V (or the other way around I don’t remember right now) so it didn’t fry the system. I bought it years ago so I’d have to refresh my memory but it wanted a different voltage and amperage to properly power on.

I don’t know if a PAL PS2 needs anything like that, you’d have to search online or find someone who has imported PAL before. Another runner of a game you’re looking to run will probably know if you need anything special.

Purchase a PAL PS2, a PAL game and a voltage converter if necessary so you can actually power the console (this is necessary for some older consoles, idk if it applies to PS2 so you’ll have to check)

Really not much to it. If your question is “where do I buy it?” then idk, eBay or something. Wherever you like to buy imports from. Just search around and I’m sure you’ll find plenty of sellers.

The platform is allowed. It’s comparable (maybe even better in terms of input delay) than an emulator on a computer, but it can’t match up with real hardware. If you’re just starting out though, it’ll work just fine.

Yeah that happens frequently when the Patra is close to a wall and is in its “attack pattern” if you will. The wide range of the attack make’s it go through the walls and out the other side.

The attack is screen scrolling :p

EDIT: stupid auto-emoji

It might only be for broadcaster, I don’t know much about anything related to gamecatser. I know know that I never got gamecaster to work (only broadcaster) and I’ve heard from someone sponsored by xsplit that broadcaster is the better option for the majority of people.

@Askover this is a last resort thread for when moderators are unresponsive and you have runs a waiting verification or you need to reach the mods for some other reason. Any moderator requests when there are active mods on a game need to go through them.

Super Mario Galaxy, like most of all of the Super Mario games and most large series in general, have very active moderators. You’d need to ask them to mod you but you probably will not be modded by them because I don’t think they need help.

Oh wow, interesting watch. Thanks for making that.

Technically you don’t even need a timer on the screen at all (unless the game has bad rules and lazy mods). As long as you submit a run with an accurate time, it doesn’t matter whether you use splits, just a timer or an old fashioned stop watch to time it.

I know the NES Classic runs slower than an actual NES (it loses 1 second every 10 minutes or so if I remember correctly so it’s not horrible if you’re just starting out). I don’t know if anyone has ever timed out the SNES Classic in the same way (maybe it’s not slower, I genuinely don’t know) but it might be slower overall even if it “feels” better than a regular emulator.

Use XSplit Broadcaster, it’s better for streaming in my opinion. As for how to add Livesplit to the stream, it’s as easy as just adding it to your layout.

You’ll have your layout in XSplit/OBS, so all you need is Livesplit running then you can capture it as an application/window capture and it’ll show up in your layout for all to see. In XSplit I know you can use a window capture and when you click the capture icon (a red plus sign like thing) it’ll automatically select Livesplit in its entirety for you so it stays to scale and on the layout regardless of where it move it on the screen.

Some randomizers have been run in the past using a set seed (like OOT Beta Quest) however those categories are usually put on Category Extension/Meme boards because they are mostly silly and not taken too seriously.

Is a strawpoll really the best way to handle this lol. I’m pretty sure anyone with half an understanding of how to use proxies can throttle that, but ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Regardless, I don’t know what this poll hopes to accomplish. By posting it here publicly there is no guarentee that all of the votes coming in are from the ALTTP community or people who understand the situation. Literally any of the thousands of users this site has can come in here and vote for whatever option they want.

As for the actual topic, from my knowledge no definitive proof has ever been presented that showed this run as faked. I’ve seen claims of “luck” and things like that and a long reddit post that said it might (key word) be iffy but no actual proof against it. Without that actual proof I’m not sure how the run can be removed regardless of what this poll says.

(Didn’t vote FYI because I think this method is lame)

I’ve seen it on at least 5 threads today, both the site forums and game forums. I think I saw it on the moderation request thread but that seems to be fine now. Doesn’t look like it’s an “all the time” issue, maybe it only shows up when the previous page reached its limit.

EDIT: I’m blind, still happening on the Moderation Request thread too.

Sometimes threads have blank pages at the end. For example, I see the “Series/Game” thread in The Site as having 20 pages. However, the 20th page is blank and all the posts stop on page 19. Maybe related to the forum bug that happened last week, idk.

I’m also on mobile right now for what it’s worth. I’ll double check at some point tomorrow to see if its on desktop too.

Yeah, just like with any moderation issue, if a mod is abusing their power in any way, report it to a full mod or admin and they will deal with it. Part of being a moderator is a degree of trustworthiness, so most mods won’t intentionally violate rules for games or series.

Also, not sure what you mean about rules regarding submitting ILs. ILs are a game by game basis and have nothing to do with series moderators.

I’ll start with the easier question - no, splits I/O is optional and is there if you want to share your splits. It’s not required.

As for the 100% question, yes, 100% should be it’s own category. It should consist of collecting “everything” in the game. How you define everything is up to you. Some games define it as everything on a pause menu or everything that is not consumable. As long as it can be measured in a clear way, it’s up to you and the community how you define 100%.

As for the timing question, most games follow Standard Western RTA rules which means that timing starts on first input (like selecting a file to play on) and ends on last input usually not including text boxes. So last input on a boss or movement if you will.

For your own knowledge, there are some other timing methods that are used in some communities. For example, the Japanese community times from console power on to when the words “The End” or their equivalent appear on screen. The SDA (SpeedDemosArchive) method of timing was from gaining control of character to losing control. The most popular is the first one I mentioned though so I’d use that.

Hope that helps.

@ShikenNuggets Game.com is a handheld console from the late 90s, it’s an actual console, not a website for playing games https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game.com
