there's a Eolis Password leaderboard already and I've been verifying runs for it lately.

Good news: the leaderboards look cleaner now, the main categories are based on True Demon Ending, any%, New Game+, or PC glitched, with difficulty as a subcategory.

The bad news, every run in the other categories vanished into the archives and I can't find them. I restored all the Orphaned runs for Normal any% and True Demon Ending, for some reason Mighty_Guard's merciful any% run was there. I asked exclitoL to re-submit his Merciful any% WR, hopefully we'll get it soon. In the meantime I will head to people's Twitch Highlights and re-submit all the runs I can find, the ones I remember anyway. If your run has disappeared because I forgot about you please re-submit it again. This includes any older runs that are slower, if you want them added to the board as Obsoleted runs for posterity.

While we're at it, this might be a good time to make a leaderboard for Dante% and Geis RTA if we want to make those into real misc categories.

Most things deal more damage on Hard.

I do plan to return to Faxanadu, I'm just carrying out the last of my momentum with the extremely lengthy and deep RPG, SMT Nocturne. I should fill in streams that have failed runs with Faxanadu practice and attempts. Tundra and Bogledowdee seem to have better early game than my WR run, I don't think it'll stand for much longer. I don't believe sub 26 will be so easy to achieve but 26:09 seems within reach.

day_nava told me he's working on a NG+ Hard TDE route that requires prepping a 100% compendium for half price (DLC for HD makes this a lot less tedious). It sounds like Matador, Sarasvati, and Surt are going to be the team that goes the whole way. Half price Matador is affordable instead of Shiranui, Specter 1 will get killed by double Andalucia. Surt will have the expected skills: Ice Repel, Focus, Hades Blast, Attack All, Fire Boost, Ragnarok. Trafuri is not needed, Surt can clear random encounters faster because Cerberus is the only demon in the game with fire repel. I wonder what the strat for Albion is going to be?

British Columbia, CanadaShinerCCC1 year ago

Surt is a strong candidate with Focus and Ragnarok for single-target fire magic for the Albion fight. That's the only other place to worry about repel fire, maybe Ice Breath or Focus on MC will get the job done. It will be funny to see Pierce work on the Diet Building's Surt boss fight :P

The extra press turn...you'll still have to get past Matador to unlock the Labyrinth and waste several minutes on a cutscene and a tunnel jump just to get the extra press turn, I don't think it would be worth it. Surt pass Surt sounds like a fine turn order to me. I'll need some time to think of good candidates to wield Debilitate and Tarukaja, probably Daisoujou so we can jump right into the Lucifer fight.

I'll admit we made the rules in a hurry and put in "NG+ is currently not allowed" because nobody wanted to talk about it at the time :P

I'm with PPJ in that high level demons are no good, they're too expensive. The ideal setup would be something like a high level Nozuchi that has Debilitate (enough MP to use it twice and will soon transform into a level 24 turtle with way more MP)

The problem with any NG+ category is that there is no standard initial condition and it would take forever to set up. I'm more interested in being better than 4th in Hard TDE right now than routing this perfect Goldilocks comp that is somehow both affordable, has absurdly good abilities and stats, and scales into lategame well. It would take sooooo long to do this theoretical setup playthrough that I could do so many actual speedruns in the same amount of time. Nocturne has minimal interest as it is, it seems, even in the wake of HD's release. (edit: HD players on Steam could pass around a save data file?)

It took me long enough to record good enough runs to justify creating the leaderboards for Merciful TDE and Hard any%, now my worries that the potentially interested will bounce off because they don't see a potential category they might be interested in, are relieved. NG+ being the thing that's actually requested has truly surprised me. Perhaps you know more than me and have the most insane NG+ route halfway planned out? Do a run or routing stream for us. Build it and they will come.

The name you enter for your character is echoed back in a few conversations. So entering a name more than 1 character long will affect the run. The time difference between JP and English will have to be measured via TAS, to make sure the breakpoints are advanced frame perfectly. Functionally the games behave exactly the same but I don't see a reason to merge the leaderboards. JP is about 1 minute faster, I think a run done on that version would have to have its time adjusted to match what that execution would have got in the English version.

I don't want the leaderboards merged, it's easier to understand that way.

got an even better run, put this on the leaderboard if it gets made.

This category doesn't exist yet, but I'd like to submit my run of it. There might be more runners once HD comes out in English.

Well, it finally happened.

Please don't feel bad if this is faster than your any% time >_>

Here's some ideas:

this game isn't exactly the most active, I'm the only person to run these categories that I know of, but maybe people want to compete outside of any%. Should I make these into categories? At least it will make these runs easily accessible.

Just stopping by to mention that Guides seems to be fixed for Faxanadu, and I added my Wing Boots extensions vods to the Video Tutorials :>

Got sub 60. Anyone else still feel like running this?

