If you're looking for a more detailed timer, use LiveSplit. It has so many features and customizations that I couldn't list them all. You can mess with it and setup a layout that works for you/is unique to you.

What ROMaster said is pretty much spot on in regards to submitting an RTA run here.

But I noticed you said you're making a TAS for the game. This site currently doesn't support the submission of a TAS, the website you'll want for that is http://tasvideos.org

There you'll find tons of resources on TASing, but they do require you to provide a video of the TAS itself in order to submit it. I think they might also provide guidelines on the specs they want in regards to encoding and such. I'd recommend checking out all of the info there if you're interested in getting into TASing.

I'm not 100% sure but I think a lot of people use a widget from some other site/program to show chat messages without directly capturing your twitch chat from the website.

For example, I know streamlabs has a widget for twitch chat which might be what your referring to - it shows the messages without a background and to can put that widget on your stream in OBS (streamlabs has guides).

I'm not 100% sure this is what you're looking for or if the streamlabs widget behaves exactly that way because I don't use streamlabs or any widgets like that. I'd recommend checking it out though to see if it is what you're looking for. Otherwise you can try to find the color of the twitch chat background and chroma key that color out of the screen capture of chat to make it transparent.

Always check with the mods of a game to make sure emulator is allowed.

Dolphin can run faster than console (and I believe it might have some optimizations in it to allow for quicker loads for example) so it might not be allowed for all games. Even if the rules don't explicitly state that emu is banned always double check so you don't get blindsided by a rejection.

But to answer your question of why emulator is sometimes banned, it's because for more recent consoles (PS2, GC, Wii, even N64 with some releases) emulator runs and loads much faster than a real console like I mentioned before. This gives emulator an advantage and so it is often banned or put into its own Misc. category.

EDIT: just looked at the LBs for Mario Kart Wii - I went to submit a run and it said under the console selection box "Emulators are banned" so that answers your question explicitly.

Yes we do, you can find the invite link on this page http://zelda.speedruns.com/discords

That page also has just about every other Zelda speedrunning discord server if you want to join others.

Yeah Mekarazium is correct. All you need is a video program that shows the length of the video in frames (I use Avidemux personally). Then you find the first frame where the run starts and the final frame where the run ends.

As an example, if I have a run that starts on frame 15 and ends on frame 4015, I would do 4015-15 and divide that by the FPS of my recording which is 29.97 for standard def stuff. That'll give me the total seconds of the run and then I can just use basic math or any online converter to turn it into the standard hh:mm:ss format.

Every game has moderators. Those mods are the ones who verify every run submitted for that game. Sometimes the run is verified in a couple hours, other times it can take days. It all depends on how busy the mods are.

Since it's only been a couple days, SpiderSponge is right - just have a bit of patience for now.

Hope that helps.

Firgure out what kinda info you want I have in the stream. Once you know why you want to display, you can start to mess with positioning of it.

A personal tip I follow and recommend is that simpler is better. Don't go crazy with graphics or text or shrink the gameplay too much since that is the primary focus anyway.

I have the design skills of a potato so I can't offer a ton of tips, but it's honestly a lot of work to find something you really like. Just keep trying things and look to others for examples of something you might like for yourself. Just tweak it a bit to match your own unique style if you do that.

I'm not familiar with that timer, but as long as it works it's fine.

Timers simplify some timing things, but they are hardly required, you can speedrun with any timer or no timer at all. All that matters is that if you don't use a timer you have a way of accurately getting the final time of the run afterwards (like frame counting it).

Looking at the LB I think the resubmission resolved this, but in case I'm blind or something, have Zykrul post here https://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/g3wb6 and ask to have the run associated with his account. An admin will attach the run to his account when they check the thread

Lmao.

This isn't SDA or Twin Galaxies, VHS is not how you submit runs anymore. Just post the video online (preferably Twitch or YouTube) and submit the video link when filling out the "submit run" form on the game.

I have no clue why the game mods need to ask or get permission from the series mods to add categories to a game. Kinda defeats the purpose of having game mods if every request like that has to be funneled up the chain to series mods.

Sounds like lazy moderation by the game mods or something weird going on with them. If the series mods really really need to have a say, it shouldn't be your job to get an answer out of them, it should be up to the game mods to go to them with your request.

Unfortunately I can't offer any advice other than going back to the Sonic Generations forum and tell them that the series mods aren't responding to you and you need one of the game mods to reach out to them. Hopefully then they will know the best way to contact them and can get the request handled.

On mobile, if a user puts a link in their forum posts it messes up the boarders of the message so text appears offscreen.

You can still view the whole message by turning the device sideways, but it's just a minor annoyance.

Not having game sound is an easy way to get your run rejected. Maybe not at first, but as you get better times you should always have game sound.

While technically not required, listening to game sound is a common way to detect spliced or cheated runs so a lot of mods prefer if it is there, especially if you're submitting high level times.
