It's not possible, no.

But I'd recommend bookmarking games that you visit frequently so that you don't have to scroll down to find the forums for a game. It'll make accessing them much easier and quicker.

You can edit any run you submit, if you click on the run you'll see 3 dots in the top right corner of the page. From there you can delete or edit the run.

And yes, any edit made to a run (even something as minor as a description edit) will result in needing the run to be re-verified.

Depends on what consoles you're trying to capture. If you're trying to capture consoles in standard definition using composite or s-video then a gv-usb2 is the best capture card for that.

For capturing in HD using hdmi you have a bunch of options, but for the best quality you'll want to get an internal capture card (I've personally heard good things about elgato internals). It should be noted that HD capture cards are much more expensive ($40 for gv-usb2 vs $150+ for an HD capture card). External HD capture cards are cheaper but tend to have slight delay so factor that in as well.

I'll never understand why people delete their OP for a thread, it essentially makes the entire thread pointless/useless since nobody knows what was originally asked or being discussed. Don't create the thread in the first place if you're just gonna delete the OP a couple hours later.

Sonicman2005, did you miss what kirkq said to you?
Sonicman2005: Another user with a pending run asked first.
You'll notice that Smelly_Mctroll asked prior to you and they were modded for the game. If you want to be mod you'll need to talk to them about adding you since they are now the active mod for the game, but since the game is pretty quiet, I'm sure they can handle modding the game on their own.

Doesn't matter what game, on every LB for every game there is a "Rules" button in the top right corner. Click on that to see the rules for the category.

I'm confused, if you know what consoles you're trying to capture and you have the retro adapter, what's the issue?

A search on amazon or really any website that sells cables for "composite cables" will come up with dozens of cables. If you're looking for cables to come out of the console, then you just need to add the console name in front of that search. So like a search for "SNES composite cables" will give you plenty of results. Just note, 3rd party ones can be sketchy and kinda bad so try and get brand name (Nintendo or Sony) when possible for the most reliable performance.

SNES, N64 and GC can all use the same cables. PS1, PS2 and PS3 can all use the same ones as well. The Wii has its own cables. NES and Atari 2600 primarily use RF instead of composite, but the NES can support video and mono sound if you use a composite cable (just a standard one, nothing special needed).

HD capture cards tend to only take HDMI although some take component as well. So, if you have an Elgato HD capture card you cannot use it to capture something from say an NES or a SNES without an upscaler to convert the composite to HDMI.

If you're looking to capture retro consoles and don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on an upscaler, I recommend you get a gv-usb2 capture card. It's only around 40 USD so it's not super expensive.

Instead of creating 3 boards, have you considered adding a variable to the categories that allows you to choose the platform? An example can be seen here https://www.speedrun.com/khfmhd where there is a variable for PS3 and PS4 since the two consoles aren't comparable for that game due to loading differences.

You could do that for the 3 consoles for your game to split them up without having to create three individual games and boards for them.

Just an idea I figured I'd throw out.

Dragster became popular because Omnigamer reverse engineered the code to show that the fastest possible time the code allows is a 5.57, which means that Todd's 5.51 was either faked or the result of a hardware malfunction (both should invalidate the time). With this knowledge, someone opened up an official dispute on Twin Galaxies for Todd's time using the Dragster TAS and Omnigamer's testing to say that Todd's time should be removed.

That led to everyone scrambling to get fast Dragster times to hunt for the 5.57 to show that Omnigamer's tests were correct and partly to spite TG who had a lot of members defend Todd's time while showing a lack of understanding on what a TAS is. The dispute has like 900+ posts on the TG website if you want to go lose some brain cells.

Wrong thread, you're looking for this one https://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/be179

If the games are not on the site, you need to request them at https://www.speedrun.com/requestgame

When requesting games, please allow 2 weeks or even a bit more for them to be processed (the admins are a little behind right now).

Rule #1: Don't be an idiot. Rule #2: Don't get banned.

Following Rule #1 will help you a lot in following Rule #2.

I think BSNES is banned for most SNES games but I'm not 100% certain (might be getting that confused with ZSNES). You can ask the game mods in the forums just to make sure but you're better off using a version of SNES9x higher than 1.43 as that's one of the more common emu choices.

Good luck with your runs.

Dragster is like most Atari and even NES games - easy to learn, hard to be very good at. Not quite easy runs, especially at high level, but if you're looking for an easy "one and done" run they aren't too bad.

AntarcticaTimmiluvs7 years ago

In case you need more details:

In Game Time - the time a game shows at some point (end of game, end of level); the game's internal timer.

New Game - starting from a fresh, never played file.

New Game Plus - a file that allows a playthrough with some kind of bonuses like unlocked items or skills or other things that make the run faster/easier/shorter than a New Game run.

Im pretty sure the series loading page thing has been mentioned before, but yeah, I'll second that as an issue/question. My browsers on my laptop end up telling me a script is unresponsive whenever I load a series page so I've abandoned going to them at all because of the loading delay. A fix for that would be awesome.

You asked for what we think was the first speedrunning game was and I answered with Doom and Quake as well as the sites used to track those early runs. What did I miss lmao

The earliest known websites dedicated to speedrunning that I personally know of were Doom Honorific Titles which was launched in 1994 (it obsoleted the previous website LMP Hall of Fame) and the original use of Speed Demos Archive (SDA) was for Quake runs. The original site by Radix (which was dedicated to runs on the Nightmare difficulty) was launched in 1997 I believe and in 1998 it was merged with another site to form SDA which then slowly began branching off into games other than Quake.

Granted those are just the earliest sites I know of that had speedrunning brought to a more "formal" light. There are plenty of stories of kids in the 80s racing their friends to see who could complete various NES games the fastest and I'm sure there are people even before that seeing who could beat high scores on arcade games or whatever other home game they could get their hands on.

The funny thing is that both the MM LBs and the DKC LBs existed before this website, so they have every right to choose to continue to use their websites over this one. Yes it can be annoying, but their communities have every right to not use this website fully, it's not like srcom owns speedrunning and it's leaderboards, people can use and support whatever website they want to. One centralized website for all times would be great but it's just not a thing right now. Mega Man links to their own website so that there is no confusion about Mega Man speedrunning and people don't think that it just doesn't exist - they want runners to know where the times, resources and community is located. Acting like they are committing some kind of crime by "advertising" or "soliciting" their own website is just plain silly and misinformed.

Also, the irony of you complaining that they are forcing you to use their websites while suggesting that the solution is to force them to use this site is great.

It's not a big fuck you, its fairness and consistency.

If computer hardware makes an emulator run faster then you're basically saying "spend $2000 to be competitive in this game" which is just unfair to do and will stifle competition. This is the biggest thing that drives PS2 era and later games to often ban emulators.

Some games do have emulator only categories (I think some of the PS2 FF games do), but that is a case by case basis and depends on the demand for it. Other games just ban them because they are inconsistent even with a strong computer and anything that can have that much variance in performance doesn't make sense to allow.
