So when is that community vote happening to get a consensus decision?
PrettzL: My post should still speak for itself, but I'll give a personal response (nothing guidance/rules related here.): If it was a board I moderated, I wouldn't really care much about an additional category listed behind the featured categories if people wanted it so long as it was well defined and didn't bloat the category list too much. Consensus is also good.
In case that was difficult to read, even kirkq said they wouldn't add a small amount of submitted runs in their own category to the main listings because it would obviously cause the board to become bloated.

It's interesting that you glossed over Kirkq's whole point about fairness and their expectation to involve the community in the decision making process:
xJackieBx/Zecora_MLP_1: Please just link a thread next time. I'm not reading through all of it, but my generic opinion is that if something related to an online game is one time attainable, it should be considered (not saying required) to split off into a separate category or subcategory to promote fair competition for newcomers. Some games release tons of one time attainable items, so maintaining a list of one time obtainable items might be tedious in some cases. If a board has a substantial amount of runners, consensus is generally the most correct answer. Have a vote or something.[/quote]

What I took from that post was: Just because something could be distinguished with its own category does not mean that it necessarily should be distinguished at all, you guys need to come to an agreement on this one point, having a vote would allow everyone involved to share their opinion and decide the outcome without any more discussion.

For reference, there has been no vote. The decision continues to be handed down from one mod of the board. We are being ignored and the excuse is that "It's gotten annoying", well that's exactly how the community feels, slightly annoyed that we're being ignored entirely.

Kirkq can speak for their self on this.

If the argument sounds tired it's because it's not being addressed, so the tone of it wont change. It should be a pretty apparent sign of mishandling if the argument from the community sounds like a broken record.

Ozotuh: If you don't want to be involved in the resolution you should let your involvement in the topic "die". Doesn't that seem like such a reasonable stance to take on this?

This issue needs to be addressed and not ignored or glossed over by making a category that only 2 people will be running.

By continuing to deny that there is a problem ongoing is to continue to be unsupportive of the community.

Referencing the very first post in this thread:
Please keep in mind that using this thread is somewhat a last resort, in case the current moderators are not responding or refusing your help without justification. You should always start by asking the Super mods of a game/series as they are also able to add mods. Twitch messages to mods are probably best for now. Also try the game forums, many users get notifications when threads are created for games they follow.
Is it not apparent that ongoing the conversation has been Zecora saying "Shut up about it"? We're being threatened in to not even talking about the issue anymore- and Zeroca has flat out said: http://puu.sh/q7YMj/4fa194b0c7.png

This is not a productive dialogue, and continues to refuse to help the community resolve an ongoing issue that is a waste of leader board space and a couple of members of the communities potential.

I Was interested in running Destiny, but it seems that the general tone from one moderator is that it's more reasonable for me and other new runners and existing ones as well to stop trying to cultivate a healthy competitive environment by simply keeping quiet about unfair advantages being matched up against the baseline. So long as the community is lead by senseless dictators who say that we should just "accept it as it is". http://www.speedrun.com/Destiny/thread/po8w2

It's not acceptable, which is why the community is reaching out to powers beyond their sway. This will only continue to push away new people from the community. That seems to be what a minority of the leadership of speedrun.com/Destiny wants- If that's what speedrun.com wants for their communities then I guess the issue is resolved now.

That's an interesting perspective on the truth of the matter. As I understand it one moderator has voiced support for even distinguishing the SRL gear runs with leaderboard placement while 6+ members of the community would rather they be excluded from the general pool of runs for having a timelocked advantage.

Is that not what is going on here? Are we not going to take that seriously? Do you think I'm in this for laughs or something? We can talk this out, amicably, so long as we all remain reasonable.

I'm keenly interested in running this game, but the attitude that a distinct advantage that may not be available again gives to a couple of people who run the game should be matched up against those who cannot is ridiculous.

Annoying for who? Those who have an understanding of competitive leader boards or just you?

This is a community issue, but thanks for telling me to shut up about it.

