Sorry, thought when you said “Old Skool” you meant original. Now I see it’s a brand lol

I mean, original hardware is always the best way to go - 3rd party stuff is bound to have various issues except in some edge cases. I’ve personally never tried 3rd party NES controllers so I don’t have much input on if any of them are worth while.

You can do whatever speedrun you want to do, regardless of what the LB here has for categories. If you want to request a category, having a recorded video of your run will help your cause.

Yeah, if an original NES controller is having dpad problems, you probably just need to clean it and/or replace the rubber under it.

That idea is...well not good. Some games have no loading screens, loading screens that take almost no time or cutscene skips. That means for all those games, doing that random input would lose you a lot of time over the course of the run especially if you get nervous and forget it.

Plus, what happens if you start a run at like 10:50pm and by the time you finish it’s 12:30am. Now that run is completely invalid because the random sequence changed. Now you’re punishing people for the times they stream at.

Also, time zones really butcher that idea too because each time zone will be affected differently unless you standardize it at 12:00 across all time zones (very hard).

EDIT: just thought of something else - people can use so many different controllers on PC, especially with emu. Not every controller has an A button or an X button so not everyone can do the same input unless you account for multiple controllers.

There’s also games like Pokemon that rely on holding inputs during loading screens and other places in order to manipulate RNG. So doing this would actually sabatoge the game and ruin the run.

^ that. Also, you can’t just remove old runs that violate new rules. You can’t punish someone for not complying with rules that didn’t exist when they submitted their runs; there’s no way they could have known what the rules would change into.

This thread is checked once a week on average and kirkq last checked it 4 days ago. You posted 3 days ago, have some patience.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this thread is checked even less than that for a bit while the site re-does it’s moderators and gets itself in order again (in case you don’t know, the site’s full mods all stepped down so admins and content mods are pulling double duty for a bit).

I agree with Gothic in that I can’t think of a good way to make bounties very visible on the main site without attracting people who want to abuse it. Obviously as much proof as can be provided should be and it would have to be up to some very strict analysis, but a concrete solution is hard to come up with.

Bounties and speedrunning have gone hand in hand for a while so it would be neat to see a “hub” for them, but avoiding those who want to be dishonest will be hard if someone really wants to cheat for money.

EDIT: maybe some guidelines would help mitigate it. Something like if it’s a glitch bounty, if it can’t be replicated with your video then you can’t claim the money (although I see a lot of arguments coming from that). Not sure about WR bounties because there’s only so much you can do.

@MaxCash Sniping is a mod for LoL and he is active on Twitter and Discord. I’m not what issue or pending question you have with the LoL community/LBs but you should reach out to him. Radion is also active on Twitter, so I’d contact him too (even though German is his native language he still should be able to help).

I don’t remember when I created my account so I might reach 4 years this year. If not this year then I’ll hit it early next year.

Can’t believe it’s been that long already.

I don’t know why I found this so hard to answer lol.

To me, an LB is a place to historically track runs of a game over time. It’s also (obviously) a place to compete with others to post the fastest time.

To me, what’s on a LB is anyone's run who wants it there. I know this has been the concept of debate in the past because some people treat LBs more seriously and feel that every run should be on there for accuracy. To me, I view them less “strictly” (even though accuracy is important and nice) and more about just having a place for people to submit who want to. Some people don’t want to submit for various reasons and I don’t think they should be there if they don’t want to.

That last point is where I imagine everyone sees it most differently. This is also way too meta for my brain after a day of work OpieOP

Just setting up the boards here doesn’t accomplish anything without proper syncing and this has been explained to you before.

Having two distinct group of mods - those on MMRTA and those here is not a good idea because if they don’t see eye to eye on something then there’s going to be arguments and other problems. Plus it would cause confusion among new runners about which LB is accurate and up to date. The two best solutions would be to have the same mods for the most part (Zelda did this between here and ZSR, but the MM community is less apt to use this site so it’s not really possible). That means the remaining best solution is the sync.

I know it’s frustrating not having an update, but especially now as the site re-does it’s moderation team, an update probably won’t come for a little while. With all do respect because I know you and others care about this, the site’s moderation team is more important than this sync.

The pointless comments wouldn’t be the issue so much as the trolling comments. This site gets enough bots as it is (though it’s actually gone down in the past 6-8 months), now imagine if those bots could post comments on any run. Now couple that with the toxicity that is often on YouTube in the comments section and you can understand why it would be a moderation nightmare (for site full/content mods and game mods).

It’s genrally assumed that the forums and discords are better for asking questions (or even using a person’s social media links). The bad outweighs the good for implementing something like comments on runs.

I don’t know why you’re bringing this to the main forums because nobody outside of the 3D Zelda communities will know what you’re talking about.

Also, the OOT community already had a like 3 week long discussion/debate on this and voted to allow them. So if you want to talk to them about it you’re better off in the OOT forums or in the OOT discord.

I feel like reducing 2FA to “just a cheap afterthought” doesn’t really do it justice and it’s a naive way of looking at it.

HDK is correct that a lot of 2FA only shows up after the initial password is correct, however, to just boil it down to that is bad. Most sites will auto lock your account after so many failed attempts (usually 3 to 5) so brute force just won’t work, regardless of 2FA.

Additionally, if you enable 2FA that alerts you some way like via text, that’s an incredibly helpful indicator that something is wrong with your account. Recently, an account of mine got compromised because someone had the password I used for it (it was a bad password). I got a 2FA text and knew that I didn’t access it. This saved my ass because I went and immediately changed the password on that site and every site where I had a similar password.

In that case, the “hacker” was back at square one not knowing my password. This is why 2FA matters to people - it’s helpful to monitor their accounts to make sure nothing shaky is going on. Obviously it’s optional to use it so nobody has to, but an option for it is always nice to have. Granted implementing it isn’t always easy, I’ve done it for work before, and it’s probably not high priority for a site like this, but I feel like asking for it isn’t unreasonable.

Regardless though, the point still stands that if someone really wants access to your stuff for whatever they’ll find a way. And if the site DB is compromised then 2FA won’t do anything. But I think to just dismiss 2FA in such a way doesn’t do it justice because it is a very helpful thing to have the option of enabling.

Antarctica has been on the site for as long as I’ve been here. I don’t know whether it was added as a joke or not.

Also, since apparently it wasn’t obvious, I was joking in my post. I donated $10 already to get the normal donator perks and to support the site so that was the joke.

It’s almost like the people who run/maintain this site do it in their free time and sometimes development moves slow.

I won’t bash you for your opinion, but I’ll bash you for being rude as fuck about it.

Wii emulation is notoriously inaccurate, I don’t know many games that actually allow it unfortunately.
