Not sure if this is already done in IL runs, but if you have boost available before the end of a lap, don't switch to white. Instead, boost alongside the pad, carrying the speed past the jumppads and onto the track. Can save between half a second and a second (on average, white boostpad to finish line was 4.75s, but boosting when black was 4.00s). If you do it on lap 1 or 2, there's then a black boostpad at the start of the next lap, but you'll want to switch soon after.

18 month relevant necropost

As I'm not speedrunning anymore, I'm looking to get into TASing instead, and I thought of this as my first game. When testing the Storm Creek skip, I tried going to the right, around the rock so I could land facing the right way, but I found I had to land right on the corner otherwise the lap wouldn't count. So that confirms needing to go back a bit (you can also crash and the lap will count, but if you don't crash, it doesn't). There must be some complex flagging system going on. Also if you cross the line in first but the lap doesn't count, it instantly sets you to 8th.

I did more testing on other circuits. One thing was Scorpio Circuit. On the second skip, I found a smooth drifting boost in the air that landed just before the grid positions, and the lap didn't count. Again, I tried doing the same thing but landing a bit further back and it counted. But I also did the smooth closer turn, crashed, and the lap counted. Strange stuff.

So, yeah, the point of all that was you need to go back a bit or crash or be far back enough to avoid some kind of trigger. I think the same thing can happen with the Breeze City skip.

EDIT: After more testing, I found that landing facing right way is fine if you reverse for a split second. So it must have something to do with the REVERSE! warning. Maybe, because you're going the wrong way around when you go on the jumppad, the game thinks, when you cross the line, that you went backwards over it, so it doesn't count the lap. But if you then reverse/go the wrong way on the spot you land on, and then go the right way, the game thinks you've gone round the track as normal.

EDIT2: If you land facing the wrong way, you do need to be the wrong way for a bit, but the game tracks you before you land, so it's not as big a time limit as facing forwards.

I managed to get a 15'16 lap on Storm Creek with a boost, without preventing forward momentum, and with landing just before the finish line and reversing for whatever the set amount of time is. With TAS optimisation this could easily be a sub 14.

Wow, I didn't think other versions would have anything cut from them. Go ahead and change the rules and board layout to what they should be :)

I'll also give you supermod, since things will be easier that way.

Yeah, definitely. I've been hoping for someone else to start running the game because I've stopped speedrunning, and it's better for someone actively running it to moderate it. :)

Yeah, I like that idea, it gives Bash 'N' Dash and Mayhem something that isn't just 80 Spoils of War/5 Gold Spoils of War. Speaking of that, it sucks that you can only get 5 out of 6 gold parts in one run so you can't get 100%, but I still can't even get the fifth one. Do you know anything about that?

I've tried to find strats in the last three worlds but the only new things I could come up with are:

  • a couple of bouncing strats in 3-3 to add onto the level skip that save 2 or 3 seconds altogether

  • a little strat in a World 4 level that potentially saves a couple of seconds

  • and an alternative 5-5 route that probably loses more time in the detour than it saves This strat could be better if we could either get Nyls past the blue checkpoint for the second block, or if we could get Lyft up to the third block straight from the start, bring it down, and then get Nyls to the second block. Or if we could even get Ywok up to either block.Just some theories.

EDIT:

  • Got a little bounce strat in 5-7 that could save a few seconds (it's spliced because I forgot how to do wall-bounce-climb tech for a bit)

  • Also, bigger time save in 2-7. Using a triple jump (jump, then double jump just before you touch the ground to be given two extra jumps, there's probably a couple of frames in it) and the little boost from Lyft's sticking ability, you can just about skip the three-orb section at the end. Saves ~25 seconds.

Yeah, this whole Mega Man leaderboards thing is still unsolved (people were suggesting an API function last time I checked) but it's best to go over to megamanleaderboards.

It's essentially saving and quitting/console reset, isn't it? Generally, that's allowed as long as you keep the timer running.

Done. It's a subcategory under True Ending. Also decided to put Easy and Normal as subcategories for Any% just as a small clean-up. I might do that for Any% NG+ as well if anyone does NG+ Normal.