It should be pretty apparent by now how annoying it is on both sides of the issue here, resolving it would be very not annoying.

If it's available to everyone ongoing it doesn't hurt anyone, that's for sure. Being a "top player" in a category with no competition is pretty pointless though and hurts the runners themselves.

thread: Destiny
PrettzL8 years ago

2 people do not merit the need for a new category.

If there were more than 4 people exclusively running SRL gear you would be obligated to make a new category for competitions sake, but as it stands they're running against themselves.

What's the point of letting 2 players have "World Records" when no one else is trying/or capable of competing?

You may as well make categories for every individual unique submission that falls outside of the rules for the main category as their own leaderboard.

Could my name be changed to "PrettzL", thank you for your time.

If two players have the same IGT time for WR they do not both have 1st place on the leaderboard though it shows up properly everywhere else that they both have 1st.

There should also be ties for 28th, 26th, 22nd, 20th, 16th, and 14th places as well: http://www.speedrun.com/ots#Any_IGT

How many active runners use/have the SRL gear?

When will the SRL gear be available to players starting the game today and onward?

Hello and welcome to the Out There Somewhere speedrun section.

If you feel that we are lacking a category that would be not only fun, but challenging as well, and you can develop a reasonable ruleset for it we would love for you to submit a video of a pilot run.

You can post links to your submission here, but do also make a new topic linked in your video submission post for archive purposes.

Your new topic will be to get feedback from the community whether there is shared interest in your concept.

Please only post links to your initial pilot run videos and link to your feedback thread here.

Thank you.

Regarding "pilot" runs that is an excellent and creative idea, I will be making a new sticky regarding this for ongoing new category discussions.

What a great friend you are- coming to his defense. I'm sure that Zecora appreciates your help here. You're really driving this conversation in a necessary direction.

Listen Zecora_MLP_1, you're being unreasonable.

If you choose to promote an advantage for the sake of having an advantage in "optimization", something that new runners are incapable of competing with -ever- you are making a choice that will not help this community grow. There's a clear and distinct separation between the SRL gear and gear that's available through farming all the time.

How is this an opinion? This is fact.

I don't run the game but I would like to at some point- Hopefully when I'm running it in the future categories which should be labeled as "Advantage%" aren't the "main category" for the game- and as a founder of a sr.com board myself I'm blown away that there's more than 1 supermod here, it's completely unnecessary. That aside, refusing to listen to the active community about obvious separation from a competitive run and a gear advantage should be a sign that you are not qualified to make decisions on what categories should and shouldn't be in the game. This is from someone with a basic understanding of the game.

Think about your stance here Zecora, you can support the community or you can step down. Those are the options you're looking forward to. I have been given these options in my own small community as well. I'm still nurturing the board I founded.

If you can say something is unfair but "that just sucks" you're holding your community back with an opinion. Be reasonable. You want your main categories to be accessible so that new runners show up and maintain interest. What's the point in a board being around if it's nothing but an epitaph?

 1. We've been discussing this on Discord in the modgroup- as far as I can tell we've nailed down the vernacular to prevent major abuses and arguments that people could use to weasel major abuses in to their runs or force us to accept their run if it contains even a more subtle abuse.

 2. From what I've been made aware of as to what can be changed some things could easily go unnoticed if they were changed, such as the firing times between teleshots and gauss shots. This could be reduced or eliminated entirely, though it would be fairly apparent if not utilized subtly and this change would be a major advantage in some rooms. I'd rather not list all of the subtle examples, but I am looking for them and I'm fairly aware of what subtle changes can be done to the game files now. We will be keeping a close eye for this type of abuse in the future.

 3. If anyone can think of reasonable game modifications that do no more than setting a standard baseline for everyone to compete on I am welcome to discuss them, but as it stands currently any modifications to the game files that are outside of the developers original intentions disqualify a run.

This is a very serious topic that I am hopeful to hear from the rest of the community on, this isn't something that the mod team should have have the final say in. We need input from those who want their runs to be approved without being heavily scrutinized because of one thing or another.

We're here to help.
