I don't really see how could be used in a run, but nicely found.
I've been thinking of a death wrap for a long time, but never thought of it that way. Nice discovery. ;)
So I worked on this a week ago but having some problem with my PC, I couldn't make the video, so here it is.
Pretty much self-explanatory, but basically it's just an idea for damage boosting on "Grigori's Tower". First with damage : Easy but requires one additional heart (= 3hearts total if you plan on doing the damage boost in "The Guard"). Then without damage : slightly harder as it's almost pixel perfect (but once you get the timing right, it's not that hard) and does not require any additional heart to do it.
Bonus : a small compilation representing about a fourth of all the ghost jumps I got where it didn't hurt me... Just to show how "easy" it is to do it once you get the timing right.
Looking at some of the Top 10 latests submitted runs, I've seen a somewhat considerable struggle on this part : people where usually waiting to be safe and avoid getting shot by the brute, so I wondered if you could jump just high enough to shoot a TP but low enough to drop back down before the brute's shot hit you. Without any surprise, it worked. But it felt faster, like really faster, so I decided to time it and compare it to the old strat (but the risky variation of the old strat).
Here's what I got : on average, you're about 1s faster with the new strat, whatever variation you use.
We're 5 for now, and it's not an excessively active group.
Yeah, some people (not sure how many and who were they) runned the desura version (that launched in 2012 if I remember correctly) and, as for the clip, it's not present in the steam version.
I'd love to be able to TAS the game just to experiment this kind of thing ; I believe in a TAS environment we could be able to do this...
Though, I tryed to TAS the game months ago using Hourglass, but I couldn't make it work with OTS... :/
That Quintuple is incredible. :o I wonder if you'd be able to go all the way to the top of this bluebeam and above "Double Jumping"...
And one more strat I'll never be able to implement in my runs. :'( I've been trying this for way too long and couldn't land it. GG for landing it. ;)
EDIT : spent 40 minutes on it and landed it only twice... -_-'
As promised, here are the ideas I got to ease up your 4blocks jump. I note them on a scale from 1 to 4 : 4 being the most difficult (yours), 1 being the easiest.
So here's 1 (very easy, similar to a 3blocks) :
That's 2 (medium difficulty, we could say it's equal to a 3blocks and half) :
3 would be the same but with a red beam to prevent you from just using the teleport gun as shown above (therefore, it would still be a 4blocks, but you would not have to focus on both teleportgun and movement at the same time).
And 4 is yours. Obviously, there's a few other ways to change this jump. ;)
ps : As I said on Skype group, I'm working on other custom levels, I'll try to make a small dozen before I share them (I already have 3 and a half).
Second Christmas this year ! \o/ That's some exciting news ! The biggest sprite looks really badass. :)
Do you think about implementing a level creator ? (I'm sure Natos would love it. ^^) Also, please keep the in-game timer. It's a simple thing, but probably one the things that made OTS successful in the speedrunning community.
Also, I'd like to know : did some of the strat the speedrunning community came up with inspire you for OTS2 ?
I'm interested ! :) I know Abbys didn't run since Ghuia got his WR back, but he might be interested for a race, I'll talk to him if he doesn't reply to this post. Same goes for ChrisJahim (not sure he made a speedrun.com yet, so I'll contact him via twitter and give his answer on this thread for him if needs be).
Also, I made a Skype group : here.
Yeah, I know about abbys' run, I talked with him about it last time I met him in Lyon for a small 3man race (talking about race, we should do some, seeing how many runners we are, it could be fun. ^^). And that's mainly the reason why I was wondering on the time save... I don't know if it's worth it to implement such high risk/not so high reward strats in my runs for now...
Tryed it and I liked it. ^^
Though, that part where ghuia had trouble in his run near the end with the 4blocks high vertical boost... it's killing me... I spent 15minutes just doing this room and only managed to land the jump 3 times... :'(
Also, the elevator glitch ghuia talked about, it's really frustrating... I died the first time I entered the room and stepped on it.
As for the visual aspect of your custom levels, I didn't find anything wrong beside what rezoons talked about. And for the OoBs, I would keep them, the one in the first room is interesting for speedruns imo. As for the one ghuia talked about, maybe just add a room above with a collectible.
One last thing : I contacted OTS dev's, and Amora seams to like your project : https://twitter.com/amora_b/status/680836868502609920 ;)
ps : I'm gonna be a dick, but Ghuia, your run ain't pacifist. You destroyed the ships in the beginning. Kappa (And yeah, if you remember my attempt to make pacifist% a category, you can call me salty ;) )
Gonna dl it and give it a try if I have time, but I guess I'm gonna ragequit, some rooms use techniques I've never been able to pull...