Slackanater came to my birthday stream and suggested I try this, so I did lol

1:16:19.66, forgot to put wsplit on screen could definitely be faster, the execution ebbs and flows lol Main strat was "Wing Boots scamming", farming Wing Boots until at max carrying capacity then selling in Forepaw or Conflate to pay for everything. Could have executed the basics in this better. Biggest stretch to improve would be Pendant and then going back to Mascon to buy the Large Shield. Farming after getting Pendant made my soul ache.

Given people's reactions, I think no one actually wants to run 100% except OP. We might get more interest if we create a "Best in slot" category instead. Just call it "Battle Helmet%" since getting the Battle Helmet means you can wield the Dragon Slayer at the end. That run would just be the same as any% but with 1500 more gold to afford a 4th King key.

thread: Faxanadu
British Columbia, CanadaShinerCCC4 years ago

Well here's another idea: max out inventory on Wing Boots on Joker key screen, then sell them all in Conflate for 2750 each. That doesn't save that much time from the big grind though, because you can only bring 3 (need room for 4 King keys and the Ace key). So 8250 gold, which comes just shy of paying for the Giant Blade. Don't forget about scrounging every gold coin along the way too.

Shields reduce the damage from enemy magic, if you're not attacking. Because it's a different sound effect for the hit, it seems ointment only prevents hits that make the "blugh" sound. Getting the cheaper Magic Shield early on would make grinding wyverns in Joker Spring a lot easier, and you can stock up on Red Potions outside too ;P

I suggested Elixir as part of 100% because you can only carry one and it shows up on your Player screen, which will probably need to be showed off before the end of the run to establish that Pendant is in there, and max rank of Lord has been achieved. Oh right, I never thought about rank...there aren't really any 100% speedruns of RPGs on SDA because that might imply they have to grind to max level. Should that be part of this run?

We could make this category even more silly, and require killing the Evil One with Glove, Ointment, Wing Boots, and Hourglass active all at the same time.

So I took a quick look at what you have to buy in various areas...

In Forepaw you need to buy a Long Sword for 1600, Small Shield for 1100, and Studded Mail for 2500. In Mascon you need to buy Large Shield for 3500 and Thunder for 1200. On the way to Victim, you can buy Death for 9800 in the secret shop, which is way cheaper than the 12500 before Apolune. In Victim you need to buy Full Plate for 5200. You need to go completely out of your way to buy Fire for...2000 Golds, I think? In Conflate you need to buy the Giant Blade for 8500, and the Magic Shield for 9800. Magic Shield is cheaper at 7600 in the secret shop before Apolune, but grinding before Forepaw for that sounds awfully slow. In Daybreak you need to buy Tilte for 15000. Giant Blade can also be had here for 11500, in case of death warp related reasons. Red Potions sell here for 1200; a 3king route might want to be considered, so we can bring a pile of Red Potions bought basically for free to sell for 600 a pop here.

This is 60,200 golds total, and that's not even counting having to buy another Elixir at the Mascon secret shop for 4300 in case we decide finishing with Elixir is necessary for 100%. Requiring this much money probably means death warping is not an option.

I would recommend doing all the farming in Joker Spring with a Long Sword, without ointment. 720 golds a pop means you'll have to kill 84 wyverns in a single trip, unless you want to get another Jack key so you can get another Joker key. Have fun with this awesome category you came up with that people will want to watch!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look, if someone does a run, then there's a run. I've never had any interest in 100% myself, but I did a pendant% run once. vod is here btw

If someone does a 100% run then I'll probably do one just to crush their time.

Historically, 100% on SDA meant "getting every item, as can be proven by opening a menu and showing everything off." Consider how there's that chalkboard in Paper Mario by Mario's house that displays collection rates, or showing off cluttered-full menus in Zelda games like Majora's Mask. Therefore I think 100% in Faxanadu should require getting every weapon, armour, and magic, as well as the Pendant and Magical Rod. Consumables such as Wing Boots or Hourglass can't be acquired permanently so they aren't included. The game won't let you buy multiples of the same weapon/armour/magic you already have.

This would require a huge amount of gold and would basically involve grinding at Joker Spring, probably the fastest way to get money, until you have enough money to chug through the rest of the game "normally" while buying everything along the way. This just sounds like a stupid version of pendant% with boring grinding to me, but like I said, if you want to see it, go ahead and complete the first run.

Just here to echo what Pres said. The "hidden item counter" increments whenever you visit any screen with a hidden item, so the value is only ever 0, 1, 2 or 3. When it equals 3, the item will appear, and on the next visit, the counter wraps around to 0.

Hidden items confused me at first too, but once I realized it worked that way it was pretty easy. I should probably compile a list of where all those screens are, you might be surprised which screens have items you didn't even know about, such as the first screen of the Mist section containing hidden Wing Boots!
