Heads up to all who use Youtube for your run archives:
RUNS AT RISK
Per Google's recent update, unlisted YouTube videos from before January 1st, 2017 will be made private on July 23rd, 2021 unless a user opts out.
This essentially means that any speedrun submitted to Speedrun.com before 2017 as an unlisted video will become permanently unwatchable unless a user:
Opts out of the change, Changes the share setting to public, or Re-uploads the video as an unlisted video and updates the url link on Speedrun.com The below runs (see the banner at the top of SRcom for this list) have been flagged as YouTube videos uploaded to Speedrun.com before January 1st, 2017. https://www.speedrun.com/runsatrisk
Please note that this may include both listed and unlisted videos, and includes both whether you were the player or the submitter. For any run at risk, we recommend either opting out of the change, changing the share setting to public, or re-uploading the video (if it is your own) as an unlisted video and updating the link on Speedrun.com
The above is a permanent link to the sr.com/OTS community Discord.
Come join the rest of the community and one of the games developers and stay up to date with active announcements, tips and hints, discussions of new tech as it's discovered and much more!

Hello and welcome to the Out There Somewhere speedrun section.
If you feel that we are lacking a category that would be not only fun, but challenging as well, and you can develop a reasonable ruleset for it we would love for you to submit a video of a pilot run.
You can post links to your submission here, but do also make a new topic linked in your video submission post for archive purposes.
Your new topic will be to get feedback from the community whether there is shared interest in your concept.
Please only post links to your initial pilot run videos and link to your feedback thread here.
A few days ago I finally got around to asking Amora and Saint of Studio Miniboss if I could still purchase the Desura version of OTS.
Unfortunately the Desura version is only available in a demo which ends long before the end of the game...
Here's the conversation: https://twitter.com/amora_b/status/700352135641350145
At first I was sad because I didn't think I would be able to experience it but once again Studio Miniboss has given me hope and enjoyment.
A little later I received an email:
Attached were some truly amazing things. Not only was the Desura Release included, which is called 'Out There Somewhere - Voskhod Edition'- the version the game art in the sidebar is from, but the first original soundtrack, an old fashioned game guide insert which covers content that was planned but was cut from the final release and the first prototype of the game which is so much different from even the Voskhod Edition!
If anyone is interested I would love to do a stream to showcase all of this for you guys!

While streaming I decided to challenge myself to try and beat the game without using any unnecessary teleport shots.
My best total is 99 teleport shots needed to complete the game.
I challenge anyone to do better! :D
Note: I didn't count my total "teleshots fired" for this challenge. I counted the total teleshots I used that were needed in order to complete any given room. It's basically a segmented sum of best challenge for what you know is possible.
I recently remembered looking for speedrun videos after I first beat the game blind in 45 minutes.
This community is actually the second speedrunning group of OTS. But they ran an earlier version where Yuri is clearly much more of a badass space trooper. I'd love to see them join up with us. :D
Some rooms are much more difficult, most are very similar at least in execution of expected pathing.
I'd love to see more of this version of the game. Yuri is rambo firing that gun.
Guidelines for submitting runs are currently being worked on and translated in to multiple languages to help avoid confusion and set in stone the fundamentals of running OTS:
They can be viewed here: https://goo.gl/IB6GIp
Due to the changes in rules for running Any% the leaderboard has been wiped.
IGT runs were unaffected and the leaderboard remains unchanged- there are updated rules to define what an IGT run is.
Please familiarize yourselves with the updated rules and start submitting runs again!
Today while practicing the 'Outpost Cache -> Junkyard Exit' jump and immediate upon transition teleshot strat- I discovered something interesting about jumping.
From the video you can see that it is pretty forgiving, you have what appears to be 5-10 frames to hit the jump button when you first enter your falling state.
I've known of this for a little while but never got any video of it.
What I believe is essentially happening is a near frameperfect (under 10 frames) approach on a blocks first pixel on either side which the block being landed on considers you to be perfectly level with it and not falling on to it.
These breakable blocks can be walked upon freely but if you land on them from a falling state they will crumble.
Here's another example of an odd property of the crumbling blocks if you land on the corner or just below the corner on the left/right side of a crumbling block it will crumble allowing you to land on the block below it without breaking the block you landed on.