Never played L.A. Heist but it looks like it's mission-based like this one, and pretty fun too.

Yeah, that would be a good long category. I'll add it if/when there's a run of it :) EDIT: Decided to see if you'd already done a run and you have, so it's added.

The problem with a level like Obstacle Course is that it counts down, meaning it would have to be timer ascending. The option for that is only on categories, so all the other levels would have the wrong timing. The whole level board would have to be restructured, or it would have to be real-time, which would be awkward for Wii Fit. For now, it's easier to use cyberscore for levels like that, but I will try to get around to restructuring the level leaderboard soon.

Wow, good spot. That's interesting PAL doesn't have trademarks (just checked my case, disc, and manual and they're not on there) but NTSC does. I was quite dumb to put faster times down as just emulation loading times and not NTSC vs PAL.

Side note: what version of ePSXe are you using and what graphics plug-in? Never been able to see the loading screen on emulator

This is great stuff! I had also made a route but I wasn't too sure about it since I didn't have a set list for engines, wheels, and drives; only for armour and weaponry. I also have a different tourney route, so we can compare stuff.

  • Go to Professional Mode and press enter on RW Championship
  • Before starting the Championship, Adjust My First Bot to sell axe, eyes, and wood, go to the Scrapyard and add a Lifting Arm (324), and Salvaged Steel (468) (Scrapyard items reset every time you re-enter it, so you can come back out and go back in until they're there; loses 2 seconds with good menuing on PC).
  • This should leave 1830~ credits left, but you want 1000 spare so you get enough from Robot Wars Championship to enter Alpha Viking Open Trophy.
  • 830~ to spend on performance: 12V Battery (200 more than old battery), 12V Dosch drives (an extra 80 for each wheel) [these two upgrades won the World Championship in a test run, including a battle against Chaos 2]
  • Win Robot Wars Championship - 3000 credits
  • Alpha Viking Open Trophy x1 – Try to chuck them overboard at the helipad - 6000 credits (Japan only needs 5000)
  • Rooftop Chase x2 – Drive over the glass and fend off the House Robots that come after you while the other bots fight each other; ‘help’ them fall down if they’re there after you’ve fought off the House bots - 12000 credits (Germany only needs 8000, but in the long run this is better)
  • Iron Fist x1 - Simple, just drive everyone into the water - 17000 credits (Sao Paulo only needs 10000, but in the long run this should be better)
  • Scrapyard Challenge Cup x1 – Try to use the crusher if a robot is not easily flippable; it’s not fantastic, but it helps - 25000 credits
  • Enter and win World Championship

To explain some of the tournament decisions, Rooftop Chase earns the same amount of credits Alpha Viking Open Trophy does in half the number of rounds - while they are Capture the Flag rounds with 4 opponents each, they should end quicker than 4 separate rounds of eliminating one robot, especially since Rooftop out-of-arena eliminations are very fast compared to Oil Rig.

And then Iron Fist has only 5 rounds of eliminating one robot with a quick out-of-arena strat, compared to Scrapyard Challenge Cup which has 2 rounds of eliminating one robot with no quick out-of-arena strat, and then a 6-way annihilator on top of that.

If you want to join the Discord so we can discuss a route, that'd be great :) : https://discord.gg/3dRKr3u

I'm not sure what exact emulator 2w used in his run, but whatever it was, the loading time for the first level was 9 seconds faster than on PS2 SDS. (2w had the cutscene start at 37s, I had it start on 46s). If this time difference is the same for every level, then he would've gained more than 2 minutes on my time on just the intro loading screen alone (the outro loading screen might also be faster on emulator). As this isn't really a serious/competitive game right now, I'm not too bothered about faster-emulated runs being on the leaderboards, but I thought I'd give note about it for future reference and to open up a discussion about it.

Just to clarify, PS3 emulating PS1 and PS2 games is like Wii/Wii U VC. It's official emulation, so it shouldn't be treated as 'emulator', but as its own platform. Also, first-gen PS3s have backwards compatibility iirc, so it's not emulating if you use a disc.
